2018 is a special year for the holiday. This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of Scarlet Sails. The first Leningrad prom took place in 1968. Later, since 1979, there was a break of 26 years, and only in 2005 the tradition of honoring graduates with a large-scale show was resumed. In 2016, the holiday was recognized as the best event in Europe, it was included in the register of world event tourism

and is recommended for visiting in 20 European countries. In 2017, his fame attracted more than two million people to the embankments of St. Petersburg!

“Scarlet Sails” is undoubtedly a beautiful and spectacular phenomenon, and perhaps, having looked at it ten years ago, right now you will experience a strong desire to update your impressions. TV is not the best assistant in this matter. With your own eyes, it’s somehow more interesting. But if your age no longer allows one to suspect that you are an average graduate, then you most likely will not want to juggle your elbows in a crowd of spectacle-hungry people. You’re also unlikely to climb onto the roof of a jet ski, although they offer that too. the site decided to figure out whether it is possible to look at this annual phenomenon with comfort if you have already achieved something in life and can afford something more expensive than fake invitations to Dvortsovaya. The ideal and probably the simplest option for those who want to look at the “Scarlet Sails” in comfort from the window of some cozy room would be to rent overlooking the Neva. The St. Petersburg Hotel, located on Pirogovskaya Embankment, could be perfect for this. But the option is so obvious that there are no empty rooms left in the hotel for a long time. It was necessary to reserve rooms at least a month or two in advance. But there is still the opportunity to book a table in the panoramic restaurant “Bering”, located in this hotel. The restaurant says that this can be done without prepayment, however, if the company is not very large. But a perfect view from a restaurant window at a show is not guaranteed.

Since things didn’t work out with the hotel, we decided to move to Palace Embankment, there are plenty of buildings there, and we’ll probably be able to negotiate with someone to admire the fireworks and a boat with bright sails passing along the Neva for a reasonable (or not so) fee.

Perhaps the first thing that the gaze of even a person who knows almost nothing about St. Petersburg (for example, who has just arrived in the city to admire the White Nights and “Scarlet Sails”) could be caught on is, of course, the Hermitage. From there, looking at “Scarlet Sails” is the sweetest thing. But, unfortunately, it closes at 18:00 - that's it. It is not possible to organize an evening visit or a night excursion. At least that's what we were told over the phone. Perhaps someone you know has other people who know someone who has different information. We don’t want to hint at anything, but we have to admit: the night watchmen (or what are they called? caretakers?) in the Hermitage can boast of the most magnificent view of the “Scarlet Sails”.

The next quite pleasant place to view could be the restaurant in the Palace of Grand Duke Vladimir, on Palace Embankment, 26. But it is already fully booked for the duration of “Scarlet Sails”. On the phone they say: there are no places at any price.

The House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences is also located at the same address, but its premises also cannot be rented in order to quietly observe what is happening in the Neva waters. Again, we are not hinting at anything, but becoming a scientist for one night would be just what we need.

Vash Address LLC is trying to sell the premises of the neighboring building for offices, but for some reason they are also not ready to rent out the empty rooms there for just one night.

The Taiga art space is located at 20 Dvortsovaya Embankment. Many creative shops, workshops, and even the studio of a radio station found refuge there. Surely one of them would not mind renting out a room that is not used at night. It turns out that this is also impossible: during the Scarlet Sails, all premises - according to a separate clause in the contract - are occupied by the owners of the building. Talk to them, they say.

The premises of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts and the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, located in houses No. 18 and No. 8 on Palace Embankment, are also not rented out even to very wealthy people. Maybe it's for the better.

In an attempt to find a suitable apartment in residential buildings on Palace Embankment, we contacted several agencies involved in daily rental apartments There they threw up their hands and answered: “Nothing about “Scarlet Sails”.” If we had gotten around to it a little earlier, the choice of apartments with windows overlooking the Neva would have been quite wide.

The building at the very beginning of the embankment is occupied by the St. Petersburg Institute of Culture and Arts. the site also asked its representatives a question about the possibility of renting premises. It turned out that everything is possible, but only purely theoretically. The process of coordinating a lease usually takes about six months, that is, it was worth worrying about this issue around December.

You could sit down somewhere Peter and Paul Fortress, for example, in “Koryushka” - there is both a view and comfort, but on June 20 the restaurant is not open, as the administrator politely informs over the phone “due to safety precautions”. But you can try to take a seat in “Eurasia” on the Makarov embankment, however, table reservations are not available during “Scarlet Sails”. But the place itself is open, and if you can somehow manage to cope with the others who want to watch the show, you can get a seat.

Not much less pretentious than the Hermitage and Peter and Paul Fortress, the Exchange building on the V.O. Spit is also not an easy option. Technically, the Exchange is empty now, and there should be only guards there. But, of course, you can at least ask.

Since it is not so easy to calmly watch the reddening sails and fireworks from land, it seems that the last option remains - to watch from the water. This is also not an easy task: during the graduates’ holiday, the Neva water area is closed. But companies specializing in water transport rental claim that the show will be seen from Smolnaya Embankment, where the ship can approach. To do this, you can pay for a two-hour boat trip, which will cost 2.5 thousand rubles per person. True, the ship will have to be shared with others who want to see what is happening and hope that they will not be the same cheerful graduates.

Those who find this option not wonderful enough will still be able to rent an entire ship at a price of 7 thousand rubles per hour (although they will give it for at least 4 hours) or even a yacht for thirty thousand per hour (with the same minimum period rent). True, employees of companies renting out yachts and boats hint in every possible way that someone else can take the transport at any moment and you need to hurry. Either the boats are really running out, or experienced sales specialists are trying to persuade the client to make a decision as quickly as possible.

But for those who suffer from excess money and don’t like water, there is another bad news: you won’t be able to watch the “Scarlet Sails” from a bird’s eye view, sitting comfortably in a helicopter cockpit. The reason for this will be the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, which coincides with the alumni holiday, during which the airspace over the city is closed.

It turns out that those who remembered the existence of the holiday only now, regardless of financial capabilities, do not have many options. In any case, you will either have to jostle on the embankment, or fight for a place in one of the few restaurants still available for booking, or watch what is happening from the water. Or maybe it’s better to wait until next year and then, in December, start negotiating the rental of premises on Palace Embankment.

Scarlet Sails is an annual celebration of graduates in St. Petersburg. A big fireworks display, a concert on Palace Square and, of course, a ship with sails of the coveted color. Yesterday's schoolchildren mixed with students, tourists, families with children and grandmothers go to the city center to see the bright spectacle. They say that in 2016, almost 2 million people watched the fireworks. Sharing photos!

If you ask a St. Petersburg resident where it is best to watch the fireworks and the ship, he will answer - at home on TV. But many still want it. Last year (2015) I wanted it too. Then we were not very lucky - we arrived late and found ourselves in the very crowd, at the Trinity Bridge at the exit from the Champ de Mars. A real crush. It is dangerous to go there with children. It was scary. People pressed each other, put girls on their shoulders. It was impossible to squeeze through somewhere. Someone felt bad.

The fireworks were almost invisible - the volleys took place over the Neva in the area between Dvortsov, Troitsky and the spit of Vasilyevsky Island. Best view, of course, from the arrow - but we didn’t even try to get there. In addition, after some time, smoke from previous charges begins to interfere with the fireworks. All that remains is light, barely noticeable splashes above misty acrid puffs.

But immediately after the fireworks, the crowd began to disperse, and we walked almost freely to the very edge of the embankment - and at that moment the main festive ship was heading back, sounding its ceremonial horns. He walked right in front of me. It was extraordinary.

“I saw a boat with a sharp sail made of white silk. This toy said something to me, but I didn’t know what; then I wondered if a red sail would say more, or, better yet, a scarlet color, because there is a brightness in scarlet.” rejoicing. Rejoicing means knowing why you rejoice. And so, unfolding from this, taking the waves and the ship with scarlet sails, I saw the purpose of his existence" (A. Green).

This year we went to Scarlet Sails again - we were walking with friends, and suddenly we thought, why not? Although after last year it was scary to go. We decided to try another place.

The fireworks start at approximately 0:30 - this is the darkest time of day in June. We got to Gorkovskaya - the metro is open all night that day - and went to Petrovskaya Embankment, to pick up the Flying Dutchman. Strategically advantageous places, of course, were occupied: along the fences, some hills, on which women sat with salads, sandwiches and children (apparently, they occupied them in several hours). Even the lions at the descent to the water were surrounded by people. They climbed onto cars, buses, minibuses. But in general, there was no crush like there was at the Trinity Bridge that year. The crowd as a whole was not drunk or dangerously active. We found a quiet section of the road and sufficient visibility.

After the fireworks, just like last time, the crowd immediately began to thin out, and we went down the steps to the water. Knowing what we are waiting for. Of course, him. Festive scarlet sail.

I advise you to choose your location wisely, avoiding the busiest streets and embankments. Despite all the obstacles and inconveniences, the holiday is impressive. The first time I saw a ship with scarlet sails, I couldn’t hold back my tears. It takes my breath away. These are the meanings that you carry inside - and suddenly you see them on the water, hear them with beeps, feel them with the warm night wind.

There was a minibus standing next to us. The driver let some people onto the roof. They heard an elderly woman get down from there and say to her companion:

- Innochka, everything is completely different there!

night 25/26 June 2016

The main area where you can watch the passage of a sailboat and fireworks. Many do not recommend this place, preferring the second location on our list.

Spit of Vasilyevsky Island and Birzhevoy Bridge

A good view of the main part of the show; there will be a video broadcast from the screen on Strelka.

Trinity Bridge

It is from this bridge that the festive brig appears. There is not enough space on the bridge - move to the park area nearby.

Peter-Pavel's Fortress

Another popular area for everyone to enjoy the show. The place will be additionally equipped with dozens of floating pontoons so that you can watch the show directly from the water.

Many companies and private roofers annually offer options for watching the show from their rooftops. However, we will not write their contact details here, and we also ask you to be especially careful about these offers and their safety.

Another option is to watch the holiday from a boat or boat. This service will cost you from 4,000 rubles.

Terraces

If you don’t want to crowd among people at all, then you can choose panoramic points of restaurants and hotels. However, keep in mind that it is better to book places in such places now (or even yesterday).

List:

One of the most popular places- restaurant of the St. Petersburg hotel. The place has an excellent panoramic view, and the chef of the establishment is preparing a special menu for the holiday.

Address: Pirogovskaya embankment, 5/2

The Volga-Volga restaurant has the advantage of being located on a boat. Option to watch the show directly from the water. The restaurant usually prepares a special program and menu for guests on the day of “Scarlet Sails”.

"Scarlet Sails" - business card St. Petersburg. Every year, a fabulous show takes place for school graduates, when Dvortsovaya, Trinity Bridge, Palace Bridge, the shore of the Peter and Paul Fortress are decorated with thousands of colorful lamps, torches are lit on Rostral columns, the sounds of your favorite melodies flow over the Neva. And a fabulous brig with scarlet sails appears. Tears well up in your eyes, something turns upside down in your soul, and you remember your unfulfilled childhood dreams... The amazing sight leaves no one indifferent.

In 2016, the stage on Palace Square was a huge luminous bridge, symbolizing the transition from past to future, from childhood to adulthood.
Famous artists and musicians congratulated the graduates. The host of the show is Ivan Urgant.

On the day of the holiday, it is almost impossible to get to the embankment and look at the brig with Scarlet Sails.

Guests of St. Petersburg often ask the question: “Where is the best place to watch Scarlet Sails?” If you are staying at a hotel, you can talk to the administration about purchasing an invitation ticket to the Scarlet Sails holiday. You can buy it from hand or on the Internet, but here you need to beware of numerous fakes. It is advisable to arrive early with an invitation card and take a closer seat.

There is a free option for those who do not like large crowds and do not want to take up space for several hours. The day before the performance there is a rehearsal, and you can watch the final run of the sailboat twice, usually at 22-30 and 23-30.

Go to the cafes located on pontoons near the shore and get a wonderful overview of everything that is happening!

If on the day of the Scarlet Sails holiday you walk along Nevsky Prospekt in the hope of seeing a show on the embankment, then the following picture awaits you near the Moika:

You can, of course, listen to the concert standing not far from Palace Square, but the view is depressing...

Having walked along the entire Moika, thousands of people gather on the Champ de Mars to watch the tops of the masts moving between the buildings for 5 seconds.
