So, after a three-day adventure in Malaysia, on March 15, 2012 we went to Thailand, to the province of Krabi. The ticket for the low-cost Air Asia plane was purchased within three weeks, so the flight cost us about $200 for three of us.

I note that there are only two international flights to Krabi - just from Malaysia and from Singapore, and several more domestic ones - from Bangkok and to Koh Samui.

From Krabi airport to the coastal town of Ao Nang - 40 kilometers. There are several ways to get there. The easiest one is a taxi. Costs 500-600 baht, depending on the season. We traveled by bus for 150 baht per person, a child does not count. However, be prepared that the bus will not have air conditioning and you will have to spend 40-50 minutes in a rather stuffy space.

We booked in Ao Nang in advance via the Internet. cheap hotel Adam Bungalow. I wanted to save money, so I bought a bungalow with a fan for 600 baht. It turned out to be a plywood house with walls a centimeter wide, which did not even have a wardrobe.

It is very stuffy, not only during the day, but also at night. The three of us barely fit on the small bed. In the end, I never managed to fall asleep. I spent half the night on the veranda near the house, escaping the heat and serving as food for mosquitoes.

Early in the morning Sasha rented a bike and we went to look for a house. I had absolutely no strength, but I didn’t want to spend another night in this bungalow (we booked and paid for 2 nights).

First of all, we started looking at houses that we found in advance on the Internet. I printed out a blogger's post. But our viewing impressions did not coincide with the author’s stories. For example, the article enthusiastically describes the houses at Banburee resort: “A chic option. Modern and cozy...perhaps this is one of best options"In fact, for 400 dollars they offer you a tiny room, in which, apart from a bed and a closet, there is no more space for anything. The house also has a “kitchen” without a stove or utensils, and a tiny hotel refrigerator. The house is clearly not worth this money.

We also looked at the Oscar House and did not find the luxurious wooden floors and wood-covered walls described there. The complex is located on the outskirts. Horses graze in the yard, leaving unpleasant piles of manure. But the house is still beautiful and we really liked it.

We spoke with the owner on the phone, and his sister, who speaks little English, showed the house. She opened two halves of the house to us at once - three rooms and a large kitchen. Sasha clarified with the owner over the phone that all three rooms cost 15 thousand per month ($500)? He said: yes. We agreed to move in without hesitation.

We immediately went to the bungalow, packed our things and returned. An hour later, when all the clothes were already hanging in the closet in the new house, and Arinka was getting ready to sleep, the owner came to us. It was then that the “unfortunate mistake” turned out that only half of the house cost 15 thousand - either one room with a kitchen, or 2 rooms without a kitchen. This option did not suit us at all. Without a kitchen it’s bad, but one room for 500 dollars is somehow too much. But the Thai was not at all embarrassed by our annoyance. He wasn’t particularly worried about sleepy Arina, who urgently needed to be transported somewhere again (but where?). And we decided to move to the house that we looked at in the morning.

Two floors, on the first there is a large studio with a kitchen, and on the second floor (stairs on the street) there is a small bedroom with a balcony and another bathroom. Costs 12 thousand per month, including electricity and water. Located 3 minutes walk from main street and a 7/11 store. Five minutes by bike to the sea.

When we had already moved in, the landlady said that if we didn’t really need the bedroom upstairs (and we didn’t need it, because Arina wouldn’t be able to sleep there alone, we simply wouldn’t hear her), then we could rent only the lower studio for only 7 thousand baht per month ($230), all inclusive.

Here we spent a month and a half of our life in Thailand, and then inherited the house to our friend Tanya, who came from Moscow for a month to soak in the Andaman Sea.

Then Sasha went to look for a big house for our next visits and we made some price conclusions for ourselves. The further from the sea, the cheaper. Within 7-10 minutes by bike, houses cost 8-10-12 thousand baht per month + electricity, water. This house can be rented for 10 thousand ($330). Two rooms, a hall, a minimal set of furniture and dishes.

There are more expensive options. This beautiful two bedroom house costs 17 thousand ($580) + electricity, water.

According to Sasha, the most effective way to look for accommodation is to hire a local “guide”. In our case, “Madame Si” herself offered to look at one house when it turned out that her own had been rented out for a year. Then another one, and another... In an hour with her, we saw more interesting options than the whole day before. She categorically refused money.

The most important thing is to have some time left and take your time. You need to remember that the house of your dreams is somewhere nearby, you just need to find it))

In total, in Krabi, as in other places in Thailand, there are five options for long-term rental housing: hotel, resort, condo/apartment, detached house and villa. Let's look at everything in order:

1. Hotels in Krabi

Well, it’s clear here - an ordinary hotel, where, after haggling properly, you can get a discount on long-term accommodation. In expensive chain hotels, such a number most likely will not work, but small private hotels may well accommodate you.

Pros: full hotel service, cleaning every day, breakfast (if you're lucky), swimming pool, no need to worry about utility bills and other inevitable little things.

Minuses: usually a little expensive, no kitchen, usually small standard rooms.

2. Resorts in Krabi

A resort is, in principle, the same hotel, only built not in “one piece” in the form of a large building, but in separate bungalows. Here at your service there will be a cafe, a swimming pool, a travel agency, a massage - the rest is on the list. Your bungalow will be cleaned every day or every other day, linen and towels will be changed, water, flowers, fruits will be brought to your room - depending on the level of the hotel. “Bungalows” are usually quite standard - one room about 20 meters in area, a bathroom with hot water, a large veranda, an air conditioner, a drawer and a refrigerator, and Wi-Fi here and there.

In the high season of 2010-2011, such an option in a mid-range resort cost 14-15 thousand, bargained for 12-13. As they write in the comments, now there is no such freebie, resorts are reluctant to trade, and one day of stay in them now costs from 1000 baht.

pros: your own house without neighbors, no need to worry about cleaning and washing linen and towels; no additional costs - the price includes water, electricity and internet; usually a good location - close to the sea and civilization.

Minuses : usually there is not a hint of cuisine and, again, a little expensive.

3. Condos and Apartments in Krabi

A condo, short for condominium, is an apartment building with additional amenities such as a pool, gym, and landscaped grounds. Over the past couple of years, several such condominiums have been built in Ao Nang, so fans of high-rise housing can now rest easy. Also in Krabi town and on the outskirts of Ao Nang there are quite a few “tai condos” with a dozen apartments. The rooms are usually quite microscopic, as are the balconies. It's worth the pleasure 5 thousand for tie-condo up to 40 for a new condo per month. Water and electricity are paid separately.

Pros: full-fledged private housing with a kitchen, appliances and sometimes even dishes, swimming pool, gym, territory

Cons: Usually you can't live with animals.

3. Houses in Krabi

Houses for rent in Krabi vary greatly. Previously, Thais mainly rented out their homes, but now entire villages are specially built everywhere for renting out.

As a rule, these are one or two room houses located in a fenced area, sometimes with a shared swimming pool. Houses with little or no furniture and a kitchen. Such villages are built for long-term rental, but you can find a house for a month, especially if the village is new. Get ready to buy all sorts of household items for such a home, such as dishes, a kettle and towels.

Prices - from 6 thousand baht per month for a very modest tie-style hut up to 30-40 thousand for a large house with 3-4 bedrooms and full stuffing. The longer the rental period, the lower the price. Internet, water and electricity are paid separately.

pros: one's own boss; As a rule, there is a kitchen, inexpensive.

Minuses: the Internet often needs to be carried out independently; no service; far from the sea.

4. Villas in Krabi

Detached houses are usually rented by Thais who built them themselves on their own plot. The quality of houses varies greatly: if the Thais built for themselves, then the house may turn out to be a wooden hut on legs without windows or doors. If they built it for rent, it may turn out to be a normal house. In general, the situation is the same as in the villages: the longer the rental period, the lower the price, you will have to pay for utilities yourself, and most likely also provide normal Internet.

You can search for such housing either independently or with the help of real estate agencies.

Pros: cheap; there is a kitchen; your own plot

Cons: Internet access will most likely have to be done independently

Our choice - Baan Po Ngam Resort

On our first visit to Krabi, we lived in Ao Nang in Baan Po Ngam Resort(click on the link to see room availability and prices). The bungalow with all the stuffing was then traded for 12 000 . The next time we rented a separate house for the same price.

What we liked about Baan Po Ngam: a large (25 meters) room, wooden floors (and not terrible tiled ones, like everywhere else), well-groomed territory - like an entire arboretum. At night, with lights, cicadas and bats, it looks fabulous.

Nopparat Thara Beach is a 10-minute walk away. There is a free auto rickshaw shuttle to Ao Nang, but we still had our own transport.

The room has a full-fledged workplace. The wooden tabletop lies on a cast-iron base from a sewing machine; you can turn the pedals to calm your nerves =))

Hot water is generated using a water heater - there have never been any problems, there is enough water for everyone.

The bungalow comes with a large veranda (taken from about the middle of it). Then they brought us a large bamboo table, chairs and an extension cord - we got another workplace. Jaspers live on the palm tree, you can communicate with them casually.

Under the roof of the veranda hang two mummies, left behind by one of the previous residents. Toothy.

The resort has a swimming pool - small, but clean and well-maintained - perfect for diving in the morning. There are also sunbeds and umbrellas, but they weren’t included in the shot.

According to many “experienced” travelers, it is almost impossible to rent a decent lady in Krabi at the height of the season. We decided to listen to their advice and planned our move for mid-April, when housing becomes more accessible and cheaper.

On the second day of our stay in Krabi province, we, armed with a map and a phone, went in search of good accommodation on Ao Nang beach. Our plan was to find a nice, bright one-bedroom house with a swimming pool and a spacious veranda. The budget for this campaign was about 12,000 baht.

WHERE WE LOOKED FOR ACCOMMODATION: AO NANG BEACH

Ao Nang is the most popular tourist area, lined up and down with hotels, apartments and private houses. But despite the apparent diversity, the situation in the local real estate market has not changed since 2011: the same houses that people wrote about two years ago are still being rented. Therefore, during the hot season, the price tag for even the most “rotten” options increases to the skies, because demand during this period exceeds supply. But starting in April, the influx of tourists decreases, prices drop sharply, and houses are vacated one after another.

I don’t know how things are on other beaches in Krabi province in terms of rental housing. But I can definitely say about the pros and cons of the Ao Nang coast.

Pros of Ao Nang Beach: well developed infrastructure, active night life, very beautiful views

Cons of Ao Nang Beach: muddy water in the sea (in the heat it looks more like a puddle), garbage is scattered in the corners, the aromas of which spoil the air.

RENTING A HOUSE IN KRABI: OUR OBSERVATIONS

1. Rental cost

The cost of rental housing in Krabi depends on the season like nowhere else. For example, from December to April our house was rented for twice as much as it is now. The reduction in cost may be affected by the conclusion of a long-term contract of one year.

2. Utility payments

In most cases, electricity, water and internet are included in the rental price. We came across only one German owner, who asked for 9 baht per 1 kW, since his previous tenants burned him about 4,000 baht of electricity per month.

3. Private home or resort?

Houses that are rented out year after year long term on Ao Nang, are gradually developing to the level of a resort. For example, in our house the electricity is turned on and off with a key, and if you sign a contract for three months, then the price also includes cleaning. As a result, the only difference between a resort and an ordinary house is the price.

By the way, if you wish, you can negotiate with hotel owners on long-term rentals. The calculation of the cost per night in this case will be reduced to 30%, and during the low season - up to 50%.

4. Bargain and bargain again!

This rule works especially well during the low season, when most tourists leave for home, and houses are doomed to be empty until November. At this moment, every farang is worth its weight in gold! You can throw off about two thousand at once, and then depending on the circumstances. At the height of the season, this advice will no longer be relevant, but starting in May you can save a lot!

IMPORTANT PLACES: LAUNDRY, WHERE TO GET WATER, WHERE TO FUEL YOUR BIKE

Laundrythere is one on almost every corner. This can be either single washing machines or an entire service with full service. The cost of “washing” varies from 20 to 40 baht.

Buy drinking water You can do it in any store or at a water dispenser, which are ubiquitous in Asia. Tap water, of course, should not be drunk under any circumstances or in any form. We found only one water dispenser on Ao Nang, and we regularly collect water there for cooking and just for drinking. The cost of 1 liter is 1 baht. So far everyone is alive and well :)

Gas stations There are plenty of them in Krabi, but there are also special machines at every step. True, the cost of gasoline is prohibitive - 1 liter 52 baht for 95.

HOUSES IN KRABI ON THE BEACH OF JSC NANG: WITH AND WITHOUT POOL

House No. 1: Banburee resort

The Banburi resort has very bright and sunny houses without a living room. Roughly speaking, there is only a bedroom and a separate kitchen, which overall looks quite harmonious. True, it bothers me a little that upon entering you immediately come across a large bed.

The original price of the house is 12,000 baht. But the owner immediately made a discount of 2000 baht. It seems to me that if we had pressed a little, we would have rented the house for 9000. Utilities and Internet are included in the price.

House No. 2: Large beautiful house with a living room

A very large, cozy and bright house a few kilometers from the beach with a living room and a bedroom. Inside it is equipped with all the necessary furniture: from pots to a TV.

Initial price – 10,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 3: House for a very large company

We had no intention of renting such a huge thing, but out of curiosity, we decided to take a walk through these mansions. The house has five bedrooms, two floors (there is a large attic on the second floor), two bathrooms, a large veranda and a living room. This is an ideal option for a large and friendly company. As for the furniture, the owners promised to furnish the room immediately after payment (apparently, the money was only enough for construction). Hence the condition: long-term rent of 3 months.

Price per month: 30,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 4: Aonang Mountain Paradise - unreasonably high price

Very small houses near the coast of Ao Nang, located on the territory of the hotel. Accordingly, the pool here is shared, and the price includes cleaning of the premises. At the reception, the administrator, after consulting with the owner for a long time on the phone, announced the cost - 20,000 baht. Of course, this price is greatly inflated, since there is little space inside, no living room and kitchen. The maximum discount in our case was 5,000 baht. But on one of the sites people wrote that they rented these houses for 10,000 baht.

Price: 15,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 5: Beautiful house in a resort with a living room

A spacious house with a separate living room, kitchen and bedroom, located on a small hill near the coast. The view from the windows opens onto a green wasteland and giant rock. Not far from the house there is a communal but very small swimming pool. Since this group of houses belongs to the hotel, the price is correspondingly quite high - 40,000 baht.

Price: 40,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 6: Sabai Residence - small apartment-type apartments

Apartment-type apartments with European-quality renovation and a large veranda. Inside there is all the necessary furniture, kitchen, bedroom, living room. But, despite the abundance of rooms, a feeling of enclosed space is created, when there is nowhere to even step. Although we liked the appearance of the apartment, and we seriously thought about renting. The only thing we weren't happy with was the cost - 20,000 baht per month. For long-term rentals of three months or more, we were offered a discount of 5,000 baht.

Price: 15,000 baht. Electricity is not included in the price - 9 baht/kW

House No. 7: Cozy houses with separate kitchen in the resort

This group of houses is partly owned by the hotel, but most of the buildings were purchased by the Thais and are rented on a monthly basis. On the left side there are apartments without a living room, but with a kitchen and a small veranda.​

On the right are separate houses, where the bedroom is separated from the living room by a partition, and the kitchen is located in the back of the room. The swimming pool is shared on the condominium premises.

Price: 15,000 baht (apartment), 18,000 baht (detached house). Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 8: Oscar Villa - ideal price/quality ratio

Oscar Villa is a group of one and two bedroom houses with a communal swimming pool. We immediately liked this option, but had some doubts in terms of the convenience of housing.

Externally, the condominium looks very stylish, but I was a little confused by the layout: under one roof there are two separate houses, united by a common veranda. The villa's grounds are planted with bushes and trees, and the windows overlook the communal pool.

The inside of the house is no less nice than the outside, and consists of a small studio apartment. The first thing that catches your eye is the perfect European-quality renovation, tastefully selected furniture and a breathtaking bathtub with many shelves. But the most important part in the house is the air conditioning, which can be turned on around the clock, since electricity is already included in the price.

In addition to all the benefits of modernity, the house has fast Internet, good sound insulation and excellent daylight thanks to glazed doors and many windows.

Price: 13,000 baht in low season/24,000 in high season

House No. 9: Mysterious Palm Resort: it doesn’t get any cheaper

Hi all! Today I want to tell you how to rent a bike in resort town Ao Nang, Krabi province in Thailand. I know, I know, I already have a post on the topic. I agree, the scheme is similar and works in approximately the same way, but there are nuances and useful tips, which I would like to talk about in this article. Rent a bike in Ao Nang and Krabi Town - our experience

On the first day after arriving in Ao Nang, we checked into a guest house for 500 baht (we couldn’t find anything cheaper, even though it was not the season), and I rented a bike there for 250 baht/day. Exorbitantly expensive, you say! And you'll be right! But at that moment I didn’t want to walk and decided to travel around the area just in search of a house and the same bike, but for a reasonable price. Imagine my surprise when 10 out of 10 firms surveyed the next day told me the price was 250 baht or more! Where am I? It seems that Samui is considered one of the most expensive areas of Thailand, but here Krabi shows its big balls! 🙂

But every cloud has a silver lining. Having toured almost the entire resort town, Marinka and I climbed into the very depths, closer to the mountains. And we met a wonderful person there, Irina Storm, who suggested to us a cool group on Facebook, “Incredible Adventures of Russians in Krabi.” And it was here that I found someone who gives out stories left and right! For a small fee, of course! :) His name is Evgeny Khamitov.

Zhenya is Russian, has lived in Ao Nang for more than a year and has a bike rental business. What difference does it make who you buy a scooter from? But don't tell me! Below are a few differences:

• Firstly, you communicate in the same language and can explain to the person exactly what you want!
• Secondly, Evgeniy has very affordable prices. I rented a Honda Click at the lowest price in town. I’ll say in advance that it was September, and this is not the season. But even during the season, Zhenya’s prices are not off the charts.
• Third, Khamitov does not take a passport! You leave as a deposit an amount equal to one month’s rent (if you absolutely want to leave your passport, please do so). Once the bike is returned, the deposit is also returned.
• Fourth, he does not invent scratches and damage. On the contrary, if something happens to you or the moped, you need to inform Eugene about it! He knows where it is cheaper to repair vehicle, knows doctors and shamans, will tell you where to buy a Vietnamese sprocket for a bike :)
• Fifthly, Evgeniy is a motorcycle instructor. If you have no experience driving a two-wheeled friend, or feel insecure behind the wheel, then Zhenya will teach you several lessons, after which both confidence and skills will come.
• At sixth, these are all kinds of bonuses. For example, Zhenya himself can bring or pick up a bike (by agreement), suggest interesting places and establishments to see. Also, along with the bike, you purchase round-the-clock support for operating the iron horse.

Lifehack 1. Before you go to any city or country, look for groups with a Russian-speaking diaspora on social networks. They are! Google and Yandex are, of course, great, but having the opportunity to ask questions to experts is worth a lot! So, for example, I learned how, where to eat delicious massaman in Phuket, and with whom to play volleyball in Ao Nang.

• The most important advice is don’t drive fast! The lower the speed, the faster you will stop (and don’t laugh and say “thanks, Cap” - in practice this is one of the most useful tips)!
• Always brake with two brakes, pressing the rear brake a little earlier than the front. Do it smoothly. One rear brake can be used when the situation is calm and there is plenty of space. On wet roads and sand, pay extra attention.
• Always release the gas before braking. If you press the gas and brake at the same time, you will lose traction. I hope you can imagine the consequences?
• Do not brake when turning, maneuvering, or when the bike is in an inclined position. The wheel will lose traction and a fall cannot be avoided.
• Practice before heading out onto a busy highway. You need to learn to brake correctly right away, and not relearn it later, after a sad experience.

Life hack 3. Every time I took the bike off (even for a day), I had problems with the wheels. Basically, the camera became unusable due to
for various reasons. I tore off the nipple once. There are plenty of tire shops both in any city and along the highway, since a bike is the most common means of transportation in Asia. Camera replacement prices:

• Krabi Town, Ao Nang – 150 baht.
• Koh Samui Island – 200 baht.
• Koh Lanta island. Here the owner charged me 300 baht, but I wasn’t too lazy, went to a tavern and asked how much the repairs cost. It turned out to be 180 baht. Showed it to the owner and she returned 120 baht without question. Remember, almost everything. You need to keep your ear to the ground with them and not let yourself be deceived!

Life hack 4. In Ao Nang, almost everyone rides without a helmet. As the locals say, they don’t remember the raid here. But I advise everyone to ride only with helmets!
