What is worth seeing in Loutraki? Loutraki - Athens Greece Loutraki on which the sea is located.

From Athens you can always go to day trip to the town Loutraki located on the coast Gulf of Corinth ionian sea. For a weekend trip, the most suitable distance from the capital is just under 100 km along a beautiful three-lane motorway.

The city itself does not represent anything historical and entertaining in terms of architecture - a typical Greek urban development of the new time, but the location is right on the coast, balneology ( mineral water flows from the tap and right on the street), the presence of a casino, 7 Orthodox monasteries, a lake with sea water, ancient excavations of the temple of Hera make Loutraki attractive place for the Athenians.

In addition, there are not so many places in Greece for a city (and not resort village) was located right on the beach and you can leave the house a couple of steps and start swimming. Therefore, by the way, housing prices are higher than the usual level for Greek resort real estate and are quite close to capital prices (say, 2000-3000 euros per sq.m. even in the context of the crisis in Greece). Many Athenians simply have an apartment there instead of a country house, especially since the town is small and even from the outskirts it is still no more than 15 minutes on foot to the sea. However, the Russians also acquire real estate there :)

IN last years Loutraki become popular place to accommodate tourists from the countries of the former USSR - tour operators, in addition to the above, appreciated geographical location- equidistance from popular archaeological sites and historical sites: Corinth, Mycenae, Nafplio, Olympia, Delphi etc. Therefore, the presence of the Russian language in the city is felt: taverns and souvenir shops with an inscription in Russian, advertising of a fur shop is also in Russian, etc. There is a shop "Arbat" with Russian goods (turn around the corner of the hotel "Grand Elit"). German is heard from other foreigners on the streets.

But it's better to see once, of course. So, some photos (all clickable) of the town Loutraki and other attractions in the area (most of the photos were taken on October 4 and 11, 2009).

Exit towards Loutraki from the highway Athens - Corinth (in front of the Corinth Canal)

Road with eucalyptus trees Loutraki from the track Athens-Corinth, the entrance to the city and the central street of Loutraki (it was filmed from the car on the go, so the quality is not very good). The Russian flag on the street is no longer an accident :)

It is worth noting that in summer the passage along the main street is very difficult, the traffic is high. Therefore, if you need to head towards the hotels "Pappas", "Posidonas" or towards the lake, Temple of Hera And Perachory, then it is worth choosing the path along the new ring road. A small section is not yet ready, you need to get to the blue and white building of the Ivi mineral water plant and immediately turn right, soon the fresh asphalt of the district will appear.

Oh, familiar faces! ... The inscription reads "Leader - he is only one!"

Construction of a new building balneological hospital V Loutraki already finished. The construction of the outdoor swimming pool is in full swing and should be completed by the summer of 2010. The institution is municipal, so the prices are divine (or divine?). If I remember correctly, dipping into the radon pool is 5 euros, the same + sauna is 9 euros.

Park at the end of the waterfront Loutraki, there is a playground and cafes and taverns start from there (in one of the photos you can see the monastery of the Prophet Elijah high on the mountain)

Spring "two-faced", on the one hand mineral water, on the other - tap. Tap water in Loutraki is also mineral, only purified. Those. simply delicious drinking water, and in the mineral one feels the presence of salts.

embankment of Loutraki and hotel "Achilion"

In the end Loutraki at the exit near the old building of balneology there are waterfalls with mineral water, near cafes, large parking and city view

After passing the waterfalls, you leave Loutraki towards the monasteries, the village of Perahora And Lake Vouliagmeni past the hotel "Posidonas". The road is a normal Greek country road: slightly winding narrow asphalt with the following views:

On the way there will be a complex of two taverns "Eden" and "Panorama", and a cafe "Egli", made in the original style. The taverns offer a wonderful view of the Gulf of Corinth and Lake Vouliagmenis, in the evening the taverns are beautifully illuminated.

After passing the taverns, there will be a fork to Perahora and to the right up to the monasteries. During the day, only the monastery of St. Potapius is open, the rest are closed for lunch. Therefore, depending on the time of the day, you can choose: go directly to the monasteries or first to the village of Perahora, to the lake, the lighthouse and the temple of Hera.

Perachora- quite a large and pleasant-looking village. The story goes that next to the temple of Hera was ancient city, which is now under water, and it was located opposite Corinth on the opposite shore of the bay, the Corinthians called it "pera chorus" - "city further / city opposite." One of the charms of Perahora is the presence right on the road of a shop from a local olive oil producer, which holds, by the way, the head of the district administration (unless, of course, he lost his post after the last local elections). Finding a store is very easy - there will be a U-shaped fork at the entrance: to the right into the village, to the left towards the lake and the temple of Hera, we go to the left and immediately after the fork there will be a store. Olive oil can be found inside good quality, many types of olives, many of which are prepared according to unique recipes, olive oil soap, as well as other local products: honey, wine, capers, herbal teas, etc. The man is very fond of Russians and his occupation, so he treats with might and main his products and makes small gifts to clients. In short, stocked up with oil, honey and giant white olives with garlic and drove on.

If you drive from Perahora a little in the other direction to the mountains above the village, you can enjoy the next beautiful view, as well as admire the wild-growing flowerbeds of cyclamen under olives

We return to perahora and continue the path towards the lake, about 10 kilometers. The lake was once freshwater, but then a narrow channel opened, which now connects the lake with the sea and the water is, of course, salty. The reservoir has two names - Lake Vouliagmenis(not to be confused with the lake of the same name, located in the Athenian region of Vouliagmeni) or Lake Ireu(by the name of the excavations of the temple of Hera, which in Greek are called Ireo or in Russian Heraion). However, in antiquity the lake was called in another way "Eschatiotis". The lake is large and beautiful surrounded by green mountains. When in Loutraki winds blow, then everyone comes to swim here.

Around the lake there are several fish taverns, the first two meet immediately in the place where the road goes to the lake. Others are further away if you go to the side Temple of Hera, going around the lake on the right. The largest tavern in that direction (by the way, open and in winter time) is called "Lindo".

You can feed flocks of anchovies with bread, plying along the coast and see the "fish outrage" - the struggle for daily bread :)

Next to "Lindo" is another smaller tavern, open in summer and on weekends the rest of the year. To call on her, having traveled around the "Lindo" from above.

In front of the tavern there is a small boat mooring and a small man-made decorative rock with variations on the marine Greek theme :) In the distance you can see a small church near the canal connecting the lake with the sea.

The lake beach in front of the "Lindo" tavern is sandy, very pleasant with sunbeds and umbrellas. Two local seagulls can keep the swimmers company. There are also water sports sports.

Admire the tiny church, located right on the seashore and painted in white and blue colors typical of the Cyclades

And sit down for coffee at the coastal bar-restaurant Ypanema

Very nice place, good music, eucalyptus trees, tables next to the sea. True, the prices are at the level of Athens, but the place is very pleasant, you don’t want to leave there. Nearby there is an organized beach with umbrellas and sun loungers, a volleyball court, water sports. There is parking for clients.

Loutraki is located at the base of a small peninsula, on the edge of which, in the very west, on Cape Melagavi, as you might guess, there is a lighthouse built in 1897. You can see the south and north coast Gulf of Corinth, the mountains of Boeotia, in the distance Loutraki and Corinth. Very a nice place, many come and sit there for a long time on the edge of the rocks, relax. It is especially beautiful in the evening, before sunset.

Under the lighthouse on the shore of a small bay are excavations Temple of Hera so the place is called Heraion(Ireo in Greek). The place itself is very beautiful and the excavations are interesting, you can see the stone cistern and the foundations of the columns of the temple, more precisely, two temples. Above the excavations there is a small church of St. John, like a balcony. There is a small beach under the excavations. Somewhere near the shore in the sea there should be a sunken ancient city. Apparently, for this reason, a free diving championship was held in this place a couple of years ago. By the way, when you live in Greece and see ancient excavations constantly, it is somehow difficult to be impressed by new ones (especially after the Acropolis, Corinth, Delphi, Olympia). But I don’t want to leave this place, there is some kind of energy point here, a unique combination of antiquity, Orthodoxy, the sea and rocks. After staying there for a while, you notice that other people are also in no hurry to leave this place. Yes, admission is free, by the way.

Well, now to monasteries, of which in the area Loutraki 7 pieces: St. Potapius, St. John, St. Gerasim, St. Stephen, St. Nicholas, St. Trinity and Prophet Elijah. The monastery of the Holy Trinity is located to the right of Loutraki, if you look from the side of the Corinth Canal, St. Nicholas and Stefan somewhere above the road to the lake, perhaps the primer leads there, next time we will find out. And the remaining four monasteries are located above Loutraki, an asphalt road leads there. Convents located opposite each other are the first to meet on the way. St. Gerasim(to the right of the road) and St. John(left).

Monastery of Saint John small, in the church there are copies of the icons of the Mother of God and the Birth of St. John, the originals of which are on Athos, there is also one old icon of the Mother of God, blackened from time. To the right of the entrance is a church shop. The monastery closes at lunchtime from 14:30 to 16:30.

The most important thing is that the monastery is an Old Believer and representatives of the modern Greek Church do not favor schismatics, as well as vice versa.

Monastery of St. Gerasimos Kefalonia is much larger in territory and is located on the edge of a cliff with a beautiful panoramic view of the Gulf of Corinth. At the very edge of the monastery courtyard, a platform was built on which a large cross rises, which is visible from afar and is illuminated at night. There are two churches in the monastery, one is bigger, the other is smaller. The bell tower, in contrast to the generally accepted for Greek churches, was built directly on the ground in the form of three arches, through which you can see the sea and Lake Vouliagmenis. There is a large church shop.

Surprisingly, even many residents of Athens do not suspect that they have a real tourist paradise at their side. Loutraki, a city located on the coast of the Corinthian Gulf, is such a Greek Miami with tall palm trees, a glamorous promenade, crowded beaches and the most famous casino in the country. Loutraki is also associated with Brighton Beach, an area of the Russian-speaking diaspora in New York.

And not only because this Greek resort is loved by tourists from the CIS - during the season, Russian speech is heard everywhere here. In addition, quite a few Russian-speaking compatriots live in Loutraki scattered, and they have an officially registered society where they teach Russian and organize various thematic events. No matter what they say, but it is joyful to meet native faces in hospitable Greece - you can always ask for advice or, even better, make new friends.

How to get to Loutraki

Loutraki is located 85 kilometers from Athens and there are many ways to get to the city. The most convenient and pleasant is, of course, by car.

Car rental at Athens airport

You can choose in advance and book a car for a trip to Greece here

(instant comparison of offers, prices and conditions of the world's leading car rental companies, online booking confirmation and flexible terms, discounts, super offers)

But there are others: on intercity buses KTEL, which depart in this direction from the Athens bus station Kifisu or on a commuter train following the Aerodromio-Kiato route. The train line, or as it is called in Greece, "proastiakos", intersects with the blue and green lines of the metropolitan metro. While in Athens, you can choose the metro station that is convenient for you and transfer to “proastiakos”. Out of habit, however, you can get confused which train is yours and from which platform it departs. In this case, it is better to clarify the information with other waiting passengers by repeating the word “Korinthos” (Korinth is correct in Russian, but this may make communication somewhat difficult). Thus, by train you will reach the suburban station of the city of Corinth, from where you can take a taxi with the usual city rates directly to Loutraki.

Naturally, if you are going to rest in the resort of Loutraki with children and luggage, the option to get public transport with many transplants is not suitable. In this case the best option will pre-booked from home . Pros: large reliable company, international taxi service at local prices; order confirmation is sent to your email, and a Russian-speaking driver is waiting at the exit from the arrivals area with a sign with your name on it (no need to look for anyone and negotiate, since the fare is known in advance); payment of the full amount only upon arrival at the place.

By Greek standards, Loutraki with a population of about 12 thousand people is considered a large city. Yes and its unusual modern look in general, it is not typical for Greece, where each region has its own stylistic traditions.

Where to stay in Loutraki

A bit of history and sights of the city

Loutraki, which became at the beginning of the last century the official balneological resort of Greece, around the same time was seriously destroyed by a strong earthquake. It was not the only one that fell to the lot of the city in the 20th century, but it was it, according to the recollections of witnesses, that practically wiped Loutraki off the face of the earth. The city had to be rebuilt almost from scratch. Moreover, he had many admirers - first from noble Athenian families, who suddenly began to consider water treatment a panacea for all diseases, then from different European countries, where the fame of the miraculous power of the mineral springs of Loutraki reached. Even the French, stepping on the throat of their own song, were forced to admit that in terms of composition and quality, the thermal waters of Loutraki are almost as beautiful as their famous springs in the city of Vichy. But, for example, the Italians, in the wake of a large construction project, began to emigrate to Loutraki. First, the workers and engineers who helped rebuild the city, and later their friends and relatives, who found out about the land that gives birth to "living water". In general, to be precise, the first to use the health potential mineral springs The Romans started Loutraki in full force. Mutilated in battles and exhausted by campaigns, the Roman generals gladly strengthened their health in this area. The range of diseases that the richest sources of Loutraki help to cope with is very wide. They especially help with all sorts of delicate women's problems. IN modern Greece it is believed that “lutra”, or in translation “thermal spring” is fun for pensioners. In truth, the Greek old people really adore "mineral tourism" - what, if not health, would you order to take care of in old age? But, of course, far from pensioners are the main audience of the thermal spas of Loutraki. Guests from all over Europe come here for the noble effect of mineral baths.

Without deviating from the topic, let's move on to another water attraction in Loutraki - Lake Vouliagmeni. Every visitor to the region should definitely visit this place. This lake is located a few kilometers north of the city and just a few meters from the sea, in fact, it is the sea, for some reason wormed its way into a tight earthly shell. Lake Vouliagmeni is connected to the sea by a narrow channel, but, as if not recognizing this obvious fact, it eschews a powerful relative. Yes, and how not to become proud - enterprising locals have chosen it beautiful place by building around taverns and cafeterias. At the same time, the developed infrastructure does not spoil the natural beauty of the place at all. The Greeks, despite the fame of slobs that have become stronger in the mass consciousness, like no one else are able to competently interact with nature, even in a market economy. With his natural heritage the inhabitants of Greece try to be tactful and respectful: they do not subordinate it to their goals and needs, but embody the principles of reasonable good neighborliness. Like it or not, if possible, observe for yourself - enjoy the serene view of the lake, plunge into its azure waters, and then go to the nearest restaurant - philosophize over a delicious meal. By the way, Lake Vulyagmeni has its own mythological story, however, it is sad: the daughter of one king who was guilty of the gods drowned here. Having spared the innocent girl, the gods turned her into an underwater inhabitant - a mermaid. According to one version, since then, mermaids in Greece have been called the name of this mythical heroine, namely “gorgons”.

Not far from the lake there is an important archaeological site of the region, or rather, as usual, the remains that have survived for centuries - the ruins of the temple of the once all-powerful cult of the supreme goddess Hera. In Russian-language guidebooks, the object is called Ancient Herayon. It consists of two parts: the ruins of a temple dedicated to the goddess, and the remains of an ancient Greek port that served the commercial interests of the religious public. All of these artifacts date back to around 800 BC. Sometimes the mind simply refuses to accept such information. Today, generations are growing up who do not believe in life without the Internet, and these seemingly forgotten evidence of the creative life of the ancients reminds us that nothing lasts forever. Here, on one of the shores of a bygone civilization, one desperately wants to see even the slightest shadow of it, to hear even a distant echo. But the ancients seem to have betrayed us to eternal oblivion, leaving behind the quiet noise of pine trees and the monotonous rustle of waves.

Versatility tourist Greece bears no comparison. In this, perhaps only neighboring Italy can compete with Hellas, which, succumbing to extreme snobbery, can be called a talented, but still an epigone. What the Catholic neighbors definitely don’t have are inspiring Orthodox shrines. In addition, the Greeks are very flattered by the fact that powerful Slavic peoples have become their religious followers. Therefore, pilgrims from the Slavic countries are always welcome in Loutraki, who, in turn, visit the sacred holy places with trepidation. In Loutraki it church Saint Helena, Monastery of the Prophet Elijah And monastery of St. Potapius, located in the process of geographical increase on Mount Gerania. This mountain, together with all its green areas, is protected natural area. In the region of Gerania is the famous Perachora village, immersed in pine forests and olive groves. From the top of the mountain offers stunning views of the coast of the Gulf of Corinth. One must have an extraordinary gift in order to be able to put at least a fraction of this beauty into some unbanal words. The Greeks, by the way, were the first to fall under the onslaught of the inexpressible splendor of their nature. For example, there is an eternal debate about why there are practically no famous painters among the Greeks. No, many paint here, and they paint soundly, with high quality, especially marine painters. And they give out a kind of souvenir popular print, in places of epic size, which is nice to give to friends from a trip to Hellas. And where are the masters, blocks, mastodons of painting? As the Greeks reluctantly admit, they do not exist, but this is because there are no colors in the world that can display the miraculous splendor of Greek nature.

Things to Do in Loutraki

In principle, all the resort towns of Greece are somewhat similar to each other. Not much different and Loutraki. There is a variety of hotels (with different price categories and levels of services), many of them are located on the hills of the mountains. We stayed in one of these hotels, so it took a long time to go down to the beach. But such a charge is beneficial.

I saw a lot of bored tourists who didn't know what to do in the city. There are really not many attractions in Loutraki, but you can easily get from it by bus or taxi to other famous places, for example, the temple of the goddess Hera, the ancient Greek Acropolis, Olympia, the ruins of Mycenae and Corinth.

Loutraki is famous for its casino, which is located in the hotel " Club Hotel Casino Loutraki 5 * ”, the largest not only in Greece, but also in Europe. It works around the clock, seven days a week. But our company is not very fond of gambling, so we only came to look. We sat in a cozy bar, even met compatriots who were vigorously discussing their winnings.

How much does a holiday in Loutraki cost? October 2014.

tour cost

I was very lucky with the weather. It was October 7 on the calendar, and +30 on the thermometer, and these +30 felt like 26, it was so comfortably warm, but not hot. The water was like fresh milk with small waves. Place Loutraki, pebble beach, clean, well-groomed, not wide, even narrow in places. Everything is paid. Arrived in Athens, transfer at the expense of the tour operator. The ticket was also bought from a tour operator. Price for a week, breakfast + dinner for two - 50000 ru.

We lived in Loutraki, went on an excursion to Athens, a ticket cost 17 euros round-trip, a bus rides for an hour and a half. We also used the metro, very minimalist, the price depending on the number of days and trips from 1 euro to 20 euros. The price of the Acropolis is 10-15 euros, the queue is not big, but there are a lot of people walking around the ruins, although it was not even the season. National Archaeological Museum - 7 euros. There are many excursions from Loutrak, but they are all monotonous (forgive me) some ruins.

Food and products

We ate at the hotel, but a couple of times we had to eat in cafes and restaurants, so we came across expensive ones. I had to eat at fast food places a couple of times.

A glass of wine 5-10 euros, Dorada fish with a side dish (three potatoes) - 20 euros. One skin, yes, bones, they didn’t eat at all, but it didn’t come out cheap.

Souvenirs and other goods

Well-known brands are presented on the central streets of Athens, the collections differ from Russian ones, prices are lower than in Russia, especially for the Zara brand, a chic bazaar in the old city, you will find everything from figurines and embroideries, tablecloths. Everything is very beautiful, take more money). In the bazaar and in small shops, do not hesitate to bargain. Prices are reduced no worse than in Egyptian bazaars. A plate is 15 euros, figurines are average 25 euros, embroidery is expensive 40-50 euros. magnets from 1 euro to five.

Cost of services and entertainment

This holiday is for families without children, as there is no entertainment for children. But for a family that wants to relax in peace, see historical places and soak up the sun, this is the perfect option.

Where is the best place to stay?

Our hotel was called Possidonion (cat. C, 2 stars). It was the cheapest offered by the tour operator, but we did not regret that we took it. The hotel is located on the second line (on the main street), on the square with a fountain, the sea was very close. We got a room on the second floor with a corner balcony overlooking the fountain. The room had two beds, bedside tables, a table, a mini-fridge, own air conditioning, a TV (although we hardly watched it, because all the channels were Greek). Furniture and plumbing - normal. Garbage was taken out every day (if you leave the keys at the reception), towels were changed once, linen was not changed.

The breakfasts were good enough (I expected much worse from two stars). Every day there was such a set of products: sliced cheese and sausages, boiled eggs, fresh cucumbers, jam, butter, cake with raisins, sesame buns, tea, coffee, milk, freshly squeezed orange juice.

The resort town of Loutraki itself is small, but cozy and calm. Loutraki is located on the coast of the Corinthian Gulf of the Ionian Sea. The embankment is long, quite beautiful, with palm trees. It breaks a little in one place, then continues again. As usual in resorts, a certain number of cafes and restaurants go to the embankment. A distinctive feature of the resort is mineral water. It comes straight from the faucet, tastes good. We boldly drank it, boiled tea and took it with us in a bottle on excursions. There are quite strong winds in the evening and in the morning. On our balcony, plastic chairs rolled, driven by the wind, from end to end of the balcony.

We went with a friend on an 8 day sightseeing tour"Treasures of the Peloponnese" with accommodation in the resort town of Loutraki (our tour cost 684 euros for breakfast). from St. Petersburg to Greece and back was through Araxos airport. It takes about two hours to get to the resort of Loutraki from the airport. The tour was organized in such a way that in the morning we went on excursions of various durations (Athens, Mistra, the Monastery of St. Potapius, Patra, Olympia, Epidaurus, Nafplio, Mycenae, a cruise around the islands of Aegina, Angistri), and in the evening we could relax and swim in the sea in Loutraki. The tour was intense and we enjoyed it very much. Returned from excursions usually at 5-6 pm.

In the evening after the excursions every day went swimming. The water was warm, 22-23 degrees. The beach in Loutraki is pebbly. The pebble is different. From the edge where we usually stayed, it is large, towards the center of the beach - smaller. Just from 7 to 9 pm the temperature on the beach was already more or less comfortable. Once we arrived early, around 5 o'clock - it was very hot. Sunset at 9 pm. In Loutraki it is very beautiful - the sun sets behind the mountains.

In general, as we were told, this resort is positioned as inexpensive resort for Greek pensioners (Athens is not very far, about 80 km) and economical foreigners. There were not very many Russian tourists, mostly Greeks (the elderly and families with children), the last two days there was a big arrival of the Poles. There were a lot of them both in our hotel and on the beach.

What can be bought?

In our part of the resort there was one large supermarket "SPAK", small grocery stores, several shops with clothes and shoes.

About product prices

There were several cheap outlets with T-shirt sundresses for 5 euros (Vietnamese sellers) and handmade Greek leather sandals and slippers for 15-25 euros. The prices in the supermarket are “tourist”, but they practically did not differ from our Russian ones. Cherries (very large) were taken at about 4 euros per kg, apricots, peaches, nectarines at 3 euros per kg.

Only local oranges were cheap - 0.6 euros per kg (in appearance they are not very beautiful, some scratched, but tasty, sweet). They also took watermelon (red, but not very sweet) and a melon like our “collective farmer”. Watermelons and melons are not very expensive. They sell inexpensive red lettuce onions (sweet!). This onion is somewhat similar in taste to a good Crimean flat sweet onion.

We bought olive oil and Greek Turkish delight as Greek souvenirs. From alcohol I took Metaxa and some dry wine (nothing special, but I took it at random). Of the Greek wines described by tourists, they tried only the sweet Mavrodafni from Patras (not bad, but I wouldn’t say super). The rest was taken at random. We drank 1.5 liters of local rose wine in plastic packaging (not bad) and one white bottled wine. We usually had dinner with wine, snacks from the supermarket (mussels, crabs, tzatziki, sausage, cheese) and fruits on our wonderful balcony, watching nightlife resort and enjoying the view of the fountain.

Where can you eat?

We didn’t go to restaurants on our own, we didn’t have much time or energy.

About the quality of food and service

We tried various dishes of Greek cuisine on excursions, when our group was brought in for lunch in an organized manner. I did not like the octopus (like rubber), the rest of the dishes (fish, meat, etc. were not bad). The average cost of lunch for one is 13-15 euros.

The surroundings of Loutrak are rich in attractions. 16 km northwest of Loutrak lies Lake Vouliagmeni, which is connected to the sea by a narrow man-made channel. On its shores, the ruins of settlements of the 3rd and 2nd millennium BC, including the remains of boats, were found, which indicates that families of farmers and fishermen lived here at that time. At the very tip of Cape Gereon (or Melagavi), on the very shore, there is a sanctuary of the Earth Goddess Hera, near Lake Vouliagmeni. The most ancient settlements were here in the 7th millennium BC. But the most remarkable buildings here were built in the classical antique period- in the 5th century BC. This is the sanctuary of Hera. The remains of the temple of Hera Akreya (Hera on the Edge) and Hera Limenya (Hera on the Lake) have been preserved. The sanctuary of Hera Akrey stands almost at the very water (it should be remembered that the sea level was then 5-6 meters lower). Parts of the columns, the contours of the halls are also visible on the shore. Opposite Cape Omnia there are four islets called the Islands of Alcyonides Zoodohos Pigi (Living Spring), Daskaleio, Glaronissi (island of seagulls) and Prassonissi.
IN Greek mythology, the giant Alcyonidis had seven daughters. When their father was killed by Hercules, the daughters threw themselves into the sea and were turned into islands by the sea goddess Amphitriti (the wife of Poseidon). The remains of buildings, fragments of ancient ceramics, parts of a protective wall were found on the islands.

A little away from Loutrak, on the way to the city of Corinth, next to the Corinth Canal, there was a stone road for moving ships from the Corinthian Gulf to the Saronic - Diolkos. They were moved on special platforms on wheels by slaves. This is reminiscent of a small stretch of road left untouched on the banks of the canal as archaeological site. It is said that olive oil was also used to move ships. The Corinth Canal in this place looks very picturesque, green thickets along the banks, small taverns. Another attraction in the Loutrak area is a Roman villa built on the border of the eras. Along the central alley that leads to the city of Loutraki, turning right halfway and following the road leading to the Spiritual Lyceum, after 3 km you will come to a natural elevation. Here, archaeological excavations have revealed the ruins of a luxurious Roman villa. The villa was surrounded by an elaborate bath complex. A large number of marble details, parts of the mosaic were found in its premises. On the slope of Mount Gerania, which closes Loutraki from the north, right in the middle stands the monastery of St. Potapius, it can be seen from the beach of Loutrak. You can visit the monastery with a tour group or on your own by car or municipal bus. From there you have a beautiful view of the coast and the city of Loutraki.
Further, the coast turns at a right angle, forming a peninsula, in the center of which is the village of Perahora, and on the other side a number of picturesque small villages - Pissia, Strava and others. On the way to Strava in Malagari you will find the monastery of Agios Nikolaos o Neos, built in the 10th and 11th centuries AD, which is the oldest Byzantine building in the region.
