DIY mobile home, camping options. Gas and electrical equipment

Some travelers and outdoor enthusiasts prefer DIY RVs to pre-built RVs. The choice is explained not only by the lower cost of home-made structures - you can think through the layout and arrange the interior according to your own wishes. Before you build a motorhome with your own hands, you should learn more about the process of making motorhomes and decide which option is better: a caravan or a camper.

Original motorhome

Construction of a motorhome and caravan

Regardless of the type, the motorhome must have minimal amenities: sleeping places for each traveler and an area for preparing and eating food.

In addition, inside the minibus or trailer there may be:

  • wash basin;
  • gas stove connected to a cylinder;
  • shelves, cabinets and other storage systems.

Motorhomes intended for long trips usually have a bathroom combined with a small shower.

When making a motorhome for yourself, with your own hands, you can provide for the presence of a bathroom and everything else that may be needed on the trip.

Making a motorhome with your own hands

A do-it-yourself mobile home is made on the basis of a van or trailer. Buses are suitable for this purpose - the spacious interior and high roof make them a good candidate for conversion.

Before converting a trailer or van, find out the conditions for registering motorhomes with the traffic police.

Motorhome-bus

The construction of a mobile home consists of several stages:

  • drafting;
  • carrying out external and internal works;
  • communications device;
  • placement of furniture.

First of all, you need to decide what to use as a basis: a trailer or a van. The first option is more labor-intensive - the van already has walls and a roof, but in a trailer you will need to build them yourself.

DIY motorhome based on a car

To create mobile housing, they use a car or, for example, old bus. A vehicle for conversion into a house is selected based on financial capabilities and the number of people who will live inside the building.

Depending on the number of residents, they think about the design of the mobile home, as well as its contents. To make work easier, make a plan.

Motorhome based on a cargo van

Before you make a motorhome, you need to stock up on the materials and tools necessary for the work:

  • grinder;
  • car paint;
  • screwdriver;
  • welding machine;
  • thermal insulation;
  • finishing materials (plastic panels, lining or other);
  • moisture-resistant plywood;
  • carpet;
  • fasteners (screws, nails, dowels);
  • polyurethane foam;
  • primer;
  • paint brushes;
  • sealant;
  • wire brush.

Exterior works

When the drawing is ready, the design has been thought out, they move on to external work. Required:

  1. Clean the car body from rust and other damage. If the paint on the surfaces has peeled off, clean it off.
  2. Make several holes in the van for windows, if there were none initially. At the same time, cut holes for ventilation.
  3. Determine the location and cut holes for exhaust gases, drain holes and other communications.
  4. Cover cut areas and areas where paint has been removed with primer to prevent rust from forming. Wait until it dries completely.
  5. Paint the outside surfaces of the van.

Van-based motorhome

Interior work

If you plan to separate the cabin from the living compartment. Then the partition is mounted either using fasteners, or the metal frame is welded to the body with a welding machine.

First, the body is covered with heat-insulating material. Any insulation intended for residential premises is suitable. To fix the material on the walls and ceiling, use hardware made of the same metal as the body - this technique will help protect the car from rust.

If the selected insulation does not tolerate contact with water well, additional waterproofing will be required.

Windows are inserted. Moving on to finishing the walls. For cladding we choose moisture-resistant plywood. The sheets must be quite thick to withstand heavy loads - cabinets, shelves, and furniture will subsequently be attached to them.

Work starts from the ceiling. Having fixed the sheets there, they sheathe the walls. Next, wooden beams as thick as the height of the thermal insulation material are attached to the floor, and insulation boards are laid between them. Cover the floor with plywood and attach it to the timber with self-tapping screws.

The living room, in which the kitchen is located, and the shower and toilet should be separated using a frame partition.

Plywood can be painted, varnished, or carpeted. The latter option simultaneously serves as additional thermal insulation. To fix the carpet, special glue is used.

The next step is the installation of communications in accordance with a pre-drawn diagram: electricity, heating and ventilation. Cable, water and gas pipes are laid either on top of the internal cladding, or installed simultaneously with the installation of insulation inside, making holes for the communication outlets.

Furniture

Furniture for a motorhome is selected individually. Necessary furnishings include:

  • table with bench for the dining area;
  • bed or folding sofa;
  • hanging shelves and cabinets for storing supplies, clothes, bedding;
  • washing.

Since furniture is subject to increased load while the motorhome is moving, it must be of high quality, strong, have reliable fittings and a minimum of moving elements. You should make sure that during a sharp turn the cabinet door will not open and the contents will not spill throughout the cabin.

All furniture must be firmly secured; it is advisable that it be fixed at two points: on the floor and on the wall.

Interior solutions in a motorhome

DIY motorhome from a trailer

Making a caravan out of a trailer is more difficult than converting a car. In this case, you will need to build the base of the floor, walls, and roof from scratch.

For camper construction, single-axle trailers that can withstand loads of up to 1 ton are most often chosen. Therefore, it is necessary to select materials for the frame, taking into account the weight of the future structure.

A camper trailer is erected using a frame:

  • metal;
  • tree;
  • sandwich panels.

The most affordable and relatively light material for making a house on a trailer is wood. It is easier to work with and does not require special tools to connect elements.

Frame

To make the frame you will need:

  • timber 50*50 mm;
  • moisture-resistant plywood 10 mm for walls;
  • plywood 12 mm thick for the floor;
  • fasteners (screws);
  • screwdriver;
  • drying oil, brush;
  • galvanized corners;
  • jigsaw;
  • metal profile for roofing;
  • galvanized steel (for external cladding);
  • silicone sealant;
  • insulation.

They first draw up a drawing of the future trailer cottage, and only after this do they purchase building materials for the manufacture of the facade and roof of the mobile home.

The minimum parameters of the motorhome are 230*160 cm. The height of the building is from two meters. With such dimensions, inside the living compartment you can organize 2 sleeping places, a dining area and a sink. If there is a need to equip full-fledged housing with everything necessary, then the size should be increased by 2–3 times.

The manufacturing process of a motorhome trailer

Work order

  1. Remove the sides from the trailer.
  2. Clean the chassis and paint it with an anti-corrosion compound.
  3. If there is a sufficiently strong base, the logs and the lower trim of the frame are fixed directly on it, but if it is missing, then a frame made of a 50 * 25 mm metal pipe is welded.
  4. The bottom trim is made from 50*50 timber. The side elements are connected to each other using logs. The logs are placed at a distance of every 20 cm. Metal corners are used to connect them to the timber.
  5. Cover the wooden elements with drying oil in 2 layers.
  6. Insulation boards are placed in the space between the joists.
  7. Cover the base with 12 mm plywood, fixing it with self-tapping screws.
  8. Move on to the frame racks. The beam is connected to the lower frame using corners and screws. After this, the top trim is performed.
  9. Cover the entire structure with drying oil.
  10. In places where windows should be located according to the plan, crossbars and racks made of timber are installed.
  11. Sheathing begins from the inside. The plywood is attached to galvanized screws every 25 cm around the perimeter of the sheet.
  12. Sand the internal surfaces using a grinder. Cover with varnish.
  13. The outside of the sheets is treated with drying oil.
  14. Insulation is placed in the cavities between the frame posts, the frame is sheathed with sheets of 10 mm plywood, which are pre-coated with drying oil on both sides.
  15. The door is made from timber and plywood sheets. The door is installed on galvanized hinges.
  16. Windows are inserted. A simple solution is plexiglass sheets.
  17. A self-made mobile home is sheathed with sheets of galvanized steel. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners; they are screwed in around the perimeter at a distance of every 10 cm. The corners of the trailer are sheathed with a corner.
  18. Treat the joints of the sheets with each other and the corners with sealant to prevent water from entering the structure.
  19. All that remains is to make the roof and roofing. You need to cover it with corrugated sheets, attach the sheets to galvanized screws.

Internal layout

The walls, ceiling and floor are already sheathed, so all that remains is to paint or varnish them. If the size of the building allows, the shower and toilet are equipped with a separate room. They erect a frame partition and hang a door. All remaining space is divided into zones: sleeping area, relaxation and eating area, kitchen. You will need to install sockets for electrical appliances; it is important not to forget about high-quality ventilation for your mobile home.

Furniture

To save space, transformable furniture is installed inside the trailer. For example, they make it themselves or purchase a reclining table or sofa bed. At the top of the walls, shelves are installed in which things, kitchen utensils, and clothes will be stored.

Useful little things

What else is worth knowing before you start making a motor home:

  1. For the outer cladding of the frame of a trailer motorhome, you can use not only galvanized steel, but also corrugated sheets.
  2. If you cannot organize a ventilation system, you can cut small holes in the door and cover them with a mosquito net. If there are windows that open for ventilation, this is not required.
  3. In order for a mobile home to serve for a long time, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the cladding and paint the metal if necessary.

The process of creating a mobile home on your own is quite labor-intensive; it requires financial investment, time and effort. Therefore, proceed to it with full confidence that you will be able to independently develop the project and bring it to life.

If you decide to make your own motorhome, you will need some basic knowledge, tools, a lot of patience and even more free time. And, of course, reliable vehicle to create a camper.

This article contains some photographs of a mobile home built with your own hands on the basis of a Volkswagen car. Most of the tips can also be applied during the construction of motorhomes based on other cars.

Before you start, it is very important to read the next paragraph!

IMPORTANT! Before you start creating a camper with your own hands, it is necessary to legalize the implementation of such a procedure. In this case, you will be able to prevent various legal difficulties. Rules vary depending on the country, so we cannot publish uniform recommendations on this matter.

First steps

Building a mobile home with your own hands consists of the following steps:

  • Exterior works
  • Interior work
  • Water supply works
  • Gas and electricity
  • Furniture
  • Other

If the van will be used by only two people, there will be really a lot of space. If you are planning a trip for 3 or more people, you need to consider the number of seats. Remember that seats must be equipped with appropriate seat belts.

How many sleeping places will you need? One option is to arrange a bunk bed for children. If you have extra space under the roof, you can make a “drop-down” bed.

At this stage, you should have a clear plan for further action. Of course, you can improvise, but it's much easier to have a well-thought-out plan on paper.

Exterior works

The first thing you need to do when preparing a base vehicle is to thoroughly clean the inside of the car.

At this stage you also need to think about the shape of the body as a whole. It's time to deal with body damage and rust. Local or complete painting of the car will help.

Typically, vans do not have windows, so you may want to consider installing them. They are needed to ensure the flow of fresh air and sunlight into the motorhome. Windows come in different shapes and sizes, the choice depends on your preferences and body features.

During the construction of a motor home, you will have to make several holes in the body of the car. We are talking about openings for ventilation, gas outlet (in case of leakage), heater exhaust gases, water fillers, etc. Some of them may be done later, but it is much easier to solve the issue now if you know exactly where they will be.

Remember to apply primer in any areas where there is bare metal to prevent corrosion.

Build your own motorhome the right way!

Interior work

The van will most likely have a partition behind the front seats. Some partitions are attached with screws, others are welded to the body. A grinder will help solve the problem.

Remember to use protective equipment. Sparks can leave nasty stains on glass that are impossible to get rid of.

The fun begins. The insulation layer is very important as it will protect your camper from outside noise and temperature. There are many materials that can be used. The choice is up to you.

In this case it was used Armaflex material. It should be cut into pieces and glued. The main point is protection from moisture. If the insulating material does not protect against moisture ingress, it should not be used.

It is necessary to prepare insulating material, lightweight and moisture-proof plywood, as well as soft and flexible carpeting.

For the side covers, thicker plywood should be used, since furniture will be installed on them in the future.

Use a wide temperature range adhesive or sealant to secure insulation and carpeting to the sidewalls. Because the RV will be exposed to both freezing temperatures and the hot summer sun. The heating operation will also be affected. If you use low-quality glue, the work will have to be redone after some time.

Where to begin? Start sheathing your motorhome, from the roof to the flooring. First, we install the insulating and cladding layers on the ceiling, then we move on to the side panels.

Use wood strips on the floor to create enough space for insulation. The slats are secured to the floor using appropriate sealant. Then a layer of insulation is laid, after which it must be covered with plywood. The plywood is secured using sealant or screws.

Remember about the water supply, as well as the need to lay electrical cables and gas pipes. Wires and hoses can be routed through the insulation or under plywood covers if you already know where all the fixtures will be installed.

Water supply works

The RV must have a cold running water supply. To do this, place two cans of water under the sink. A submersible pump supplies water to the tap.

If you need warm water, an additional sink or shower, the system will be more complex. You can install large water tanks in other places, for example, under the van. You will need hoses to connect the entire system.

When you make a motorhome yourself, you are limited only by your imagination.

Don't forget about wastewater. You can install a suitable reservoir under the car or run a hose through the floor to drain the water into a portable tank or regular bucket.

Remember that used water smells terrible in summer and freezes in winter. Therefore, you need to get rid of it as soon as possible, so a bucket can be the ideal solution.

What about the toilet? You can install one of the convenient portable toilets.

Gas and electricity

IMPORTANT! Gas supply hoses and electrical wiring must only be installed by qualified personnel! If installed incorrectly, they can pose a serious hazard. Make your own motorhome, but don't put other people at risk.

Propane in the camper can be used for cooking, heating, and also connecting a refrigerator. You can do without it, using an electric stove and refrigerator, as well as an independent Webasto heater.

The gas cylinder must be stored in a separate place with holes in the bottom. Why does there have to be holes at the bottom? Because propane is heavier than air, it will always go down.

You could even make a valve to connect the gas stove to the outside of the car so you can cook outside the van in the future.

Again, build the camper properly for your own safety!

Electricity necessary to start all devices designed for 12V. The system consists of a battery, charger/converter, control panel and many wires.

Don't forget about the external connector for charging the motorhome battery from a regular electrical outlet (110V or 220V). You can also use it at home by charging the battery during winter storage.

In order to determine how much battery capacity you need, you will have to perform simple calculations. Let's say you will use the following:

  • Halogen lamps: 2×20W 2 hours a day = 80 Wh
  • Refrigerator: 45W 12 hours a day = 540 Wh

The total power consumption is 620 Wh per day. Now divide 620Wh by 12V and you get 52Ah. This is your daily power consumption. As a rule, a 100Ah battery will last about two days of battery life.

Make calculations taking into account the energy consumers you use. This will help you get the average daily electricity consumption figures.

Gas and electricity are very important issues to consider when building a campervan. If you plan to use the motorhome for traveling far from civilization, autonomy should be maximum. Take your time, think through everything carefully and calculate it.

Furniture

In this matter, nothing limits you either. You can confidently realize your dreams. There are many ways to make and install furniture.

Sometimes quite suitable furniture can be found at various disassembly sites, we advise you to search. Good offers sometimes appear at online auctions, and furniture is sometimes sold at a very affordable price.

You can also design everything from scratch. Some companies sell ready-to-install parts, covered with veneer. All you have to do is apply varnish (if necessary) and install the furniture. You can also contact a professional to help you with this matter.

Making a camper yourself is not too difficult a task for an experienced craftsman. But the time frame for such construction can be greatly delayed due to the constant improvement of the design. To avoid getting into such a situation, you should think through the interior in advance, abandoning obviously unnecessary elements. This is especially important when equipping small cars, for example, when creating a motor home from a GAZelle with your own hands.

A mobile home has undeniable advantages - comfort, coziness and mobility. Moscow is a noisy city that you sometimes want to leave. Trailer owners do not have to look for a place to stay overnight, and travel becomes very economical. If you haven’t had the opportunity to use this original housing before, you should first familiarize yourself with their classification.

Types of motorhomes and their classification

When choosing the type of future mobile housing, you can be guided by its division according to:

  • in appearance - there are trailers, vans, or mobile homes combined with a car;
  • class – there are three classes of comfort for motorhomes;
  • trailer type - there are trailer trailers, hybrid trailers and fifth-wheel trailers.

If everything is clear with the trailer type of mobile home, then the difference between a van and a combined motorhome is not immediately visible. In the first option, the living space is located in the van of the car and is separated from the driver's seat.

This option is suitable when traveling as a couple, when no one stays at the “house” during the move. Thanks to this design, it is possible to fit in more functional furniture using a blank front wall.

Motorhomes converted from GAZelles or minibuses are precisely combined.

The comfort class can be called conditional. Thus, Class A motorhomes include spacious trailers made on the chassis of large trucks. Outwardly, they resemble a bus, can have folding structures, and inside, in terms of functionality, they do not differ from a small apartment.

Please note that the driver must have a category “C” license to drive this vehicle.

There is much less space in it, but it is still convenient to travel in them. What is important is that you can drive such a car with a category B license if the weight of the car or the total weight of the car with a trailer does not exceed 3.5 tons.

Class "C" indicates the most basic motorhomes. This could be a small trailer or a minibus converted into a camper. There is no separate sleeping place - its function is performed by folding sofas or armchairs. But by equipping such a mini camper with a trunk-tent, a folding canopy and a set of camping furniture, you can get comfortable stay with a minimum of costs.

Such construction trailers are also called hybrid trailers to distinguish them from simple trailers. Separately, it should be noted fivesville trailers, the shape of which is designed for use in conjunction with pickup trucks. Thanks to this, it is possible to reduce the length of the entire caravan, because part of the trailer hangs over the car body.

Mistakes when building mobile homes with your own hands

Prices for mobile homes are noticeably high. It is not surprising that skilled family heads want to save money and do everything themselves. It’s important to be wise and learn from other people’s mistakes:

  • you shouldn’t make everything from scrap materials - you’ll have to live in the house for at least a week and you want to spend your vacation in comfort;
  • serious modifications to the body, heating system, wiring will be required - you cannot do without the skills of an auto mechanic;
  • if you still managed to fit in a shower and toilet, do not forget about the drainage tank - pouring dirty water onto the asphalt or lawn is extremely unethical;
  • It’s better not to forget to make a connector for connecting 220V to campsites, and a converter for 12V from a car battery.

Making your own trailer

If difficulties do not frighten you, and the desire for action is unstoppable, you can try your hand at building a house. And whether to remake a GAZelle or build a trailer from scratch - the choice is strictly individual!

DIY mobile home from GAZelle

To work you will need a grinder, a welding machine, a hand saw for wood and a lot of patience. The gradual modernization of the car looks like this:

  1. The seats are taken out of the cabin, the old trim is removed. All metal parts are treated with a special solution that prevents rust. The walls and ceiling are insulated with foamed polyethylene, and sheets of plywood are laid on the floor. All wiring runs under the floor and wall cladding; this should be thought out in advance.
  2. The frame for the furniture is welded right in the body. If the car cannot be leveled, you can use a pipe as a level, its ends resting against the lower edge of the window openings. After rough welding, the frame is removed and everything is welded, cleaned and brought inside again.
  3. Window openings are covered with carpet. Ceiling panels covered with carpet are also installed. After completing the interior trim, you can attach the slats under the mezzanine and mount the furniture frames.
  4. A swivel mechanism can be made for the front seats. To do this, you will need a front hub, for example, from a VAZ, and part of a rotary strut. The scheme is quite simple.
  5. The final stage is installing furniture on the frame, connecting lighting, installing a pump for the kitchen washstand, covering the mezzanines and minor interior improvements. For cooking, you can put a small gas stove on one burner.
  6. Instead of welding the furniture frame, you can use ready-made sets, reinforcing them from the inside with corners and additional screws. The kitchen also needs to be attached to everything - the floor, the sofa, the wall. This is done to protect the furniture from becoming loose while driving on bumpy roads.

We should not forget that such a modification of the car requires registration with the REO. To do this, you need to write an application and receive a resolution from the technical department of the traffic police and a protocol from the authorized organization.

Stylish plywood trailer house

If your car has a towbar, it would be a sin not to take advantage of the situation and not make a nice “drop” trailer for overnight stays outside the city. For this:

  1. The side walls of the future van are cut and attached to the base. All holes for doors and windows, as well as to lighten the frame, must be cut in advance, so it is better to think through the drawing carefully.
  2. Shelves are assembled from furniture panels and installed on the base. These same shelves will serve as the front and rear walls of the van.
  3. According to the shape of the van, a plywood sheet is bent above the shelves on both sides, and a power frame made of timber is fixed on top. One side is made liftable, providing access to the kitchen.
  4. The top hatch and skylight are cut out. The entire frame is insulated and the wiring is installed.
  5. Everything is covered with veneer sheets on top. Once the door and window openings are cut out, you can begin exterior painting and varnishing.
  6. Doors, an overhead hatch and supply and exhaust ventilation are installed. After securing all the fittings, side lights and wheel fenders, you can safely set off on your journey!

And the video shows the detailed assembly of the motorhome with the installation of solar panels:

A mobile home is a type of transport that is both housing and a means of transportation. This type of housing gained its popularity at the beginning of the last century.

By standard, a mobile home must accommodate eight people. Each resident has his own sleeping place, and there is also a small kitchen. Other amenities and equipment may vary depending on the specific model, but in most cases there are also:

More expensive models have a bathroom consisting of (often replacing a chair, which gives several additional meters of free space), a washbasin and a shower. Sometimes mobile homes are equipped with showers.

Note! In the motorhome, the driver's and passenger seat are movable, as a result of which, when parked, they turn into an addition to the living space. The tail is often equipped with a separate room with U-shaped furniture.

Story

Mass production of mobile homes began in the last century, although some historians believe there were earlier home-built equivalents. They were small vans equipped for living people (mainly cattle breeders).

The first mobile home mounted on a conventional automobile chassis was introduced in 1938 by Jennings.

Types of mobile homes

There are several classifications of motorhomes. So, according to the design features:

Depending on their purpose, they are divided into:

  • those used as long-term/permanent housing;
  • those used for travel.

In the first case, more comfortable conditions take place, while frequently moving structures are extremely rarely divided into the actual living area and the cabin.

Categories

Let's look at each of the categories in detail.

C-class

Small-sized houses intended for short trips. Usually made on the basis of SUVs, so at night the cabin can be converted into a double bed (if desired).

B-class

The only difference between it and the C-class is the berth - it is stationary and located at the rear of the vehicle. Very popular among young couples (at least in America).

A-class

Such houses, which look like a regular bus, are the most comfortable and, therefore, the most expensive. They are built on the basis of trucks, so from the point of view of transport classification they belong to category “C”.

They feature a large windshield, a fixed driver's seat and retractable partitions that create different areas and separate sleeping areas. Moreover, such structures are autonomous, equipped with a generator, have gas and a large supply of water.

Several additional categories can be distinguished.

About the name

The term “motorhome” (another name is “camper”) often refers to a car caravan.

Note! Campers are called B- and C-class trailers, while motorhomes are exclusively A-class models.

It is also worth noting that in individual countries without exception, all motorhomes are called vinebago.

Turning a car into a motorhome will require a lot of effort and time, as well as the appropriate equipment.

Note! First, you should study this issue from a legal point of view. Different registration organizations view home-built motorhomes differently, and it would be a shame if the vehicle ends up being illegal.

Stage 1. First, the number of residents is determined and, based on this, the vehicle and internal “stuffing” are selected. A detailed design plan is drawn up - this can be done on paper, but it is better to use a computer.

Stage 2. Next, the car body is cleared. If dents are identified, they are removed and the peeling paint is cleaned off. Several windows (if there were none) are installed in the building for lighting and fresh air.

Stage 3. Ventilation holes and valves for gas supply are cut out. All areas of bare metal are coated with a primer to protect against corrosion and aggressive environmental influences.

Stage 4. The house is finished with thermal insulation material.

Note! To do this, you need to use only high-quality materials; saving is highly undesirable. In addition, the material from which the hardware (metal fasteners) are made must be similar to the metal of the car body - this is for additional protection against rust.

Stage 5. The inner surface of the motorhome is finished.

  • carpet covering;
  • moisture-resistant plywood.

Thick panels with padded strips for mounting furniture are inserted into the side walls. It is typical that first it is better to level the ceiling, and only after that move on to the walls.

Stage 6. After installing the furniture, you should take care of the water supply. To do this, you can place several cans of water under the sink and install small pumps. In addition, you can install large tanks - for example, for taking a shower.

Note! Don’t forget about wastewater - another tank is installed for this. An ordinary garden structure can be used as a toilet.

Step 7. For cooking and heating, as noted earlier, it is better to use propane gas. The cylinder is located in the lower part of the body, as well as an additional hole for ventilation. This can be explained quite simply: propane weighs more than air, so in the event of a leak, such safety measures will prevent dire consequences.

Stage 8. All that remains is to take care of the energy supply. The best option– a powerful rechargeable battery equipped with an external charging outlet.

Mobile home made from an old trailer

Our trailer-trailer costs about 500,000 rubles. The amount is impressive, so if you have the opportunity to purchase an old car trailer, you can build a small motorhome with your own hands. For this you will need:

  • trailer (necessarily with a strong chassis);
  • wooden elements (slats, bars, carriage planks);
  • plywood;
  • metal profile (for roofing);
  • fittings made in the same style;
  • a set of appropriate tools.

Manufacturing technology

Such a motorhome will be a trailer with a rear part. By the way, it is better to make the bed the entire width of the structure - this way it will connect the side walls and thereby increase rigidity. The bay window will be manufactured later and equipped with a custom block. The door is installed of the Dutch type - it will consist of two halves.

Stage 1. The trailer is disassembled, the chassis is thoroughly cleaned and coated with anti-corrosion paint. A frame is constructed from pine boards, and supports are cut out in appropriate places.

Stage 2. A frame is constructed from slats with a cross-section of 2x2 cm; an oak slat with a cross-section of 3x3 cm is additionally installed in each corner. A horizontal slat is tied on top of the frame.

It is advisable to use lining of different thicknesses:

  • for side walls – 6 mm;
  • for front and rear – 19 mm.

Note! For thermal insulation, you can lay the lining in two layers.

Stage 3. The floor is covered with plywood sheets. Poplar beams are used for the roof - they are screwed along the frame in increments of 30 cm. Plywood is fixed on the beams, on top of which a moisture-resistant material and a metal profile of a small cross-section are laid.

Stage 4. There will be only one window in the building (if you do not count the door) - at the top of the back wall. It is advisable to make the window in the form of a bay window.

The door lock in such designs is located at the bottom, but you can put another one - an additional one - at the top. In addition, the door is equipped with a small casement window.

Stage 5. It is recommended to equip a table that extends from under the bed (as was once the case on Great Britain trains). For this purpose, special lockers are formed under the bed. By the way, the lower space can also be used as a sleeping place.

In addition, shelves and a removable ladder are built from wood.

Letter of the law

No additional permit is required if the dimensions of the mobile home do not exceed:

  • 400 cm in height;
  • 255 cm wide;
  • 100 cm in length (excluding the part that does not protrude beyond the trailer).

If the dimensions are larger, then the motorhome is transported according to special rules (flashing lights, escort, etc.). Of course, this only applies to caravans.

Organizing a mobile home business

You can organize your own business in the construction of motorhomes. There are four options for developing such a business.

Option #1. Making houses for sale for summer holiday

or living in the country. This will not require serious material costs, since the houses will be of a simplified design - for example, without insulation.

Option #2.

Rent out mobile homes. This is a relatively new business, and everything new can be very expensive. The number of motorhomes in this case increases as the customer base grows.

Option #3.

Make mobile eateries or shops.
