Story

The history of the modern airport begins with the appearance of a hydroport in Khabarovsk in 1929. Two years later, the hydroport could not cope with the volume of work, and it was decided to build new airport with a land airfield. It was opened in 1938.

In 1953, the first runway with artificial turf appeared here.

The airport complex began operations in 1954. At that time, it was capable of serving up to 400 passengers per hour. However, already 10 years later there appeared new terminal with a capacity of almost twice as much - 700 passengers per hour.

In 1970, the airport was given international status. The first international charter flight connected Khabarovsk with the Japanese city of Osaka. The first regular flight to Niigata (Japan) was carried out only in 1978.

A second runway was built in 1980.

In 1990, Khabarovsk airport set a record for passenger traffic, which it has not yet been able to break - 3.6 million passengers.

Construction of the international terminal was completed in 1993.

Since then, the airport management has regularly reconstructed the terminal complex, modernized technical equipment and expands route network aviation center.

As part of the federal program “Great Names of Russia”, in 2019 the airport began to be named after Admiral Gennady Nevelsky.

Terminals

Commissioning of the new international terminal is scheduled for October 2019. At the same time, construction of a new domestic air terminal is underway.

The airport currently has two passenger terminals. One serves domestic flights, the other – international. Their capacity is 1,500 and 700 passengers per hour, respectively.
