Tsaritsyno Museum Park

The park is rare in many ways. Some of the trees here have remained from the time when these lands were owned by the Cantemir family. The park ensemble is made up of lindens, oaks, pines, birches, cedars of several types. In the period from the 16th to the 18th century, a cascade of ponds was formed.

History

Before the construction of the royal apartments here, the present Tsaritsyno belonged to Dmitry Cantemir. In the Russian-Turkish war, the ruler of Moldova sided with Peter I, which earned him gratitude and part of the lands near Moscow. The place was then called "Black Mud" - there really was a lot of healing mud in the area.

Once she went for a walk around the outskirts of Kolomenskoye, Catherine II drew attention to a wonderful place - lakes, ravines, wonderful green groves. The descendants of Kantemir did not like their possessions too much and happily ceded them to Catherine.

The Empress spent several summer months, after which it was decided to build a summer residence. So in 1775, Black Mud again passed into the imperial property and the place was renamed Tsaritsyno.

The initial project of the royal chambers and the adjacent territory was created by the brilliant architect Vasily Bazhenov. According to his idea, for example, the ravines on the territory of the estate did not fall asleep, as was usually the case - they were decorated with fancy bridges. The hills, on the contrary, were not leveled, but were used to give even greater grandeur to the palaces built on them. The entire territory thus became part of the general idea, each building turned out to be connected with all the others. Construction began, but mutual understanding between the great architect and the great empress did not work out, and Bazhenov was "excommunicated" from Tsaritsyno, giving the reins of government to his student, Mikhail Kazakov. Bazhenov was terribly offended: legends say that he did not even spare money for revenge and paid the sorcerer, who arranged a kind of "spoilage" in Tsaritsyno. The curse promised that no one would ever be able to build anything worthwhile here. Whether the curse worked or it just turned out to be a coincidence, but the palace built by Kazakov caught fire and collapsed very quickly.

As a result, the imperial estate was never built here, and Catherine did not manage to live in these parts. For several centuries Tsaritsyno plunged into desolation, everything was slowly destroyed and overgrown. Even the current older generation still well remember how, as children or already students, they came to the old abandoned park, wandered through the ruins and ruins, or had picnics here on the remnants of the walls overgrown with moss. It was difficult even to imagine that someday this would change.

It was only at the end of the 20th century that a decision was made to revive the Tsaritsyno territory. In fact, the royal estate, once conceived by Catherine, was built, although much later - modern architects took the drawings of those times, modern materials as a basis and tried to recreate the initial idea.

How to get to the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

Tsaritsyno is located quite far from the city center, so it makes sense to allocate a whole day for a trip there.

The fastest and easiest way to get there is by metro. There are two stations near the park: Tsaritsyno and Orekhovo, the latter much closer to the entrance to the park.

There was a lot of controversy around this fountain: historians considered it an inappropriate remake, since Catherine was completely indifferent to fountains, and the new interiors of the palace do not carry any historical truth. Many Moscow architects also considered this composition strange. Nevertheless, the restorers managed to preserve the charm of antiquity.

A bit of history

The estate at this place has been known since the middle of the 17th century, when it bore the dissonant name "Black Mud". In the 18th century. the princes of Cantemir ruled here. At one time, they built a luxurious greenhouse there and grew grapes, lemons, peaches and other fruits atypical for the middle strip. At the end of the 18th century. everything changed: Empress Catherine laid eyes on the estate and immediately acquired it. Of course, he immediately renamed himself to match: "Tsaritsyno".

It was decided to arrange an imperial residence in the estate, and this responsible business was entrusted to the architect Vasily Bazhenov. According to the original idea, there should be 4 - 3 palaces for the Empress herself and 1 for Prince Pavel Petrovich and his wife. But financial difficulties have crippled all these architectural plans. Bazhenov was replaced at the post by the architect Kazakov, who took up the construction of the Grand Palace, but was never able to complete the work. Thus, the palace stood unfinished for 200 years.

By the end of the 19th century. Tsaritsyno has become one of the most popular estates in the Moscow region. After the revolution of 1917, the Soviet of Peasants 'and Soldiers' Deputies was located here, and in 1960 Tsaritsyno became part of Moscow. Thirty years later, it was given the status of a museum-reserve, and a completely different story began for the estate. All buildings on the territory were restored and soon the museum came under the control of the Moscow Government.

The Small Palace is located on a hill, it is built in the shape of a pyramid and looks more like a park pavilion than a full-fledged palace. However, a white-stone emblem with the monogram of the empress in the rays of glory has been preserved here, which reminds of the original purpose of this building.

The Middle Palace (Opera House) is a building that Vasily Bazhenov considered his architectural pride. Outwardly, it looks like a carved jewelry box. Despite the name, music was first heard here at the end of the 20th century, and until then the purpose of the Opera House was exclusively decorative.

You can also get to Tsaritsyno by bus 151 (stop "Tsaritsyno"). Buses of routes 117, 274, 275, 704, 711, 758, 765 follow to the stop "Orekhovo metro station", which is located right at the entrance to the forest park part of Tsaritsyno.

By private car

You can get to Tsaritsyno by car from the side of Novotsaritsyno highway. You can also drive along the Kashirskoye highway, turning onto Shipilovskaya street in the Orekhovo-Zuevo area.
