In most cases, “cruises” contain two modes:

Speed ​​limit mode is a mode in which a fixed vehicle speed is set, exceeding which is limited electronically, and further pressing of the accelerator pedal is ignored. Disabling this mode occurs either by disabling the function or by pressing the “kick-down” button.

Speed ​​maintenance mode is a mode in which the set speed value is reached, and the electronics automatically maintain this value. This mode is turned off either by turning off the function or by pressing the brake pedal.

Let's look at installing such a device using an example Peugeot 308 Premium with automatic transmission.

Initially, cars of this configuration do not have “cruise”. In the electronics market, on this moment, there are many different universal systems. But such options require a competent installation specialist, because... Not all systems support standard connection of speed control devices. Therefore, we need a system that is installed standardly, but in more expensive car trim levels.

To install the cruise control system, we will need:

  • Tool for dismantling plastic interior elements
  • Hexagon “asterisk” CR-VT20
  • Cruise control knob


As I already indicated above, depending on the functionality, there are two types of “cruise” systems. For the Peugeot 308, this functionality is tied to the control knob:

  • Control knob with speed control 6242.Z9
  • Control knob with set speed support + speed limit 6242.Z8

On the donor car we install the first type of “cruise” - control knob 6242 Z9(it was just the one that was available).

Functionality of the cruise control control knob:

  • The wheel is responsible for activating the speed control function
  • The end button is responsible for turning on/pausing the speed maintenance mode
  • The petals on the back of the lever are responsible for setting/changing the supported speed value

First of all, you need to remove the upper steering column cover. To do this, use an asterisk hexagon to unscrew the 2 screws from the bottom of the steering column casing.

There is a plug on the left side of the casing that needs to be removed.

Then, remove the plug in the steering column itself, where the control knob will be installed directly.

As you can see, the lever contains a socket for a printed circuit board, which is located under the steering column plug.

We install the control knob into the grooves of the steering column until it clicks.

Reinstall the upper steering column cover and tighten the screws.

After this, you must contact an official dealer or certified service center for Cruise control activation (not installation)!!! At the same time, regardless of the installed handle, two modes can be activated at once! After this, you can replace the control knobs - both functions will work.

To check the functionality of the “cruise control”, we activate the speed maintenance function by turning the wheel on the control handle to the ON position. The following picture will appear on the instrument panel screen:

We accelerate to the required speed, and press one of the control stick petals (upper or lower) to fix/select the speed mode. Speed ​​maintenance mode is enabled.

As a result of installing the cruise control knob, you should be left with two of these parts, and nothing more - the casing plug and the steering column plug.

In many trim levels, the Estima Hybrid is equipped with cruise control. This is a device that allows you to drive at a constant speed without the need to use the gas pedal. In Estima, cruise is controlled by a lever located to the right of the steering wheel and allows you to accelerate, decelerate and move at a consistently constant speed without touching the pedals. The thing is indispensable on long trips, and, fortunately, for the hybrid Estima the problem of its absence is solved very simply.

So, how to install cruise control (cruise-control, speed control or autocruise) for our hybrid.
First, everything we need from tools.

  1. crosshead screwdriver
  2. Head 19
  3. Torx screwdriver T25 (marked SATA 21105)
  4. Thin awl or nail scissors

In addition to the tools, we will need the cruise control lever itself, 3 self-tapping screws to secure it, and a plastic steering wheel trim with a hole for the lever. All this can be ordered from any company that sells original spare parts, or found at a disassembly site. Both the lever itself and the plastic are the same on many Toyotas, so you shouldn’t look for Estima at a car disassembly, but you can try your luck with parts from another car (it’s especially recommended to try the MARK II 110th body). True, you will have to get around the issue of matching the color of the plastic.

So, our way is to order everything new. The catalog numbers we need and approximate cost:

The steering column plastic has 2 different colors. You can determine which one you need specifically as follows: if you have the line TRIM QB14 on your engine compartment plate (or the color approximately matches what is in the photos below), then order 45184-28120-B1. Otherwise, order 45184-28120-B0. In addition, you don’t have to order screws, but personally it seems to me that it’s easier to spend 50 rubles than to go to the market and select the size by eye.

So, now that our order has finally arrived, let's take a closer look at installing the cruise control on the steering wheel.

First, let's remove the airbag. Using a knife, carefully separate the plugs on the sides of the steering wheel and use a star screwdriver to unscrew the two screws holding the SRS airbag. There is no need to try to get them out (this is probably not possible). You can try with a regular screwdriver, but they are screwed on very tightly.

After that, we disconnect the white connector with the single (for now) blue wire and unscrew the steering wheel with a 19mm socket. The nut itself should move easily, but after that it still seems like the steering wheel is holding something, it’s so tightly seated. Rock it with force in different directions and it will come off easily. Before this, it would be nice to mark with some light marker how it fits on the pulley, because there is a huge chance that the steering wheel will be placed crooked during assembly.


I’ll add that we won’t need the connector itself anymore, so you can mutilate it as you wish. I always use nail scissors to press out the clips in the last step. They have very thin metal and a sharp tip. After removing the wire, simply insert it into the connector located on the cruise control lever (no need to lift or press anything). Be careful not to mix up the side of the connector, otherwise you will have to repeat the process. As a result, this should look like this:

After bending the antennae, remove the pillow screws from the old plastic and insert them into the new one. Then we put the cruise control knob in place and fasten it with TWO screws as in the picture.

Connect the battery and enjoy the result:

How to use cruise (cruise control) on Estim:
After starting the engine, press the ON/OFF button on the control stick and turn on cruise. The green light on the panel will light up.
Start driving as usual, the cruise does not show itself yet. Having reached the desired speed, lower the handle down (SET) and you can release the gas pedal. Any application of the brake or gas will pause cruise action and to return to the last set speed, move the stick up (RES). Cancels speed settings and stops cruise control by moving the knob toward you (CANCEL).

With active cruise, it is possible to control the speed of movement. Without touching the gas pedal, pull the handle up (+). The speed will increase until you release the handle. Down (-) - the speed will decrease.

Be careful not to lose the springs located inside.
  • Disconnect the connectors using wrench 19. Unscrew the fastening nut and remove the steering wheel.
  • Remove the blue wire from the white connector using an awl or scissors, and release the retaining clips. The removed wire is inserted into the cruise control lever connector.
  • When we finish connecting the lever, we begin to change the casing. For this purpose, the old casing is removed (the four screws on the steering wheel are unscrewed) and the plastic clamps are tightened. A new decorative element is installed in place.
  • The new trim is screwed to the steering wheel. The handle is pulled out through a slot in the casing and secured with two screws.
  • Reassembly is carried out in reverse order. Don't forget to secure the blue wire with clamps. Relying on the marks, install the steering wheel. The connectors are connected and the airbag is put into place.
  • When the assembly is completed, the battery is connected in driving mode on a flat road without obstacles. The result obtained should be checked.
