The best sights of Stuttgart with photos and descriptions. Science and education, scientific and technical centers

Attracting travelers with a harmonious combination of medieval architecture with picturesque natural landscapes. The most famous sights of the city are the museums of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

In addition, Stuttgart is located 100 kilometers from the world famous resort Baden-Baden, which also contributes to the influx of tourists. And in the spring, lovers of German festivals come here from all over the world for the annual Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest.

Architectural sights of Stuttgart with photos and descriptions

To experience the spirit of a European city, tourists usually first go to the central square. In Stuttgart it Schlossplatz. It is beautiful both day and night, so you can come here at any time of the day to relax on a bench or on a lawn and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of the city to the sound of a fountain. Near the square there is a metro station and many attractions: an opera, a cinema, several museums, a monastery church. As in most cities, there are Christmas markets and various festivals. From the Schlossplatz the longest pedestrianized street Germany - Koenigstrasse with many shops, beer pubs, cafes and restaurants.

The main architectural attraction of the square is Neues Schloss, built in the second half of the 18th - early 19th centuries. Initially, the palace served as the residence of the Württemberg dukes and kings, now the government offices of Baden-Württemberg are here. During the war, the New Castle was almost completely destroyed, but in the second half of the 50s it was restored. Here is also old lock(Altes Schloss), erected in the second half of the 16th century and also beautifully restored after the war.
20 minutes walk from central square there is another iconic architectural landmark of Stuttgart - Johanneskirche on Feuerseeplatz. This is a beautiful Gothic cathedral surrounded by a lake with an unfinished tower, which, according to the architect's idea, symbolizes the infinity of being and the infinity of knowledge. The church looks especially beautiful in the reflection of the water, in which swans proudly swim. The brightly lit cathedral looks no less majestically at night.

Among other picturesque architectural structures of Stuttgart, one can also distinguish the following:

  • Schloss Solitude;
  • Grabcapelle;
  • Baerenschloessle (Bear Castle);
  • Stiftskirche (Monastery Church).

Museums in Stuttgart

As stated, for many of the visiting tourists, Stuttgart's main attraction is its car museums. But even if you are not a fan of cars, you will be interested in visiting them, if only for the sake of old rare cars.

Mercedes-Benz Museum

First of all, it is worth saying that the building itself, built in 2006, is an excellent example of modern architecture. The concept of the internal structure is also interesting: the stairs are made in the form of a DNA chain. Visitors take the elevator up and go down one of the spiral staircases, examining the exhibits.

The museum displays about 1,500 vehicles that show the 120-year history of the factory and the evolution of Mercedes-Benz. If you are interested in the history of the creation of a particular car, you can watch a short video. In addition, the booths display a variety of automotive attributes, such as driving gloves, car emblems, hubcaps, wheels, etc. Particular attention is paid to the racing history of the automaker, and for only 4 euros, you can “ride” a very realistic Formula 1 simulator . And thanks to fast wi-fi, you can transfer numerous photos immediately to the "cloud" without overloading the phone's memory. And of course, a traditional souvenir shop and cafe.

The entrance fee is 8 euros (4 euros for children). Open daily except Monday from 9:00 to 18:00 (ticket office until 17:00).

Porsche Museum

This museum has fewer exhibits than the Mercedes-Benz Museum. However, here they talk in more detail about each model, with a special emphasis on the operation of the engine, and there are also interesting installations of individual parts. In general, a paradise for a car mechanic.

Two more advantages over the previous museum are fewer tourists, as well as the opportunity to sit inside the car and take pictures in its salon, having received a photo to the email address you specified. There is also an excellent restaurant and coffee shop with good prices.

In addition to automobile museums, there are several other museums in Stuttgart, none of which will leave you indifferent:

  • Alte Staatsgalerie. Picture gallery with works by Rembrandt, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, Peter Paul Rubens, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and others;
  • Neue Staatsgalerie. Art gallery with works by Salvador Dali, Wassily Kandinsky, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and others;
  • Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. An art gallery with a focus on the work of contemporary artists;
  • Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart, SMNS (Natural History Museum);
  • Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg (Museum of the History of Baden-Württemberg);
  • Linden-Museum Stuttgart (ethnographic museum);
  • Weinbaumuseum (Wine Museum);
  • Schweine-Museum (Pig Museum);
  • Spielkartenmuseum (Museum of playing cards).

Where to go in Stuttgart with children

Of all the park attractions of Stuttgart and its environs, it is worth highlighting in the first place Zoologisch-Botanischer Garten Wilhelma Stuttgart. This is a botanical and zoological garden, which presents more than 10 thousand animals and plants. The best time to visit this wonderful place is in the spring when the magnolias are in bloom. Although you can admire the flowers at any time of the year in the greenhouse. Special attention deserves an aquarium and a garden with fountains, next to which peacocks walk.

So make sure you have enough space on the memory card of your phone or camera.

Be sure to also visit Killesberg Park. Here you can not only have a pleasant rest in the shade of trees, take a walk along the bright flower beds and near the lake, lie down on the emerald lawn, but also go around the entire park on a small train, which brings children to sincere delight.

Important! The steam locomotive runs on real coal, so try not to wear light-colored clothes for a walk in Killesberg Park.

Also, your child will be able to ride a carousel and feed the goats, ponies and ducks. But for a more vibrant park experience, be sure to check out Killesbergturm. This is a 40-meter open screw tower with several viewing platforms with stunning views.

If you love nature, then in the plan of what you can see in Stuttgart and the surrounding area, include Weissenburg Park. This park is located on a hill with a stunning panorama of the city. The main attraction of Weissenburg Park is Teehaus, a cozy cafe where you can have a delicious lunch while enjoying Stuttgart from above.

  • Wonnemar Marktheidenfeld playground with a pool, slides, swings and labyrinths;
  • Tripsdrill theme park. 40 km from the center of Stuttgart is the town of Klebron, where children can plunge into the atmosphere of German traditions, walk around the village, ride on carousels and slides, and have a delicious lunch in a cafe.

What to see in Stuttgart in 1 day

On your first day a tourist route you can start from the east of Stuttgart, moving through the sights towards the center:

It is worth saying here that the Botanical Garden is located near Stuttgart Airport, so if you did not arrive by plane and have not yet seen this park, then the route of the second day can be built from south to west, then north and end in the city center:

  • Stuttgart Wilhelm Zoo;
  • take a ride up the Stuttgart hills on the Standseilbahn Stuttgart funicular;
  • Porsche Museum;
  • Bear Palace and Schloss Solitude, located close to each other;
  • Höhenpark Killesberg;
  • visit the museums Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and Linden-Museum Stuttgart.

Video of the beautiful sights of Stuttgart in Germany. Great viewing!

You can include in one of your itineraries a "round the world" trip around Stuttgart along the cog railway Stuttgart Rack Railway. And if the local football club Stuttgart plays on that day, be sure to go to Mercedes Benz Arena, which in itself is an interesting tourist attraction. Even if you are not a fan, you will get unforgettable impressions from the very atmosphere of a football holiday. Just in case, first check with your neighbor, “in what form do ours play?”

Stuttgart is very cozy and interesting tourist town where you can have a good time at any time of the year.

But if you have the opportunity, come here on the twentieth of December to get to the bright and cheerful Christmas Market, and in the spring visit the analogue of Oktoberfest - Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest. A sea of beer and delicious meats, cheerful, groovy music and a friendly international atmosphere will make you a frequent visitor to Stuttgart.

In my opinion, Stuttgart is real in miniature. If you want to see moderne Industriestadt (modern working quarters), business centers, half-timbered houses (frame houses, which you probably met somewhere in Germany, Poland, Belgium or Holland), and Renaissance, classicism architecture in one day , and German vineyards, and to see businessmen dining on the grass, you are here. In general, Stuttgart, the capital of the state, seems to me a reflection of Germany: it is truly German.

All the guidebooks say it's "extraordinary green City”, but, to be honest, it seems so only from a bird's eye view, and then due to the vineyards and hills with which it is surrounded. On the central streets, especially in the Old Town, there is not much more greenery than in Düsseldorf or Cologne. Maybe we thought so because we went to Stuttgart from a very small student Tübingen (45 kilometers to it), of course, shrouded in greenery, like all small towns.

Stuttgart is unique in that you can choose a landmark for the mood with which you woke up: if you want - look at Rembrandt, if you want - at the Mercedes Museum, if you want - sit with a cup of coffee near the Hegel Museum and think about reason and reality, and in the evening drink yourself a beer with bretzels.

How to get there

Of course, the most reasonable way to get to Stuttgart from any city in Russia (except, perhaps, Kaliningrad) is by plane. However, those who are afraid to fly or save money have the opportunity to take a bus from Moscow, find fellow travelers with their own transport, or use the railway (which is much less convenient).

Moving within the country: if you are traveling in Germany and have enough time, I advise you to use land transport: bus or train to see the whole country (only ranks 62nd in the world in terms of territory, which means moving will seem insignificant). Otherwise, you can use domestic flights: fly on a small buzzing (you won’t be able to sleep, and you won’t have time) airplane.

By plane

There are direct flights to Stuttgart only from Moscow: the flight lasts about 3.5 hours. From other Russian cities, Aeroflot offers connecting flights with transfers in the capital.

From Moscow

Carriers change regularly, as do ticket prices. The cheapest direct flights at the moment offers Aeroflot: about 155 EUR (10 000 RUB) one way, regardless of the season.

Truly cheap flights offered by the largest Greek carrier Aegean Airlines, but usually with a very long transfer in Athens (spend about a day on the way!). But the price, on average, is 60 EUR (4,000 RUB) lower than that of Aeroflot.

Even last year, there were no flight offers from Stuttgart from the Greek airline, and two years ago Aeroflot did not make direct flights, and we had to fly through. So I highly recommend to stay tuned. It is convenient to watch offers using special aggregator sites that you all probably know, or.

From St. Petersburg

If you are flying from St. Petersburg, it is wiser to take advantage of the offer Aeroflot. The Russian carrier offers connecting flights, so you will definitely not have any difficulties with a flight from Moscow, even if the flight between two Russian cities is delayed.

In addition, you will spend about 7-8 hours on the way, while planning your own connection (between flights of two different airlines), you will allow more time for unforeseen circumstances. Such a flight will cost 206 EUR (12,000 RUB) in economy class.

There is only one airport in Stuttgart and it has an excellent electronic portal to help tourists, where you can:

  1. check the flight schedule;
  2. find out the phone numbers of the services of interest;
  3. get background information;
  4. find a map of the airport or the required location (a specific cafe, check-in counter, smoking room, etc.).

The only disadvantage of the site: despite the fact that it can be opened in English version, the cards remain with German inscriptions. But Google translator or Yandex will solve your problem.

How to get from the airport to the center

In fact, Stuttgart Airport is very small, and it will not be difficult to navigate the place, there are signs everywhere.

I did not need to use the site, although it may be calmer for someone.

Website search example:

From the airport to the main station (Hauptbahnhof) electric train(S-bahn), tickets for it are easy to get on arrival at the terminal. By the way, if group rates apply to it, you can team up with other tourists.

Trains run every 20 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends. Expect to spend about half an hour on the way. If you arrive at night, pay attention to the fact that the S-bahn operates almost like the Moscow metro: the last train leaves at 00:00, and the morning on the Stuttgart railway starts at 5:00.

You can also get from the airport by bus or by taxi. Buses run near the exits from the arrivals area, and since their schedule is related to the arrival of aircraft, you will surely catch one that will take you to the right part of the city. Upon arrival in Stuttgart, we went straight to, so we took route number 828. If you don’t know how to ask where the bus goes or just don’t know which part of Stuttgart you need, go to Hauptbahnhof, it is located almost in the very center and From there it is convenient to start an overview of the city.

If you are going to go by taxi, there is no need to call a car in advance, unless you need additional equipment such as a child seat. Taxis are on duty at the exits at any time of the day, and the cost (about 10 EUR to the city center) is fixed, that is, it will not depend on whether you ordered a car in advance or agreed on the spot.

Be careful! We practically did not see large cars, like minibuses, which means that if you are traveling in a large group, it will be cheaper to call a car. It will cost you about 15 EUR (more budget than two small sedans).

By train

From Moscow

There are no direct trains from the capital to Stuttgart. There are two options offered by railroad sites:

  1. route with a change in Paris (on the way for a day or 1.5 days, depending on the chosen time, several trains depart from Belorussky railway station);
  2. a direct flight to Frankfurt am Main (on the way a little more than a day, the cost is about 100 EUR (6,800 RUB)).

In the first case, you arrive in Stuttgart right at the Hauptbahnhof (read, to the city center), but you have a connecting train in Paris, which, of course, is not very convenient. In the second case, you will have to travel around Germany for about 200 km (respectively, if you travel by S-bahn, you get the same transfer.

According to one of the train ticket search engines, there are Express train No. 23, which runs only 10 hours, and the price for it is 2 thousand less.

From St. Petersburg

Residents of the northern capital are also offered to travel on the same train: a trip by rail with a transfer in Moscow will cost them 114 EUR (7,000 RUB) (including all fees).

Unfortunately, Petersburgers are not offered a trip to Stuttgart itself with one change (for example, in Paris). You will have to get through Moscow or Orsha (the train journey takes 1 day 12 hours) and you can only get to Frankfurt.

How to get from the station to the center

Stuttgart's main railway station is located in the city centre, north of historical center, where all the museums and other Sehenswürdigkeiten (that is, "attractions") are located.

From the station along Königstrasse you can get directly to the main Palace Square, it takes about 7 minutes to walk.

tourist streets

Stuttgart is not one of those cities in which tourist streets form separate routes along which you can walk all day long. This is an ordinary German city with two good museums. If you are interested in the city center, then here it is on the map:

What to see in 1 day

When choosing attractions that are worth a visit, I am guided by three principles:

  1. Uniqueness (Choose what I will not see anywhere else in the world. The Wine Museum is great, but winemaking in Germany, isn't it a joke? I wish everyone to visit the plantations of Spain, where in almost every province you can enjoy excellent wine and listen to a wonderful tour in local museum winemaking).
  2. "Business card" (You must definitely visit the object that is depicted on postcards, like eiffel tower or Cologne Cathedral).
  3. The value of the exposition (between an art gallery with a good collection and a house-museum, I choose a gallery, because the life of all writers and thinkers of the same era is identical (no offense to the museums of Hegel in Stuttgart, Beethoven in Bonn, etc.), but on understanding Beethoven's music or Hegel's conclusions, visiting the apartment will have little effect.

Food. What to try

Since Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg, the national Swabian dishes that you can try there are common throughout the land:

Intermediate level

In Stuttgart, you can find mid-range restaurants with both European and traditional cuisine. Such establishments (except pubs) usually open in the morning, unlike expensive restaurants where you can only dine. Lunch here will cost you 10-15 EUR, dinner - 20 EUR.

  • pub Gaststatte zum Paulaner(Calwerstrasse, 45, Rotebühlplatz U-bahn station, city center). I have been here and would come back again. Paulaner beer is a Bavarian brand and this restaurant is a typical German brasserie. But, if you came to Germany for a short time or are not going to go further to Munich, you should definitely come here. You can try local Swabian beer in any cafe in the city, and here you will be served a wonderful Bavarian drink and a set of traditional Swabian dishes: cabbage with veal sausages, knuckle or potato salad, in a word, the choice is very rich. Prices are more than moderate (about 20 EUR per dinner), the audience is mostly German, often local, there is always not enough space. The waiters speak poor English, but you always have the option of pointing your finger at the menu.
  • Brenner(Brennerstr., 5.) A small, very cozy restaurant with good German cuisine, the main disadvantage is a very small selection of dishes. The price of lunch is about 10 EUR.
  • Der rote Hirsch(Marktstr., 46 (Canstatt)) Restaurant with local cuisine. I've only heard positive things about this place.
  • Pizzeria Restaurant FUXXE(Fuchswaldstr., 56) An Italian restaurant where the food is as good as in Italy. Ideal for those who are tired of the local color.

Expensive

There are many good restaurants in the city, and each entices you with either a stunning view or original local cuisine. If you walk around and try the same traditional dish in different restaurants, you will realize that it is not so “traditional” because they cook it differently everywhere (yes, including potato salad). But I would advise asking for a dish from the chef, or " business card”of a particular institution, because “something national” is served here without stopping to a large flow of tourists, and this way you will have the opportunity to taste something new.

  • cube(Kleiner Schlossplatz, 1) The restaurant on Palace Square, with a gorgeous view of the Zemsky Assembly building, is located on the roof of the Museum of Modern Art (on the top floor of a glass building). Perfect panorama in good weather. The place is perfect for captivating a companion. Local and European cuisine.
  • Weinstube Am Stadtgraben(Stadtgraben, 6) My favorite local restaurant in the Bad Cannstadt area. (The name of the restaurant is enough for the taxi driver to take you where you need to go). There are two important points:
    1. the institution opens only at 18:00, so you won’t be able to dine here;
    2. table in holidays need to book a couple of days in advance. But it's really delicious here!
  • Zum Ackerbuerger(Spreuergasse, 38) An old-fashioned restaurant with a traditional flavor, also open only for dinner (at 18:00). Expect to spend around 40 EUR here and the whole evening.
  • Wielandshohe(Alte Weinsteige, 71) Interesting restaurant on the hillside (only minus: far from the center, but there is free parking in case you come with your car. But it's better not to do this, as excellent wine is served here :). Opening hours: from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00.

For dinner in one of the establishments of this class, you will give from 30 EUR to infinity.

Holidays

Big festivals are held here twice a year: in the fall a beer festival, and in the spring a spring festival. These days one wonders how such a comparatively small town can accommodate so many guests. Every autumn about 4 million people come to the holiday (for comparison, the population of Germany: 81 million, which means, conditionally, every twentieth inhabitant of Germany comes here in early October).

locals and the authorities are very proud of the long tradition of festivals. There is even one that counts down the days until the start of the holiday.

Security. What to watch out for

Stuttgart - very quiet city despite being big.

The German metro, unlike the Spanish one, does not have a particularly large number of thefts, although I urge you to be vigilant, especially on festival days. (However, I am describing the situation at the beginning of 2014 and cannot say exactly how it has changed in last years, in connection with the ongoing policy of accepting refugees).

Things to do

Tourists come here primarily because of the museums of world brands of cars, but if you have a lot of free time, you can find some entertainment. Although, to be honest, it's not very simple: Stuttgart is an ordinary German city with a standard set of entertainment.

Shopping and shops

If you have already walked around the city and seen enough sights, go to Markthalle- an indoor food market with a century of history, located in the center of Stuttgart (next to Marktplatz and Markzstrasse).

I advise you to visit it not only for those who stay in apartments and have their own kitchen, but also for all lovers of sweets, as well as for those who have been traveling around Germany for a long time and are already tired of German cuisine. Here you can find a wide variety of delicacies (from pasta to baklava), as well as fresh fruits and vegetables of excellent quality.

Prices are slightly higher than in regular supermarkets, but it's worth it. From Monday to Friday, the market is open from 7:30 to 18:00, on Saturday from 7:00 to 17:00, Sunday is a day off (regardless of the season).

Bars. Where to go

Bars are very popular in Germany, much more so than nightclubs. Finding them is not difficult: there are a lot of them in the city center and on the outskirts.

In my opinion, the most interesting and noteworthy bar Sky Beach Stuttgart. This is a small beach with sun loungers in the heart of the city near the main station. In the evening, you can enjoy beautiful skies and great drinks here.

The place is open during the summer season from 12:00. The average cost of drinks will be 15 EUR.

Clubs and nightlife

Residents prefer bars to nightclubs in Stuttgart. However, lovers of clubbing can be recommended Club Grace on the outskirts of the city (U-bahn Salzäcker), near SI-Erlebnis-Centrum Stuttgart ( entertainment center where you can also have a great evening with family or friends). By the way, there are very good hotels nearby.

However, all the youth of Stuttgart gathers, as a rule, in the city center, more precisely on Theodor-Heuss-Straße: in a place with the highest concentration of bars and clubs working around the clock.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

How to move around the city

It is most convenient to move around the city by metro (U-Bahn or S-Bahn), the fare system and fares are the same as throughout Germany.

A taxi ride will cost you about 10 EUR to any part of the city. Read more about taxis in Germany.

The best way to get around the Old Town is on foot or by bike. And if you are going to see a lot in a day, buy a one-day ticket (Tagesticket) and travel by bus. By excursion routes there are a lot of them walking around.

Transport rental

Renting a car will cost you 20–25 EUR/day in the season and about 15 EUR/day in the winter. Rental prices at the airport and in the city itself are about the same, but still a little more expensive at the airport.

You only need a driver's license to rent a car (although it's a good idea to have your passport with you just in case. In some places you need it to conclude a contract). An international driver's license is not required to be issued separately: standard Russian documents operate in Germany.

But if you are under 20 years old, be prepared for the fact that the price may become higher. Young people are considered to be at risk. But I have never heard of a rent being denied.

If you are coming for a long time, I advise you to ask the hotel for a good rental office. You can familiarize yourself with offers from international rental companies.

As a rule, in the city you can rent bicycles, scooters, motorcycles. I have never rented a car in Stuttgart, but I am sure that the process is no different from other cities. By the way, sometimes bicycles are rented at hotels.

  1. The museums "Mercedes" and "Porsche" paid parking (1 EUR - the first hour, 2 EUR - subsequent).
  2. During the day, there are traffic jams in the city, but they are not comparable to those in Moscow (rather of the St. Petersburg format).
  3. In the Old Town, of course, you will have to do without a car.
  4. The cost of gasoline is the same as throughout Germany: today it is about 1.4 EUR per liter.

Stuttgart - holidays with children

Whether to take children with you depends on whether you are going to go on holidays or just walk around the city. Automobile museums will be very interesting for both boys and girls: you can touch everything, climb everywhere. For the sake of these two places, it is worth going to Stuttgart with children, otherwise, it is just a German city with a typical interactive activity aimed at different audiences: for children - the Pig Museum, for adults - winemaking.

If you are going to go on holidays, I do not recommend taking children with you. Of course, there is Frulingfest fun and a lot of rides, but also a lot of all kinds of music, beer and students having fun.

For a purposeful visit with children, I would choose where you can go to Fantasyland.

One of the largest industrial centers in Germany, the city of Stuttgart is known throughout the world as the cradle of auto giants Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. But not only the production of the best cars determines the exclusivity of the metropolis. In his appearance there are many features that have signs of superlatives:

The city is considered the greenest in Europe, is characterized by the highest level of prosperity in Germany, its the main street Königstrasse is the longest pedestrian zone in Germany, reserves of medical mineral water Cannstatt complex is the largest in Western Europe, the city's planetarium is the most technically equipped in the world, and the Stuttgart State Theater is the largest in Europe. In the metropolis, everything is presented at the highest level, whether it be museums, cuisine, shopping or cultural life.

The city of "superlatives" is the capital of Baden-Württemberg, in southwestern Germany. It was founded at the end of the 10th century, when the Swabian Duke Liudolf built a stud farm on the site of the current industrial center. Thanks to this fact, a magnificent horse flaunts on the coat of arms of Stuttgart. If we remember in what units the power of car engines is measured, the image can be considered not only a historical, but also a modern symbol of the city.

Stuttgart is located in the valley of the Neckar river and is surrounded by hills covered with dense forests. Huge area "green lungs" provide a clean breath of the metropolis, and the hilly terrain creates a mild and warm microclimate in which the grapes ripen perfectly. The products of its processing, including the famous Trollinger, can be tasted at the end of August, when the city hosts a grandiose wine festival - Weindorf.

Stuttgart positions itself as the automobile capital, starting from the Main Station: tourists are greeted by a huge dome with a turret crowned with the famous Mercedes star.

The historical sights of the city open to the eye on the Schlossplatz square, where the Jubilee Column is installed, which immortalized in 1841 the 25th anniversary of the reign of King Wilhelm I.

On the south side of the square is the Old Castle, which was built in the XIV century and served as the residence of the Württemberg dukes and counts. Today it houses the Württemberg Museum, whose expositions are devoted to archaeological finds, the history of costume, luxury goods, icon painting, and sculpture.

Nearby are the New Castle - a magnificent example of the 18th century Baroque - and Royal Palace second half of the XIX century, built in the style of classicism.

The historical architectural symbol of Stuttgart is monastery church, known since the XII century and characterized by the heterogeneity of the towers. The Old National Gallery of the city contains works of art from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, and the New National Gallery presents a collection of contemporary creations, including a unique collection of paintings by Picasso.

Not to be missed in Stuttgart are the Rosenstein Palace, Solitude Castle, the Wilhelm Zoo and Botanical Garden with over 10,000 species of fauna and flora, and the Mercedes-Benz Automobile Museum.

Stuttgart has another characteristic feature - musical. Bach International Academy, a chamber orchestra, a philharmonic society, various pop groups and jazz ensembles are integral touches of his image. Music is always heard here, which, like everything else in this city, is excellent.

How can I save up to 20% on hotels?

Stuttgart (Germany) is one of the largest industrial, innovative, trade, transport and cultural centers of the country, the capital of Baden-Württemberg. The city is known throughout the world as the headquarters of such iconic car brands as Mercedes and Porsche. In addition, it is located in the heart of the wine-growing region, where the most beautiful landscapes will impress every traveler. In this article you will find the most interesting information about Stuttgart (attractions, history, entertainment).

From the history of the city

Even in the middle of the X century. on the territory of modern Stuttgart, the son of Otto I (Holy Roman Emperor) founded a stud farm. For several centuries it was one of the largest trading centers of the state. Over time, the settlement that arose around the plant passed into the jurisdiction of the Macgraves of Baden. At the beginning of the XIII century. Stuttgart was given city status. In 1442, under the Treaty of Nürtinger, it became the capital of the Württemberg lands. During the peasant uprising of 1525, the Thirty Years' War of 1618-1648. and the War of the Palatinate Succession, the welfare of the city suffered greatly. The revival of the former power of the city takes place already in the post-Napoleonic period. During this time, it developed primarily as a cultural and educational center. In 1887, the Daimler Motors Society was founded in the suburbs of Stuttgart. A few years later, the production of Mercedes cars began on its basis. During the Second World War, the city of Stuttgart survived more than 50 bombings.

Castles of Stuttgart

Stuttgart, whose castles impress with their grandeur and rich history, is a favorite destination for adventurers from all over the world.

The Old Castle is located on the Palace Square of the city. Ever since the beginning of the XIV century. this building played the role of the residence of the rulers of the Württemberg lands. In the middle of the XV century. the castle was rebuilt, as a result of which the composition acquired a Renaissance look. Today the palace has been restored and is open to tourists. The building houses the Museum of Württemberg. Its collection includes materials from prehistoric times, the Roman and medieval eras, as well as the new and recent period.

Another beautiful complex is located not far from the Old Palace. This is the New Castle - the former residence of the Württemberg rulers, built in the Baroque style. Today, its building houses the ministries of culture and finance of the federal state, whose capital is Stuttgart.

Not far from the Old Castle is the Royal Palace - a beautiful building built in the style of early classicism.

Museums in Stuttgart

In addition to castles, Stuttgart (Germany) is famous for its museums. There are more than 11 of them in the city! We will talk about the most famous of them.

The Old State Gallery is the main museum of German Stuttgart. Her collection includes the greatest works of art of all time. Among them are the works of such masters as Rubens, Beuys, Monet, Renoir, Rembrandt. Not far from this museum is the building of the New State Gallery.

State Museum natural history located in picturesque park Rosenstein. Excellent biological and paleontological collections of the 16th century have been preserved here. Today, the museum has more than 11 million exhibits, among which there are dinosaur skeletons and monuments of primitive art.

The most visited in the city are the technical museums of Stuttgart, which belong to the companies "Mercedes" and "Porsche". And this is not surprising, because the city is considered the birthplace of the car. It was here that G. Daimler and F. Porsche launched the most important technical solutions of the last century.

Things to see in Stuttgart

The cathedral church is a unique monument of the turn of the 10th-11th centuries.
