Until 1950, the Petrodvortsovy District Court of St. Petersburg was called the People's Court of the 2nd section of the Krasnoselsky District, which was formed on the basis of the Order of the Department of the Ministry of Justice under the Leningrad City Executive Committee dated April 20, 1946. It should be noted that in Soviet society the court was viewed only as a body designed to protect socialist society, the state and citizens from unlawful actions, while due importance was not given to the responsibility of the state to its citizens.
On December 12, 1993, the Constitution of the Russian Federation was adopted by popular vote, which established, among other things, new principles for the administration of justice in the country.
