Mokhov Mountains are one of the most picturesque places of the Nizhny Novgorod region. But besides its natural beauty, this place on the steeply sandy river bank under the shadow of age-old pines is noteworthy and its history. But about all the order.

Mokhovy Mountains are the ridge of dune communities stretching from the southeastern outskirts of the city of Bohr to the village of Oktyabrsky. The height of the hills is at least 50 meters from the Volga level. They received their name from MCH, which are abundantly covered. Otherwise, this place was also called the Fofanov Mountains (from the word "Fofan" - a fool, a prostacle) - this name spoke about the frivolousness of these mountains, compared with the Dyatlovaya mountains on the opposite bank. Archaeologists have discovered on these sandy dunes traces of a person's stay from the time of Neolith and until the habitat of the Finno-Ugric tribes here.

However, great fame of the moss mountains received as a place of recreation of two celebrities of the world size - Maxim Gorky and Fedor Shalyapin. Gorky first visited here in 1900, when he came to swim in the country to his familiar architect Malinovsky and his wife Elena Konstantinovna. At that time, a country village grew up in this place, in which the Nizhny Novgorod intelligentsia loved to rest. The next summer, resting on the Mokhov Mountains, Gorky arrived already with his family - wife, two children, grandmother and nanny. They settled them again at the cottage in Malinovsky. In 1902, Fedor Shalyapin arrived at Nizhny Novgorod with tour, he also visited the Dacha of Malinovsky at the invitation of Gorky, with which he was a close friend. Here, over the Volga expanses, Shalyapin sang for his friends who gathered at the "Country Concert".

In memory of this remarkable fact, on the coastal slope, the monument to the two great people of the Silver Century was established on the site of the former legendary cottage of Malinovsky in 2012 - the writer Maxim Gorky and singer Fedor Shalyapin. The monument in the form of two bronze figures was performed on the layout of the Nizhny Novgorod sculptor Alexander Gorshkov. Nearby have several viewing sites with benches from where you can admire the beautiful views of Nizhny Novgorod. Here, every year at the beginning of the fall, the High Music Festival "Shalyapinsky Meetings" is held.

In addition to Gorky and Shalyapin, the villagers at the Mokhovaya mountains visited the publicist Chirikov, writer Melnikov-Pechersky, photographer Dmitriev, historian Bogdanovich and many other famous people.

Moss mountains are a suitable place for both active recreation lovers. In winter, there are especially many fans of ski tracks and those who want to ride standing on standing and sledding.
