Which, in fact, is not at all surprising, because this wondrous country was able to preserve for us many valuable historical monuments, and a warm welcome local residents will certainly delight everyone, without exception.

Model of the old airport

It is much easier and more convenient for Russian travel lovers to get to Armenia using the services of air carriers. After all, it is the plane that will deliver its passengers to the territory ancient country for a short period. Zvartnots airport of Armenia greets its guests... His IATA code is EVN. Online scoreboard of Yerevan airport:

The history of the development of the air harbor

The air pier began its history in the distant 70s of the last century. Back then, the government Soviet Union decided to organize competitive tours, the essence of which was to find the best project for the new air complex. Initially, the architects presented the project as a three-dimensional, slightly elongated structure. However, having started the direct work, it was decided to use a completely new project - a round terminal.

Construction work was carried out in short time... The unusual design airline complex, which was given a consonant name with the famous Yerevan temple, began serving its first passengers in 1980. The cargo terminal was built and put into operation after 8 years.

In 2001, by order of the Armenian government, it was decided to lease the air pier for 30 years to Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. At the beginning of 2014, construction began on a new terminal for servicing international flights, which began operating in 2017.

Air harbor today

The only civil air berth in the Republic of Armenia is the Zvartnots air terminal. The old terminal, as we noted earlier, has round shape that looks like alien saucers. You can see the photos below.

The size of the base corresponds to the area of 2 football fields. In the center of the terminal there is a room with a dispatch service and a modern restaurant. In the above premises, panoramic windows with a view of the runway are provided.

The old airline complex was deservedly considered the real pride of the ancient republic. However, the current owners were still forced to make a decision to close it in 2011 and to build a new terminal in close proximity to the old.

The new terminal was put into operation just in time for the 20th anniversary of the independence of the Armenian republic. Official website of Yerevan Airport:www.zvartnots.am, which everyone can visit at any time... Having familiarized themselves with the online scoreboard of the Yerevan airport, passengers will be able to know for sure whether the desired plane is on time for the flight or how long the departure is delayed.

When creating a new terminal, the architects wanted to create a structure that has no analogue. And they, of course, managed to translate their idea into reality. After all, the first impression that everyone gets when entering new airport- a feeling of unprecedented volume and space.

Such impressions are created thanks to the unusual walls and roof, which it was decided to build from a solid glass base. When designing the airline, all previously approved international standards were taken into account. Therefore, passengers will be able to take advantage of the full range of services that will help make the waiting time more comfortable and convenient. The pier is only 10 km away from the central part of the Armenian capital.

International airport "Zvartnots"(arm. Զվարթնոց Միջազգային Օդանավակայան ; IATA: EVN, ICAO: UDYZ) - international Airport Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Located in the west of the city in the Malatia-Sebastia region, near the town of Zvartnots, 12 km west of Yerevan. Zvartnots Airport is the main international transport hub in Armenia and the busiest airport in the country.

History

On the left is the building of the old terminal (no longer in use) and the new arrivals hall (on the right) in 2007

In 1970, an open competition for architectural projects was held. The first prize was awarded to designer S. Baghdasaryan and a group of architects, which included A. Tarkhanyan, S. Khachikyan, J. Shekhlyan, L. Cherkezyan. Later the project was modified with the participation of architects A. Tigranyan and A. Meschyan. In the 1980s, the airport was renovated and more terminals were added to accommodate the increased passenger traffic within the Soviet Union.

When Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, freight traffic increased. And in 1998, a new cargo terminal was opened with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo per year.

The airport is designed to serve large aircraft such as An-225, Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A380.

On January 30, 2013, at the competition held by the Arabian Reach organization in Dubai, UAE, Zvartnots airport was awarded the title “ Best airport CIS and Baltic states ".

Extension

In 2004, construction began on a new terminal at a cost of $ 100 million. The terminal area is 19,200 m², the throughput capacity is 2 million passengers per year. The terminal building was constructed as part of an airport management agreement.

On September 14, 2006, a new arrivals hall was opened and a new international hall was opened on June 1, 2007.

An additional investment of $ 100 million was distributed through 2010. The development of the airport over the next 30 years will cost 164 million euros, of which more than 70 million euros has already been spent on the first phase - an extension of 19,200 m2 and renovation of about 45,000 m2.

At the end of the first phase, the airport will boast a 54,000 m2 runway and a 45,000 m2 building, of which 25,000 m2 is occupied by the new terminal. A new parking area with a capacity of 1000 cars was built. Many international airlines have launched flights from Zvartnots airport, connecting Yerevan with the whole world.

The arrival hall was doubled to accommodate over 1000 passengers per hour. Passenger traffic has been greatly simplified due to the expansion of the customs area. Waiting areas have been modernized, the airport provides free Wi-Fi on the territory of the new terminal, duty free shops operate and restaurants have been opened.

Landing strip 09/27 is equipped with a course-glide path system of the II category, which allows aircraft to approach with a low practical ceiling (30 meters) and poor visibility (350 meters).

During the modernization process, new warning displays were installed, automated system baggage check-in and a program for biometric control of passenger traffic. Access to the waiting room is protected by a three-stage security system: pre-control (boarding ticket), passport control and X-ray control. Until the summer of 2018, the fingerprints of all passengers were also monitored.

Terminals

Zvartnots airport consists of three terminals. Terminal 1, was built in 1971 and closed in 2011. Terminal 2 consists of two buildings - the arrivals hall, which has been operating since 2006, and the departure hall, which has been open since 2011. The exit from the airport is connected to the departure hall, where there are cafes, banks and an information desk for tourists. At the exit from the terminal there is a taxi rank and a three-storey car park, from which the road to the city begins.

What to do if your flight is canceled

If the flight is canceled more than 24 hours before departure, then passengers are transferred to similar flights of the airline. The costs are borne by the carrier, the service is free for the passenger. If none of the options offered by the airline suits you, most airlines can issue a “forced return”. After confirmation by the airline, the money will be returned to your account. This can sometimes take several weeks.

How to check in at the airport

Online check-in is available on the websites of most airlines. Most often it opens 23 hours before the start of the flight. You can pass it no later than 1 hour before the departure of the plane.

To check in at the airport you will need:

    • the identity card specified in the order,
    • birth certificate when flying with children,
    • printed itinerary receipt (optional).
  • What you can take with you on the plane

Carry-on baggage is items that you take with you on board the aircraft. Weight norm hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). The lady's bag is not considered as carry-on baggage and is carried freely.

The bag that you take with you on the plane should not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, or cosmetics. Alcohol from duty free shops can only be carried in sealed bags.

How to pay for baggage at the airport

If the weight of the baggage exceeds the norms established by the airline (most often - 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess weight. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid for separately as an additional service.

In this case, baggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print boarding pass, you can get it at the regular check-in counter of the airline, and check in and drop off your baggage there.

Where to find out the time of arrival if you are a greeter

You can find out the time of arrival of the aircraft on the airport's online scoreboard. The Tutu.ru website has an online scoreboard of the main Russian and foreign airports.

You can find out the number of the exit (gate) on the arrival board at the airport. This number is located next to the inbound flight information.
