Transport in Paphos. Buses: routes and tickets

Paphos International Airport is located in the western part of the island of Cyprus. This is a small airport, consisting of only one terminal, which is popular among low-cost airlines, among which the flagship of the market is Ryanair, for which this airport is a hub.

Paphos airport is preferred by tourists going to rest on West Coast Cyprus, mainly the city of Paphos, which is located 6.5 km from the airport.

It is also convenient for those passengers whose ultimate goal is another resort city - Limassol, located to the south. And all because the Paphos airport is much closer to Limassol than, which is considered the main one in Cyprus.

According to the classification of the International Air Transport Association, Paphos Airport has been assigned the code "PFO".

The official website of the airport is www.hermesairports.com/en/pafoshome.

From the airport to Paphos

With the exception of taxis, the only public transport linking Paphos Airport with other Cypriot cities is the bus. Passengers have several routes to choose from. By the way, if you need accommodation, we recommend using the search for cheap hotels in Paphos.

To get to the city of Paphos, you will need city bus number 612, the final stop of which is the bus station near the Paphos port. This is the heart of the Paphos tourist area, from here you can already walk to the hotel or transfer to another route (for example, No. 615 to be on the legendary Coral Bay beach). Route 612 departs towards the city every hour. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes.

Another city bus number 613 also goes to Paphos, but this route runs only twice a day and reaches the city center, where ordinary tourists usually do not need to.

Finding a bus stop is easy: right at the exit of the terminal (across the road) there is a parking lot for all bus routes and taxi services. The fare on city buses is only 1.5 euros. Tickets can be bought from the driver.

A taxi ride to Paphos will cost about 35 euros.

To find cheapest flights to paphos airport, it is better to use the international Skyscanner service, which will select the most successful options for you.

From Paphos airport to Limassol, Larnaca and other cities

If you need to leave Paphos Airport for Limassol, you can use the Limassol Airport Express buses, which depart towards the city 3-4 times a day. The fare is 9 euros for adults and 4 euros for children. Travel time is 50 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from the driver. See the schedule.

You can also get to Limassol by fixed-route taxis Travel Express. In this case, the trip will cost 12.40 euros per person. In addition, the minibuses of this company connect Paphos airport with Larnaca (including a stop at Larnaca airport), Ayia Napa, Protaras, Nicosia and others popular destinations. More detailed information on their website (http://www.travelexpress.com.cy/en-us/Fares).

Another option is the Kapnos Airport Shuttle buses, which will deliver to Larnaca and Nicosia for 15 euros. They leave several times a day. The journey will take one and a half hours. Details here - https://www.kapnosairportshuttle.com/fares?locale=en.

Went to the seashore - Petra Tou Romiou, the famous three stones lying in the water. Traveling by bus No. 631 will be comfortable and not tiring. Try it, you will definitely like it!

Start of the route - Kato Paphos

The journey starts from the final stop in Kato (lower) Paphos. Map of Kato Paphos: bus stop - E.

The bus makes several stops passing through the tourist area of Paphos (see Timetable and route map).

The bus runs strictly on schedule, 10 routes a day - this is quite enough to plan a small tourist adventure. A one-way ticket costs €1.5. There are usually enough empty seats in the cabin, and properly working air conditioners make the trip comfortable.

After making several stops in the tourist zone, you pass through the industrial zone and cross the city border. Outside the window, private houses, football fields, flower shops, vineyards, surrounded by greenery and flowers, float by. This is how the Cypriot outback lives.

The ancient city of Cyprus Kouklia

The bus makes a stop. The famous pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite was located here. In the 4th century, it was destroyed by an earthquake, and subsequently it was built nearby.

Aphrodite Hills Complex

The last turn, we drive into the Aphrodite Hills complex. A huge territory for comfortable living, recreation and entertainment: residential buildings, villas, apartments, a golf club with "velor", perfectly trimmed fields and bizarre sand traps, a hotel 5 stars, "village square" with cafes and restaurants, playground. Plan to spend some time here on your way back.

End of the route - Petra Tou Romiou ("Stones of Aphrodite")

In the meantime, we drive further to the final stop Petra Tou Romiou. The bus parks on the square, next to a kiosk cafe where you can visit the toilet or buy water (for lunch I recommend restaurants in Aphrodite Hills or Kato Paphos). The entire journey took about 45 minutes.

"Stones of Aphrodite" is a picturesque place where thousands of tourists flock every year. From the parking lot past the cafe, go down, from where a narrow tunnel under the road leads to the sea. Coming out of the stone vaults, you will find yourself on beautiful beach: here and there hearts are lined with pebbles - these are lovers and newlyweds leaving a memory of their visit romantic place. Here you can swim in the sea or just walk along the coast.

Antiquities of the old port

Returning back to Kato Paphos, be sure to go to the old port. Nearby is a museum open sky (map: C ), where archaeologists unearthed the remains ancient city I-II century AD. The lower parts of buildings, mosaics and some household items are perfectly preserved.

A visit to the archaeological park will take at least two hours. And next to it is the old port (map: D), which has not lost its main function so far: pretty fishing boats sway at the moorings, and the old fort is still protecting the city's water gates. Here, 10 beauties are swaying measuredly sailing yachts, owned by the company .

If from bus stop go up - in the opposite direction from the sea, then after half a kilometer you will see a strange sight: a tree with numerous pieces of cloth tied to the branches (map: F).

A powerful tree trunk goes down into the cave of the martyr Solomon. Here, in the 2nd century AD, during the bloody persecution, Christians hid, performing secret services.

Instead of the strange tradition of tying shreds to a tree, it is much better to sincerely pray to St. Solomon for your needs with the faith that the saints are still in heaven, hearing our requests.

Turning back to the sea, go 30 meters to the left - a parallel road leads down past the ancient square. A column has been preserved here, near which the holy Apostle Paul was scourged (map: A). The events of those distant days are mentioned in the book of Acts in the 13th chapter: the biblical city of Paphos was then the capital of Cyprus.

"Banya" (bath) and a cozy cafe

Going back to the sea and turning in the opposite direction from the old port - along the sea, you will come to famous place"Bath" (μπανια - Greek. Bathhouse, map: G). Here comfortable descent into the water, showers, changing rooms, interesting rocky bottom and curious marine inhabitants. Be sure to bring your mask and snorkel if you decide to swim here. And nearby is the Alea cafe (map: B) with friendly staff. From here you have an amazing view of the sea.

Sitting at, remember that it was here, in this very place, that life was in full swing two millennia ago: noisy teenagers, imposing visitors, tired locals. Here is the quintessence resort town, a special concentration of feelings, smells and emotions... This edge of the coast was the same century ago, and people also looked at the sea, one of the greatest beauties on earth. Sea and sunset, unique and mysterious, over and over again giving hope for a new day.

You can move around Paphos and the surrounding area by bus.

Here I will talk about the organization of our trip, give information and describe our movements by day. I hope that the Russians will still have the opportunity to travel to Cyprus, and all this will be useful to someone.

Nuances of choice When it became clear that there was a budget for the New Year's trip, we began to traditionally consider vacation options in the Mediterranean. Of the four options. Cyprus was the most calm and "lazy", and the least ... exciting and attractive, or something. The other three:
- Spain, a long-looked-for area between Barcelona and the Costa Bravo. I even chose a hotel and a direct flight for relatively sane money. Alas, I was scared away by the visa, or rather, the lack of time and desire to deal with it.
- Montenegro was rejected because of the cold and the very off-season.
- Israel gave very attractive prices for flights. And I wanted to go there more than to Cyprus and Spain together. But... I understood that this would require very serious planning and a lot of stress in the trip itself. There was no strength for it. And with great regret, Israel once again found itself on the list of "it would be nice someday."

Cyprus and Turkey. No, I'm not talking about the division of Cyprus, although this sore subject deserves a story. I'm talking about the ratio of these two countries as places of rest. Our vacation was similar to last year's (Kemer region) and comparisons suggested themselves.
Despite the fact that both times we had a great rest, our family was divided: I still preferred Turkey, due to the greater variety of mountain landscapes, my husband became a Cypriot lover. But in general, it is quite similar, and Cyprus seems to me an optimal replacement for closed Turkey: a similar climate, virtual visa-free travel, orientation towards Russians. True, small Cyprus is unlikely to withstand all lovers of Turkey :(
By prices. For 4 stars on breakfasts, in terms of dollars, we paid about 100-200 dollars more than a year ago for 5 Turkish stars on "all-inclusive" (I can't say exactly because of the jumping rates what then, what now). But a year ago they gave us a day of rest, gave us a 5% discount, settled in a room better than paid for (and we paid the cheapest) and we flew on a charter (by the way, we flew much better than Aeroflot). So the price is almost the same. A year ago, we had the first line by the sea, not the second, and Wi-Fi in the room, not in the lobby, breakfasts were a little more varied. I don't remember any other important differences.
The paradox is that we spent only 20 percent more on the spot than a year ago on all-inclusive. A year ago we took two expensive excursions, this year - one cheap one. So in the end the trip turned out to be the same price range (in USD). Another deldo that it is better not to count in rubles :(

Information and transport. Communication on the forum convinced me that the value of information from those who rent a car is close to zero, if not negative (they are sure that there is nothing to do in Cyprus without a car). It may also turn out to be inaccurate information from those who rested in the summer (in winter, 80% of cafes and restaurants are closed, and on the evening of January 1, everything seems to be closed).
So, in Cyprus there is an excellent bus service - fast and most importantly - strictly on schedule, which is on the Internet. Therefore, traveling around Cyprus is real and pleasant.
The only valuable source of information, other than descriptions of attractions, was a seven-part report on Cyprus Holidays: from Polis to Nicosia with accommodation in Paphos (the link leads to the author's profile, from where you can access all seven parts). There, the logistics of trips from Paphos without a car are described in great detail, as well as the main attractions; we managed much less than the author of these reviews (although she rested for three weeks).

There are two bus stations in Paphos - the Harbor (by the sea, in the tourist part, urban routes, as well as suburban ones along the sea) and Caravel (in upper Paphos, routes to the villages, to Polis, as well as interregional routes). Timetables need to be studied seriously, because buses can run 2-3 times a day, and not at all on weekends. All stops are on demand, so buses run surprisingly fast. The price is 1.5 euros for a trip, or 5 euros per day, or 15 euros per week, all this is within the region, that is, from a five-minute trip around the city, to a route of about 50 km.
2. Such a map (next three photos) can be taken for free at the Gavan bus station, and it also hangs at every stop, although the right piece can be damaged there. Bus stations are red squares. These are urban routes. Between bus stations - bus 618, runs 2 times an hour, more often (about every 10 minutes) bus 610 runs, stops in the center of Upper Paphos, from there it takes about 7 minutes to go to the bus station, but it is not easy to find.

Also at the bus station is the office of the Ruslan-travel travel agency, which seems to be the most famous in Cyprus. There we bought sightseeing tour, and at the same time a Russian-speaking girl advised us on the immediate surroundings. Excursions for the whole day cost 25-30 euros, and when buying two at once, we were offered a discount of 10 euros per person. But we steadfastly took only one.

Well, now our program by day.
First day(arrived the night before) - Paphos. Along the sea to the Harbor - Harbor - catacombs and Mount Fabrika - Archaeological Museum. It did not turn out very well that we got to the museum already quite tired, and it is rather big in size, so perhaps we paid less attention to it than it deserves.
Second day- Polis - the baths and the path of Aphrodite. On foot to the Harbor - bus 610 to upper Paphos and its cursory inspection - bus 645 to Polis (it takes 45 minutes, runs about 1 time per hour) - bus 622 to the baths of Aphrodite - a walk along the path along the sea - back to Polis with its cursory inspection - bus 648 to Coral Bay (Coral Beach) - bus 615 to the Harbor.
I strongly advise everyone to go to Polis and back in two different ways. - perhaps the strongest impression of the trip. And when we literally jumped from bus to bus at the end, I realized that we would come back here.
The third day- Excursion to the mountains. In general, successful, despite the rain and fog (and what would we do in the rain, if not for the tour?)
Fourth day- Agios Georgios - Royal Tombs. Harbor bus station - bus 615 to Coral Bay with a short walk during the transfer - bus 616 to Agios Georgios - a walk towards Akamas - a walk among the ancient tombs found by chance - on the way back, before reaching the center, we get off and explore the Royal Tombs - on foot by the shore sea to the Harbor and further to the hotel. It turned out to be our busiest day - we walked about 15 km, including off-road walking and climbing through the tombs. and at the end there was also shopping (it was one of two weekdays in Cyprus).
Fifth day- Stone of Aphrodite - rest. From the hotel bus 631 to Petra tou Romiou (this is the Stone of Aphrodite). We stayed there for an hour and a half, and on the way back we got out at the entrance to Paphos to reach the hotel by sea.

Little nothings of life. Weekend. Not only on January 1, but also on January 6 (baptism). On Saturday (not to mention Sunday) shops, bus routes and other important objects for tourists may not work. Cafes and restaurants are open (if not closed for the winter). Although on January 1 we did not find a single working cafe (although we were still poorly oriented).
Left side traffic. My recommendations. First, before each crossing of the road, mentally repeat: "to the right, then to the left." Secondly, when looking for a transport stop, also think every time which side it should be on.
Sockets. There are many different options: a euro socket can be in a hotel room (we had it, although we didn’t find it right away), an adapter can be offered to you at the hotel for free or for rent, you can buy it at any store. But we preferred to play it safe and took in Russia from friends.

Everything seems to be. Only the post title remains.
