Many will be interested in seeing with their own eyes how this product is made.

    Trip planning

    Phu Quoc Island covers an area of almost 600 km, so it is impossible to get acquainted with the main attractions in a day; this will require at least two to three days. During this period you can explore the central part of the island around the Duong Dong, visiting the local night market with the freshest seafood, fish sauce factory, Pearl Farm and Dinh Cau Temple.

    At the Fukuoka Night Market you can not only buy the freshest seafood, but also have a great dinner

    If you are planning a trip for 4–7 days, you should visit the national park, pepper plantations, Southern Islands with untouched nature, as well as diving and snorkeling on Turtle Island in the northern part of Phu Quoc. Those who do not have scuba diving skills, but really want to see coral reefs and their inhabitants, can contact a diving club, where beginners will be taught the basics of underwater swimming. Rainbow Divers Diving School is located in Duong Dong and has 15 years of experience in teaching children and adults.

    If you have some free time, an excursion to the romantic islands in the southern part of Fukuoka will be interesting:

  • Fingernale Island - heavenly place for a secluded holiday with a small beach surrounded by the jungle;
    Fingernail Island in Phu Quoc is a great place for a secluded getaway
  • Hon Tam, or Pineapple Island, is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of Phu Quoc;
    Hon Tam Island is famous for its picturesque scenery
  • Capitan's Cape in the southeast is famous not only for its stunning scenery, but also for its history associated with Emperor Gia Long, the first king of the Nguyen dynasty.
    Cape Captain - the southeastern tip of the island with untouched nature
  • According to legend, Gia Long's boat, heading towards the cape in the hope of hiding here from the soldiers pursuing him, ended up on a reef. The captain jumped into the sea to quickly free her, sacrificing his life. When Gia Long (Nguyen The To) became emperor, he returned to this place to honor the memory of the deceased captain.

    For a long trip to the island, you should worry about accommodation in advance, especially if the trip takes place during the high season. The choice of accommodation on the island is quite wide: from modest bamboo huts on the seashore to expensive apartments. Among hotels with a European level of service, Coco has a large number of positive reviews Palm Resort, Arcadia Resort and Saigon Resort. Prices for a double room with breakfast included at Arcadia Resort start from $40; in guest houses you can rent a room for $9.

    Arcadia Resort is a popular European-level hotel in the center of Fukuoka

    For comfortable rest on the island you should familiarize yourself with some of the features of this region:

  • Payment in hotels and large stores is accepted both in cash (in local currency or dollars) and by credit cards. If you wish, you can exchange currency at the hotel reception or at the bank;
  • when withdrawing cash from international credit cards in Fukuoka there is a limit of 3 million dong per transaction. Bank commissions are generally 1–5%, the lowest at MB Bank;
  • when traveling to the national park and waterfalls, you should definitely take repellent with you, since there are a large number of mosquitoes in the jungle thickets;
  • there is no developed system on the island public transport. There are only three bus routes. The most convenient way to get around Fukuoka is to use scooters or taxis;
  • island cuisine is based on seafood, but you can also find restaurants with a European menu and even Russian (Moscow restaurant). Tourists should try the national sea cucumber soup, grilled sea urchin, pickled herring salad;
  • One of the major local tour operators is Dongnoi Phu Quoc Tourist, which offers a variety of excursions around the island and unique individual tours. Her office is located at 23 Tran Hung Dao, KP7, Duong Dong;
  • For souvenirs, pay attention to products made from natural pearls, ceramics, wood, and local wines.
  • Located in the south of colorful Vietnam, in the eternally warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand on the border with Cambodia. It ranks first on the list of the country's largest islands as it measures 48 km in length and just over 25 km in width.

    Interesting! Because of the mountain range that occupies most of Phu Quoc, local residents gave it the poetic name “Island of 99 Mountains.”

    Among experienced travelers you can often hear a comparison of this place with Thai Phuket island. There are indeed similarities between them, especially in climate and size, but Fukuoka has a less intense life, and it is also less developed and equipped.

    There are no hundreds of noisy discos, international bars, brothels and dozens of shopping centers where you can cheaply buy clothes, shoes and jewelry from local manufacturers. There are also fewer cultural attractions on the Vietnamese island. But it is precisely these qualities that made Phu Quoc one of the most attractive places For .

    First of all this region famous, but besides this, you can find some attractions on the island.

    Sights and excursions

    Exciting excursions for vacationers and travelers in 350 cities around the world: Tripster.ru is a service of unusual excursions from local residents and guides who can tell you in an interesting and exciting way about the most interesting things in their cities.

    The reason for the imperfection of local tourism infrastructure The problem is that its development began only in the mid-2000s. The reason for this was unclear international status of the island. If you look at the map, you can see that it is located in territorial waters, exactly in the middle of the border between Cambodia and Vietnam.

    Interesting! Therefore, for almost half a century, two states disputed the ownership of Fukuoka. Until the territorial dispute was resolved, none of the parties that claimed the site were willing to invest in its development.

    The influx of tourists and the final assignment of the island to Vietnam, spurred the development of Fukuoka. Now there are several objects that you must visit during your stay on the island.

    Nha Lao Cay Dua Prison or Coconut Tree Prison

    During the First Indochina War from 1949 to 1950, when Vietnam was under French colonial rule, Phu Quoc Island was chosen by the authorities as the location for the organization the country's largest prison. Then this region had little in common with the present one paradise island, it was a hellish place for torture and torture.

    The newly opened prison was named "Coconut Prison" because prison authorities forced criminals and prisoners of war to work until exhaustion on local coconut plantations. Rarely a working day went by without the death of one of the workers.

    During the Second Indochina War, as well as during the subsequent civil war in Vietnam, the prison became into US possession. During this period, its size expanded significantly, as did the scale of the atrocities that took place in its dungeons.

    This prison acquired the gloomy fame of one of the places where the most brutal torture of a person.

    Shock! Evidence of this are numerous objects, such as: tiny coffin-sized cells with walls and ceilings made of barbed wire, torture chambers with instruments for torturing people, pits for prisoners half filled with swamp water, as well as execution yards and mass graves. All this was preserved with the help of a memory museum that was opened on the site of the prison.

    For those who are interested in the new history of the region and want to know more about the events that took place in South-East Asia during the period of colonialism and civil wars definitely worth it visit the Coconut Prison with a guided tour.

    Fukuoka Lighthouse

    In contrast to the previous object, Fukuoka Lighthouse is a pleasant place with pastoral landscapes that leaves best experience. French colonists built this object on a small cliff.

    Interesting! The lighthouse was built next to an ancient thousand-year-old temple, where, according to local fishermen’s beliefs, the good goddess Tian Hou lives, who patronizes fishermen and sailors. Local residents still come here to present a sacrificial offering to the goddess, or to pray to her for a successful catch.

    The lighthouse is not only an object of pilgrimage, but also a small spontaneous place where you can buy a wide variety of seafood, including exotic ones, at cheap prices (by CIS standards). Here you can buy rare seafood delicacies that in Europe are found only in the most advanced and expensive supermarkets or fish restaurants.

    ATTENTION! It is recommended to visit the lighthouse in the afternoon. At this time, local sailors return from the sea with the morning catch, and their family carries fresh seafood to a spontaneous market in order to sell it to other residents of the island or tourists. There you can buy not only fresh fish, but also fish prepared at home or in small local taverns.

    Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Factory

    No self-respecting Vietnamese eats food without fish sauce, which is as indispensable here as table salt in the rest of the world. It is served absolutely everywhere here: both in home cooking and... And almost everyone eats with it.

    Historically, the best fish sauce in the country is made on the island of Phu Quoc, which is located in a very favorable place in terms of fishing. This seasoning is produced here in huge quantities. at a local fish sauce factory. From there it is distributed throughout the country and even exported beyond its borders: to Europe, the USA, and other Asian countries.

    The factory for the production of this sauce can be found just a couple of minutes walk from the main market of the island.

    Important! Moreover, you can enter its territory completely free of charge, but you will only have to pay for the services of an English-speaking guide who will take you on a tour of the most interesting places of the facility and explain the essence of the production processes inside. You can refuse the services of a guide, but in this case you will have to figure out what is happening on your own.

    Inside the factory, travelers can see huge wooden barrels, in which the sauce is infused and acquires its specific taste and aroma, which are so valued in Vietnam.

    Most tourists can smell the factory by the strong smell of rotten fish, even tens of meters away from it, because of this they often flatly refuse to go inside. And completely in vain!

    After all, the sauce here is made using old technology, without preservatives or chemicals:

    • first, dry corals are placed in a wooden container as a filter;
    • sprinkle small fish sprinkled with salt on top;
    • the entire mixture ferments for 4 years;
    • After the fermentation process is completed, the sauce is poured into pots, adding spices that give it a specific color and spicy taste.

    ATTENTION! Some airlines have banned the carriage of fish sauce on their planes because if it is accidentally uncorked, it will contaminate the entire cabin. Therefore, passengers' luggage may be carefully checked for the presence of sauce.

    Pepper plantations

    Large in area black pepper plantations. The attraction is not very interesting, but in order to pass the time between excursions, it is quite suitable. In addition, passage there is quite inexpensive.

    Pearl farm

    After all, it is grown here in huge quantities. For this purpose, there are several farms with swimming pools in Fukuoka.

    Interesting! These farms were organized in 1998 and in a couple of years of activity they turned from an ordinary enterprise local significance to the most visited objects of this type on the planet.

    People are attracted to opportunity free get to the farm territory to see with your own eyes how oyster shells mature in pools, how tiny grains of sand are implanted into them, which gradually turn into pearls, and also how the finished product is extracted and processed, turning into beautiful jewelry.

    Important! As already noted, the cost of visiting the farm is free, but you will have to pay for the services of a guide and transportation there.

    Speaking of products: here you can buy them at a lower cost than in Vietnam in general, due to the lack of store markups for additional taxes and logistics.

    The cost of products made from real pearls in Fukuoka starts from $30.

    National Park Phu Quoc National Park

    The main advantage of Fukuoka is this is its heavenly untouched nature, which will amaze with its appearance even a person indifferent to such beauties.

    All main natural resources concentrated in the territory national park, which consists of relict jungles hundreds of thousands of years old and numerous mountains among them. From these mountains to large quantities drain warm waterfalls, which form small rivers and dams.

    In the park you can see 930 plant species, including those listed in the Red Book. More than 150 species of animals, in particular, the famous wild dogs of Phu Quoc, which were brought here in ancient times by the first inhabitants of the island, but escaped into the jungle and became completely wild.

    Suoi Tranh Waterfall

    Medium sized waterfall located deep in the park. He is famous for repeatedly appearing in famous films when directors needed to demonstrate the beauty of the tropics. Once there, observers find themselves at a small and clean pool of water, which is surrounded on all sides by lush tropical vegetation, and the rocks of the waterfall are shrouded in vines.

    Note! A convenient walking path made of stones leads to the waterfall.

    The cost of the excursion is about 50,000 thousand VND.

    Duong Dong Lake and Ho Duong Dong Reservoirs

    In the very center of the park Several dams were built near the mountain range, which helped form a large reservoir fed by clean mountain rivers. These hydrological features are the main source drinking water for the inhabitants of the island.

    They have also turned into a tourist attraction, since they are surrounded on all sides by relict jungle and in appearance reminiscent of a heavenly lake.

    Pagodas and temples

    In Fukuoka you can find small buddhist temple, which is located on the territory of the above-mentioned lighthouse. There is also a pagoda built in honor of the patron goddess of sailors.

    The second pagoda and temple are located in an island village called Duong Duong. Climbing onto the territory temple complex, you can get to the observation deck from which you can see the entire city perfectly.

    ATTENTION! There are two staircases in Duong Dong Temple: one is exclusively for men and the other is exclusively for women. Therefore, you should not be surprised by persistent requests to climb the required stairs.

    Coi Nguon Museum

    This private museum, located in the city center of Duong Duong, tells the story of the island. In the 5-story building you can find more 3000 items antiquity, archaeological finds, household items and monuments that were found throughout Fukuoka.

    Interesting! The collection numbers about 5,000 thousand exhibits, and this number is constantly growing. It is worth noting that the entire collection was collected by just one person, whose family owns the local history museum.

    Entertainment

    Beach lovers active rest will also find entertainment in Fukuoka.

    Leisure

    Active recreation on the island is mainly represented by diving, as well as tourist bases for ecotrekking (hiking with overnight stays in a national park). Also here or a bicycle to explore all the beauties of the island in person, and not as part of an excursion. For lovers nightlife there are numerous bars and nightclubs.

    Beach holiday

    For Fukuoka, this is not just a beautiful epithet, but a very real status. After all, since 2008, this resort has taken first place in the list of the most beautiful and environmentally friendly places for tourism on the planet.

    There is no dominance of water scooterists and kitesurfers, and the area is full of wild beaches, where you may not see a single person all day one soul. The latter factor makes Phu Quoc a great place for fans of nudism.

    With kids

    You can entertain children in large amusement park "Winpearl Land" with a water park, numerous attractions and an aquarium, or leaving them in the hands of animators who are available at any hotel in Vinpearl, for example in the top hotel Vinpearl Nha Trang Resort.

    What to see on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

    With the popularity of Phu Quoc Island growing every year, more and more good hotels and ways to have fun are appearing here. Fukuoka has a large safari zoo, world-class golf courses, big park entertainment and some stunning beaches. Many people ask “Phu Quoc or Nha Trang, which is better?” I don’t have a definite answer to this question. Phu Quoc is a much calmer resort than Nha Trang, but prices here are a little higher. Nha Trang is more popular, Russian tourists discovered Phu Quoc relatively recently, and it still looks like an exotic island not trampled by tourists.

    Phu Quoc offers ocean, land and air excursions, scuba diving, hiking, exotic bird watching, trekking and fishing.

    Phu Quoc combines natural beauty and tranquility, the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam and very tasty cuisine. In this article we will figure out what to see on Phu Quoc Island (Vietnam).

    15 things to do in Fukuoka

    Let me make a reservation right away that you can take excursions in Phu Quoc (Vietnam) at local tourist information centers - this is not a problem. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t provide you with a link to a website where you can see prices for excursions in Fukuoka online. All the places listed in this article can be visited on your own.

    Below you see a map of Fukuoka with attractions in Russian, which I wrote about in the article. In the top left corner of the map you will see a button that looks like a tablet or monitor - click it and a map legend will open with all the places I mentioned in the article.

    Relax on local beaches

    In Fukuoka you will find some of the most beautiful beaches Vietnam. Palm trees, azure sea and snow-white sand in the best traditions of Bounty advertising. This is one of the few places in Vietnam where you can see the sun setting over the ocean. The most beautiful and famous beaches of Phu Quoc: Long Beach, Sao Beach, Khem Beach, Thom Beach, and Vung Bau Beach. If you can, try to visit them all.

    In the north of the island between the beaches of Vung Bau and Ganh Dau you will find the Vinpearl amusement park - the younger brother of the famous Vinpearl park near Nha Trang. This is the local Disneyland - part entertainment complex, part trade area and partly a hotel. This park is located on one of the the most beautiful coasts Fukuoka.

    Another beach worthy of attention-Cua Can. It is interesting to see the nearby villages, take a ride along the river of the same name and take a walk through the local forest. You can also go fishing with the locals.

    In my opinion, riding in the north of the island is the most interesting, but you can choose your own route and pretend to be a pioneer.

    I would advise you to go to Phu Quoc National Park (Công Viên Quốc Gia Phú Quốc). It's nice to ride along the red clay roads, admiring the ocean on one side and the forest on the other. There is a crocodile farm nearby.

    Hire a boat and go fishing

    One of the fun things to do in Fukuoka is to hire a fisherman with a boat and go fishing. Half of the pleasure will come from the opportunity to bargain, and the other half from the opportunity to see rare places where tourists practically never go, but the locals are very familiar with them.

    In my opinion, the best places for fishing are: An Thoi, Duong Dong River, Cua Can and Vung Bau beaches.

    You especially can’t go wrong in An Thoi – there are fishing boats constantly running to the small neighboring islands and you can easily negotiate with any fisherman.

    Explore a national park

    © gavinkwhite / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

    Fukuoka National Park covers about a third of the island. This option is perfect for those who like to walk a lot and discover everything mysterious and wild. There are several basic popular trails in the park, but you can choose your own route. The main thing is to prepare well. The park is home to macaques, langurs, otters, loris, bats and hornbills.

    If you are not confident in your ability to navigate the jungle, then it is better to buy a tour from one of the local travel agencies, because... Many of the paths here are not very clearly marked and there is a high chance of getting lost. And Phu Quoc is a large island, about 500 square kilometers.

    Explore the underwater world with a mask - snorkeling

    What else to do in Phu Quoc (Vietnam) other than immerse yourself in the warm waters of the ocean? Snorkeling is a leisure activity accessible to any person without age restrictions who can confidently float on the water independently or at least with a vest. The peculiarity of Fukuoka is that you don’t need to swim far to see the beautiful underwater world with colorful fish and corals.

    You can rent a diving mask at popular beaches: Long Beach, Ganh Dau Beach, and Sao Beach, and swim here.

    Or go diving

    Every year, scuba diving becomes an increasingly popular activity in Fukuoka. The reason is simple: the opportunity to see and touch the underwater world in warm, clear water low prices with friendly guides.

    Anyone can try themselves in diving. The most popular place for diving - shallow water near the islands of the An Thoi archipelago in the south of the island. Where I suggested you go fishing.

    Beginners will be delighted by the beautiful coral life under the cover of the water and swimming in the company of colorful reef fish. If you've never scuba dived, Phu Quoc is a great place to do it for the first time. I'm serious!

    © mbu_26 / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

    The best metas for diving (I write in English and Vietnamese to make it easier to find on Google maps):

    In the north of the island:

    Turtle island (Đảo Rùa)

    Fingernail island (Hòn Móng Tay)

    On South:

    May Rut (Hòn May Rut)

    Hon Thom (Hòn Thơm)

    Dam Ngoai (Dâm Ngoài) West

    Dam Ngoai (Dâm Ngoài) South

    Roi (Rỏi) East

    Roi (Rỏi) South

    And further a few lesser known spots, but no less beautiful Hon Doi (Hòn Dơi), Da Chong (Đá Chồng), Ngoc Trai (Ngọc Trai), Ky Lan (Kỳ Lân).

    Swim in Da Ban Waterfall (suối Đá Bàn)

    What else to see on Phu Quoc Island? Da Ban Waterfall is located 16 km from the main city of the island - Duong Dong, right in the middle of Phu Quoc Island. This is very a nice place and here you can swim in the cool water. Oh joy! Because the sea is always warm.

    Of course, you don't have to swim. Just climb up the rocks and listen to the music of the forest: the singing of birds, the murmur of water. Catch a couple of fish and immediately fry them in the next cave, and you can also collect fresh fruit.

    Go to Dinh Cau Night Market

    © runnerone / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

    The Dinh Cau market is called the night market because only at 17:00 Vo Thi Sau street is closed to cars and it turns into a pedestrian street. At this time, the sellers take out their counters and work begins. Fukuoka Night Market has a lot to offer. Many people ask what to eat in Fukuoka. The answer is: there is a lot of delicious food here, such as grilled seafood, crab soup, boiled squid and snails, grilled meat and other Vietnamese dishes. If you want to eat fresh seafood, come early, by 19:00 the market is very crowded and you will have to stand in lines.

    In addition to food, the market sells souvenirs and handicrafts. Here you can easily find the answer to the question “What to bring from Fukuoka?” Many bring shells or dried crabs or starfish, medicinal Vietnamese tinctures, hats, and pearls. You can safely take pictures of whatever you want, it is allowed.

    When you come to the market, sellers will be calling you, do not approach any, but first walk down the street back and forth to choose the place you like best. Many sellers at the market are friendly, but there are also aggressive ones who will start shouting and threatening if refused, why would you spoil your mood?

    Prices in the markets are always inflated, especially for foreigners. Keep in mind that you can always bargain in Vietnam.

    At the market you can buy fresh fish and seafood by weight. Some of them are still alive, floating in special containers, and some are lying on ice.

    As in any market in Vietnam, there are many small child beggars. Whether you give them money or not is up to you.

    Take a ride on the water

    Water sports are still new to Fukuoka. The island recently began accepting tourists. And so far only rare specimens on water skis cross the water surface, sailing yacht or kayak. Basically all entertainment is provided on the main beach of the island, Long Beach.

    Have a picnic at Suoi Tranh Waterfall
