Sand and pebbles are found on the beach. Beaches: sand or pebbles

Typically, most beaches are sandy. But there are rare exceptions, for example, covered exclusively with shells, pebbles or glass. Common pebbles are found on any beach in small numbers, but there are very few beaches that are completely covered only with pebbles. Chesil  - This is a 29-kilometer fully pebble beach located in the county of Dorset in the south of England. Pebbles on it are about the size of a pea - at the northwestern end of the beach and about the size of a fist - on the southeastern outskirts. Previously, smugglers who landed on the beach in the middle of the night could judge by the size of the pebbles in which region they were located.

Pebbles on Chesil beach can be of different breeds - silicon, quartzite, granite, magnetite, pumice and others. Here's another photo of Chesil Beach in England, completely pebbled:

Schoolhouse Beach  in the USA is located on the island of Washington in Wisconsin. It got its name in honor of the wooden school building that once stood in these places. The beach is dotted with small white limestone pebbles polished by glaciers thousands of years ago. Stones from the beach must not be taken with you, this is prohibited by law, and a large fine is imposed for violating the ban.

Pebble beach Mabua  in the Philippines, it is about a 30-minute drive from Serigao, located at the northeastern tip of Mindanao Island. A kilometer-long coastline consists entirely of pebbles of different sizes: small pebbles at the water's edge, palm-sized pebbles away from the water.

Valugan Beach  the Philippines is just a short bike ride from the city of Basco. The beach is known for its smooth boulders that line the coastline, which stretches for many kilometers. Unlike most pebble beaches, pebbles on Valugan are huge boulders.

Jasper Beach  (Jasper Beach) in the USA is located in Howard Cove, Maine. This is a 800-meter stone-lined beach. The stones are quite large in the upper part of the beach, but if you come closer to the water, we find pebbles the size of fine gravel. Pebbles are of volcanic origin, mainly it is dark red in color.

Probably, in every city, and even more so, if we are talking about the resort, there are "branded" places. It is for these attractions that you can guess the place and make up your impression of it. On Corfu (or the island of Kerkyra, as the Greeks themselves call it) there are several such places. But the main visiting card of this place is chic beaches. In this article you will discover the best beaches of Corfu.

Pebble beaches

For your convenience, we divided the main beaches of Corfu into two categories: pebble and sand. Some beaches are pebble and sand, this will be discussed in the description separately.

The magnificent Paleokastritsa

If you decide to search the Internet for photos of the beaches of Corfu, the first place will probably be pictures of Cape Paleokastritsa. Many consider this cape the most picturesque attraction of the island and strive for it there.

From the capital of Kerkyra to Paleokastritsa you can get to Green Bus (the so-called bus), the ticket costs several euros. The journey will take about thirty minutes. Another way to admire the cape is to book a tour of Kerkyra, not a single tourist group passes by. However, in this case, plunge into the warm sea is unlikely to succeed.

If you already go to the beach, then you should definitely bring a mask and flippers with you, because the water is clear and the underwater world is rich. Everything around is fragrant with aromas of the Mediterranean.

Buses come straight to the central beach, there is also a pier. On it, locals offer a yacht or boat ride on grottoes and caves. It seems that foreign tourists are too much, but most do not make noise and observe the harmony of this place. Here you will find incredibly picturesque bays. In Paleokastritsa - the best beaches of Corfu, on the map you can find a city in the western part of the island.

Here the sand is mixed with pebbles. The direct entrance to the water is purely sandy, so special shoes are not needed. Be prepared that the June water will be cold, it is better to swim later. But at any time of the year the turquoise transparent sea will not leave you indifferent!

Barbati - fashionable beach

Barbati is a very clean pebble beach with clear water. From the coast you can see Albania, and if you sail away, you will have a magnificent view of Mount Pantokrator. Everyone can rent sunbeds and umbrellas (there are always enough of them, trestle beds are placed in several rows). Barbati has a place to eat. You will find here both a shower and a restroom. Despite all the amenities, the place is not crowded. The only exceptions are weekends, when the Greeks also want to relax. If you are tired of the heat, you can walk along the olive grove, which separates the coastline from residential complexes.

In general, Barbati is a "glamorous village", the best place for parties where people come to dump the load of fatigue cream of Greek society. And if you are looking for beaches on the island of Corfu, where you can also hang out, then here you are! Within walking distance of clubs, there you can cover yourself with a beautiful tan and cool off with a delicious cocktail. If you like music, fun, and the smell of coffee in the air, then you are at the right place.

Modern Agios Gordios

Agios Gordios is conveniently located in the beautiful bay of Corfu, which you can immediately recognize from the photo. Typical features of the beach are its characteristic rocky topography and a small rock that peeps out of the sea. This is the west coast of the island, and traditionally it is considered European. There are very few Slavs in the village and by the sea.

Agios Gordios is civilized, there are many places where you can eat. There are taverns with delicious national cuisine. Moreover, in many coastal restaurants and bars, customers are offered free sunbeds. Even if you do not buy anything, sunbeds are inexpensive. Two sunbeds with an umbrella cost from 5 euros per day.

If you are interested in where there are sandy beaches on Corfu, then in part you will find the answer here. Agios Gordios is rather big, three kilometers long. There is sand on the shore, but the entrance to the sea is sprinkled with small pebbles. There are no sharp drops, the approach is smooth, and the deepest places begin about 15 meters from the coast. If you search, you can stumble upon a wild beach with a stunning fine sand, not only on the coast, but also in the sea. In general, the place is ideal for relaxing, especially with young children.

Porto Timoni - when the mountains embrace the sea

Porto Timoni is truly a virgin place with lush vegetation and clear sea. In beauty - this is the best beach in Corfu. You won’t be able to get there by public transport: only by a rental car, by taxi or by your own two. Even if you go by car, on the way to the beach you still have to overcome the descent from the mountain (about a quarter of an hour), and you will have to climb back, respectively. We advise you to take a shift with you. But the views of Porto Timoni are worth the effort. Therefore, when asked about the most beautiful beaches of Corfu, you will probably tell about Porto Timoni.

Before the descent, you can eat in the cafe, and forward to the chic pebble coast. In order not to get lost, look at the signs and look for the inscription “Double beach” (double beach). In general, the name is not entirely true. In fact, there are three beaches, it’s just more difficult to get to the third than to the first two, so there are usually no people there.

Going to any of them, it is advisable to take a parasol with you, because you will not find a shadow. The north beach is windy, the water seems colder. But in the southern Porto Timoni there is absolutely no wind, so there are many wasps. For those who do not want to climb the mountains, there is an option to get to the beach by catamaran or boat.

Bataria - a beach with snow-white stones

Bataria is cozy and clean, but the pebbles on it are large. Trestle beds and umbrellas are paid, almost all are laid out on stones. When entering the water, pebbles can cause trouble: pebbles can hurt your feet, especially babies. It is better to immediately buy rubber bathing shoes.

But the views are simply fantastic: azure water contrasts with white stones. Beautiful views of the nature! The photos are great. However, there are also disadvantages.

The beach is small, in the afternoon there are a lot of people. Sun beds give out uncomfortable, umbrellas are old and sometimes broken. There is no restroom and no soul. There is only a cafe where you can visit the toilet. But in Bataria there are changing cabins. But in terms of transport accessibility there are no questions, there is parking above the beach.

Rovinia - Beauty of the Wild

Rovinia beach is a small pebble-rocky beach. Buses do not go here, but by car, boat (sea taxi) or on foot you can easily get there. Parking is nearby. White pebbles, blue sea, tempting grottoes. Crystal water, no algae, it’s a sin not to dive with a mask and not try to catch fish with your hands! The sea is deep.

A secluded place, but still you can’t call it paradise. There is dirt and there is something to complain about in terms of improvement. There are no sunbeds and umbrellas. In addition, due to the fact that the beach is wild, there are no buoys and limiters for boats. Everyone on a motor boat warns along the coast. Sometimes this creates a danger: people are in the water, and a boat floats nearby. You never know how it might end.

It is difficult to find a beach without instructions from the local Rovinia, because there are no signs. The road to the beach is picturesque in itself, runs through olive groves. You can buy food on a small boat that brings snacks and drinks. They sell decent sandwiches, inexpensive beer and iced coffee.

Sandy beaches of Corfu

Those who do not like pebbles, but chose Corfu to rest, will find good sandy beaches on the island: noisy and secluded, popular and not crowded.

Agios Georgios - Secluded Vacation Spot

This sandy beach is clean and large. There are interspersed pebbles at the entrance to the water. There are usually not many people here.

Employees of hotels, shops and tourist shops do not know Russian words at all. Our compatriots usually rest on the east coast, and we offer tours there.

You can get to Agios Georgios at any time of the day or night by taxi, in about twenty minutes. Corfu is completely serpentines and rocks, so if there is a phobia of height, you can feel uncomfortable.

Sunset at sea is beautiful, but there may be waves in this part of the island. Although for many this is a plus. Of course, you can’t do surfing, but you can ride the waves with young children. Dolphins pass by. For vacationers, they sometimes arrange their amazing performance.

The shallow sea is the next ten meters, then the depth begins. In the field of view, you can always find a shower with fresh water to rinse.

Crowded Gardenos

This beach is ideal for relaxing from the hustle and bustle of Corfu. Local residents and tourists who live nearby relax here. It is not one of those beaches that go to the other end of Corfu. Gardenas is huge, completely sandy - sand both on the shore and in the sea. The water is warmer than in Paleokastritsa.

If you go there by car, it is better to take umbrellas and bedspreads for lying with you. Umbrellas are conveniently stuck in the sand, you can save on rent. Open space, the wind walks almost always.

Before the entrance to the beach are shops and restaurants. There is a shower and a dressing room. In the water you can see fish and other marine life.

On the shore there is a small and simple restaurant with very affordable prices. You can order takeaway food and enjoy food while looking at the sea from your sunbed.

Mirtiotissa - no need to be shy

A stunning beach, one of the best and most picturesque in all of Greece. The main part of Myrtiotissa is given to nudists. Get ready for it. The beach is modest, comfortable, with a sandy gentle approach to the sea.

A peculiarity of the beach was its secluded location: you can get here only by a rented car or moped. By the way, in order to go down to the sea, you will have to overcome a sharp descent, and a scooter with a weak motor can then not go up. Umbrellas are surprisingly free, they are handed out to everyone at the entrance, but you have to pay for the opportunity to lie on a deck chair.

This is one of the prettiest resorts in Corfu with sandy beaches. There is a bar with drinks and snacks, and a restaurant along the way. Due to its specificity, tourists from Western Europe and representatives of sexual minorities often come to Mirtiotissa. However, many families with children.

Another wonderful beach is Paradise. Translated - "paradise beach." Tourists love it for its gentle sand, a convenient approach to the sea and clear water. In addition, the beach is very exotic and detached.

It is important that you don’t get there by land, you only have to get there by sea.

If you are sailing in a boat, remember that it is forbidden to moor. However, if there are no people on Paradise, an exception can be made.

According to the rules, you need to anchor at a distance of fifty meters and swim, like Robinson Crusoe. This means that you can’t take anything with you. The best time to approach is early morning. A taxi boat will leave fifteen euros for each passenger, and renting an entire boat for a day will cost about 80 euros. It is convenient to moor, time can be planned as you want.

The left side of Paradise beach is more “civilized” and flat: there are sunbeds and umbrellas. The right half is deserted, large stones in the sea. In general, the beach is long and generally pleasing to the eye, but if you want to inspect the shore better, take along shoes for walking along the stones. Sheer cliffs of snow, thick greens, a long narrow strip of coastline - your heart will always remain here!

Marathias

Wide clean sandy beach with a pleasant entry into the sea. It is easily accessible by car or scooter. There are few tourists, quiet and comfortable. Of the visitors, most of the Greeks, and almost no Slavs. Clear water, which sometimes has small waves and wind. The depth near the shore is shallow, so Maratias is suitable for both young children and the elderly.

A huge space where you can play beach games or just sunbathe. Almost everyone praises the stunning "golden" sand on Maratias. There are enough bars and restaurants. Relaxing music is often heard. All in all, a fantastic beach for all ages, safe for children. A sunbed with umbrella can be rented for 3.

Initially, in this article we wanted to list all the existing beaches of Montenegro. But when they began to write it, they realized that we could not cope:

  • The coastline of Montenegro is about 73 kilometers long.
  • And almost all of it is divided into beaches: small and large; sandy, pebble and concrete; urban, private, wild and nudist.
  • The number of popular beaches has long exceeded one hundred (117, to be exact).

Therefore, in this article we decided to write primarily about the general features of the Montenegrin beaches and the characteristic differences of the beaches on different Riviera. By the way, a little further in the article, in the Riviera section, you can admire the unique three-dimensional panoramas.

We will list the beaches themselves with reference to a specific city or Riviera.

Laws on beaches in Montenegro: cleaning and sunbeds

Montenegro is a country that lives solely on tourism. And therefore, the convenience of tourists here is treated as carefully as possible. Let's look at the laws on the beaches:

  1. The entire coastline is exclusively state property. There are practically no private beaches in Montenegro.
  2. The state often rents beaches, but the requirements for rented beaches are very serious.
  3. Cleaning on the beaches during the tourist season by law occurs every day. In reality, twice a day, morning and evening.
  4. Not more than 50% of the beach can be occupied by paid sunbeds. The rest of the place is for vacationers with a towel.
  5. On the territory of hotels sunbeds can be filled the entire beach, but then they are free.
  6. Entrance to any beach and access to the sea is free for everyone. You can’t even build decorative fences.

These laws are violated very rarely. And in exceptional cases: it is generally closed to visitors (you can get there only on an excursion or book a table in a restaurant), some of the beaches are nearby paid (you have to buy a sunbed), you can also get to Korolev’s beach at Villa Milocher only by paying for sunbeds (120 euros for set), and Queen's Beach is intended only for guests of the villa. Nearby there are quite enough free beaches.

But all these exceptions apply only to some elite beaches for very wealthy people.

As a conclusion: no matter where you rest, you can easily find a free and comfortable beach for relaxation.

Prices on the beaches - how much does the sunbed and umbrella cost?

Prices on the beaches are very dependent on their workload. The more vacationers, the more expensive. Sun beds are often sold in sets of 2 sun loungers and an umbrella.

Types of beaches in Montenegro: sandy, pebble and concrete.

There are almost no sandy beaches in Montenegro. They can be found only in the south of the country, near Ultsyn - this is the famous Velika Plaza (Big Beach).

All other beaches are pebble, mixed type or concrete (on the show). No matter how much you write in the reviews or descriptions of hotels / beaches about soft sand, you still can’t believe it. Sand may be imported. Usually it is imported in May, and by July or August it is washed.

It is not worthwhile to expect that the beach with imported sand will be sandy based on the reviews of tourists or a photo - in one year they can bring sand to the beach, and in the next one - no longer.

How do you get “sandy beaches” in Montenegro.

The coast of almost any natural beach in Montenegro is rocky and uneven. Well, what do you want from the country of mountains by the sea?

For tourists it is inconvenient. To somehow rectify the situation, beach tenants bring whole trucks of fine pebbles and sand here in the spring. Pebbles are poured from below, sand from above.

By the end of July, beginning of August, sand is washed out and mixed with pebbles. It turns out a sand and pebble beach. Pebbles will be the size of buckwheat or peas.

Pros of sand and pebble beaches

Have you ever wondered why you need sand on the beach? Especially if there are no children with you, and you yourself have long gone out of age when sculpting the little ones.

The sandy beaches, along with all their pluses, have a lot of minuses. Sand constantly falls into bags and towels, flies into the eyes, raises mud and mud into the sea.

Sand and pebble beaches are some of the most comfortable in the world. Especially if you will rest on the sunbeds. You will find clean water and the absence of “sand vortices”. And different rubbish dangerous for feet is much more noticeable.

Concrete beaches in Montenegro.

Concrete beaches are also a great option. This is when there are sun loungers on the beach, and we descend into the water along a ladder or stairs.

Causes hostility? At first, too. Exactly until the moment we realized that it was like swimming in a pool, but at the same time in real sea water.

Such beaches are convenient for people who know how to swim and who prefer to pay for sunbeds. Although we often saw vacationers with a towel and on concrete beaches. Most often in and.

An unambiguous advantage of this option is the absence of sand and eye-catching things in your mouth, mouth, towel and bag, and steep descents - you won’t have to go into the sea a few tens of meters.

The most common beaches in and. The largest and most famous is Ploce Beach, which is 12 km away. We advise: the beach is beautiful, well equipped and not too expensive.

Riviera in Montenegro

In Montenegro, beaches are usually divided into Riviera by the name of the nearest major city. Each Riviera has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are worth considering when you will choose a place for your future vacation. Let's try a short run on the main points:

Budva Riviera

The Budva Riviera usually includes cities:

  •   - one of the most ;
  •   and Milocer - elite recreation centers;
  • Petrovac - a resort considered healing due to its olive and coniferous groves;
  •   and - small resort villages, which back in 1935 won the Grand Prix for the most beautiful beach in Europe.
  • Sutomore is one of the cheapest resorts in Montenegro. There are good sand and pebble beaches, but a lot of tourists.

We will look at the beaches of Sutomore and their surroundings from a bird's flight:

The Budva Riviera is considered one of the most famous and popular in Montenegro and is famous primarily for its sand and pebble beaches (sand is often imported).

The beaches in Boka Kotorska are mostly concrete. There are practically no sand and pebble options. This is partially offset by the very beautiful scenery around - the mountains surround the bay from all sides.

We will admire the bay from the pier of the city. By the way, such tourist liners enter the harbor very, very often.

Herceg Novi Riviera

With cities related to the Hercegnovskaya Riviera, there is confusion on the Internet. For some reason, Risan is often referred to them, which are located in the community and quite far from. With confidence in the Riviera of Herceg Novi can be attributed:

  •   - An amazingly beautiful city on the side of a low mountain, which is often called the botanical garden of Montenegro.
  • Igalo is the health resort of Montenegro. Here you can enjoy mineral waters and healing mud.
  • Meline
  • Kumbor

The beaches of the Herceg Novi Riviera are small, but quite diverse. Concrete beaches are beginning to come across here more often, sometimes sand and gravel options with imported sand. There are also several natural pebble beaches (for example,).

The beaches of Ulcinj are covered with basalt sand. It is dark gray in color and is considered healing. A whole complex of minerals (iodine, calcium salts and carbonates) in such sand have a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system.

Theoretically, the beach season on the Ulcinj Riviera lasts for half a year - from April to November, but we did not dare to personally verify this statement.

I do not like pebble beaches, therefore I always make a choice in favor of sandy beaches. Is our Black Seait has not only a large selection of hotels and attractions, but also a huge selection of beaches. Here anyone can find a beach to their taste. It remains only to find out where on the Black Sea there are rocky beaches, and where are sandy.

Where on the Black Sea rocky beaches

Most famous resorts have pebble beaches. For instance:

  • Lazarevskoye;
  • Kabardinka;
  • Dzhubga;
  • Resorts of Crimea;
  • Resorts of Abkhazia.

I can not swim on the pebble beaches, but many people choose them for several reasons. Pros of pebble beaches:

  • purity and transparency of water;
  • stones and pebbles do not stick to the body like sand;
  • better visibility under water.

But not only the advantages of pebble and rocky beaches. Minuses:

  • sharp stones;
  • risk of cutting legs;
  • stones and pebbles are very hot in the sun;
  • the need to wear special bathing slippers.

Not everyone wears special bathing slippers. For some, pebbles are a great foot massager. But I still remember how a wave fell right on my stones. It ended badly. His legs were bruised and cut. And I'm not the only one who came across this.

Where on the Black Sea sandy beaches

On the The Black Seayou can easily find sandy shores. Most of the sandy beaches are located in Anapa. You can find a nice sandy beach in Gelendzhik.It is small (about 500 meters in length), but without pebbles. The sand also heats up very much at the height of the day, but it is easier to run on it without shoes. Try running without shoes on pebbles and stones. Sandy beaches have their drawbacks. The disadvantages include the following:

  • sand sticks to wet skin, especially a tan;
  • the water is not so clear, as the sand is constantly shaken by people who bathe in the sea;
  • during the wind, sand will fly into the eyes;
  • algae grows on beaches where there is sand, not pebbles.

Sandy beaches are very good if you are going on vacation with a child. Children will be more comfortable swimming. Sand is safer for children. The child will not fall on stones, so the risk of injury is greatly reduced. For the elderly, this is also a great beach.. On such beaches, the entrance to the water is smoother. If you are traveling to a sandy beach, then you do not need to bring special swimming shoes with you.

There are a lot of beaches on the Black Sea.  And you can always choose the beach that will be the most convenient and acceptable for you.

The surface layer of a pebble beach consists of pebbles, which are fragments of rocks rounded to varying degrees with a diameter of 1 to 10 cm. The sharp corners of the fragments roll around under the influence of coastal sea waves. Sea pebbles, as a rule, have a flat shape. Depending on the size of the pebble prevailing on the beach, coasts are coarse and pebble.

One of the main advantages of pebble beaches is clean and clear water. On beaches of this type it is good to dive with a mask and explore the underwater world - visibility allows. In addition, on pebble beaches, as a rule, there are much fewer vacationers than on sandy beaches. Some of the pebble beaches are completely “wild”. However, there are some inconveniences. Walking on pebbles heated in the sun is not only uncomfortable, but sometimes dangerous - that is why for comfortable rest on the coast it is necessary to use special slippers.

Large pebble beaches

Large pebble beaches consist of pebbles with a diameter of 5 to 10 cm.

Small pebble beaches

Small pebble beaches consist of pebbles with a diameter of 1 to 2.5 cm.

Sand and pebble beaches

Sand and pebble beaches, as a rule, consist of a mixture of pebbles and sand. However, sometimes this type of beach is a mixture of loose sand on the coast and a pebbled seabed. Sand and pebble beaches are suitable for families with children - a gentle entrance to the sea is safe for kids. The advantage of this type of beach is that pebbles mixed with sand and heated in the sun pleasantly massage the body, exerting a therapeutic effect. However, it must be remembered that in the event of a storm, pebbles lying at the bottom will most likely be washed ashore by strong waves.
