My daughter has been studying in Moscow for two years now; of course, I miss her very much and go to visit her every chance I get. Although it doesn’t happen as often as I want, 600 kilometers is still a long distance.

But she had already learned the route like the back of her hand. I have traveled by all types of transport and will be happy to share the details of this route.

By car

I traveled twice by car and only along the M4 highway, it is about half an hour from the city.

I don’t recommend driving along the bypass road through Tula and Kursk; the asphalt there is in rather poor condition.

The infrastructure on the M4 is quite well developed: many gas stations, various cafes and canteens, service stations, motels.

The road is also quite picturesque. For example, not far from Voronezh you can see the temple ensembles of the Zadonsk monasteries.

So it’s a pleasure to drive along this route, in every sense of the word. There are not many trucks here, the average speed can be maintained at 120 kilometers per hour. Cameras are visible from afar.

It is better to plan your trip so that you arrive in Moscow after nine in the evening, then you can avoid traffic jams.

Railway

A very convenient option and most often I choose it to travel along this route. There are quite a lot of passing trains; you can leave in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Check the schedule in advance on the official website of Russian Railways. There are both branded trains (even a double-decker) and regular ones. The journey takes on average 14 hours, but branded trains go a little faster.

Fare

Travel in a reserved seat regular train will cost 900 rubles if you want to go to branded train, then you will have to pay 1400 rubles for a ticket. The coupe costs almost twice as much.

By plane

The nearest airport is a hundred kilometers away in the city (it’s called Chertovitskoye).

The city of Liski is located 98 km from Voronezh on the banks of the Don River. We went to Liski by car, the journey takes a little over an hour, mostly along the Don highway.

How to get from Voronezh to Liski by car

The most common route along the M4 highway. We enter the highway from the street. Dimitrova, if we are coming from the center or entering M4 from the street. Ostuzhev, if we are coming from the North Bridge or from the Left Bank district. We enter Novaya Usman and walk along the highway. Here you need to know that from the beginning of November 2015, the section from km 544 to km 633 (immediately after Rogachevka and almost to Losevo) became tolled and toll payment terminals were already installed there. The first terminal is located at km 545: it charges a fee halfway from this place to the turn to Liski (price - 70 rubles per car during the day and 50 rubles at night). There may be a traffic jam near the terminals - especially in summer, after 8 am. During the season when they travel to the south, you can stand for quite a long time.

So we take the toll road to Sredny Ikorets and turn onto Liski. There are 23 km on a good asphalt road. You can do it even simpler. Catch a ride to Sredny Ikorets, which is located on the highway, and then take the Sredny Ikorets - Liski bus, which runs every 2 hours.

How to get from Voronezh to Liski by bus

From the Voronezh Central Bus Station there are direct flights to Liski 3 times a day - in the morning, at lunch and in the evening. Another additional one is assigned on Fridays and Sundays. The journey will take 2 hours 25 minutes. Buses also travel along M4, making stops in Novaya Usman, Rogachevka, Sredny Ikorts, etc.
