The standard excursion package includes a visit to this island, but very little time is allocated. To feel its atmosphere, you need to live here at least one day. Beaches with black, fiery red and white sand, a volcano crater where hot springs still flow, snow-white houses and winding staircase streets - all this is unusual and fabulously beautiful.

The most Italian island

This is how many people perceive Corfu. The capital is very reminiscent of Venice, only without the famous canals. But the web of streets, small squares with carved wells, galleries and fortresses - all this seems truly Venetian. The towering fortresses, Old and New, from where the entire island is visible as if in the palm of your hand, are of particular color.

Corfu is called the emerald island and this nickname is very appropriate. It is literally surrounded by olive groves, orange orchards and vineyards. Cozy bays provide an opportunity to appreciate all possible colors of the sea, from turquoise to sapphire. Experienced tourists recommend everyone to visit the island of Corfu in Greece. Tours here can be very short and limited in time, so it is better to take an independent trip.

It attracts tourists not with its expensive hotels and nightlife, but with its silence and originality. This is where its special charm lies. The island steadfastly resists the influx of large numbers of tourists, which is why everything here is so real and sincere.

It makes sense to plan a visit to the three main attractions of Kefalonia on the first day:

  • The Drogarati cave, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Greece, thanks to its huge hall, which is decorated with stalactites.
  • Lake Melissan. It opened after the cave ceiling collapsed.
  • Snow-white Myrtos beach.

Rhodes Island

Considering the popular resorts of Greece, we almost forgot about this piece of paradise. The airport is called “Diagoras” and is located in the capital of the same name. The main attraction here is not even the beaches, which Rhodes is rich in. The capital itself attracts the attention of tourists because of its color. This is a typically eastern city, with a labyrinth of streets and cozy houses with balconies covered in many flowers. Inquisitive tourists should definitely visit the colorful Palace of the Grand Masters. Don’t forget about the port of Mandraki, one of the seven wonders of the world awaits you here.

Butterfly Valley

This is another option if you are wondering where to go. Holidays in Greece can be very busy, especially if you don't like to sit in one place. Among natural beauty The romantic Valley of the Butterflies stands apart. A real carpet of flowers, between which weightless and beautiful creatures fly. All this creates a motley and bright picture, as if in a kaleidoscope. What a great way to spend a romantic evening here!

Instead of a conclusion

There is so much in Greece that you can come here a second or third time, but still be amazed by the beauty of nature and unique architectural monuments. A country like Greece annually attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. Amazing cuisine, amazing beaches, many cultural and historical monuments, the sights beckon. It is Greece that is suitable for both family holidays and lovers nightlife. It is interesting and exciting here both in summer and late autumn, when Greece gets rid of the large influx of tourists. Having determined for yourself what you want to get from your vacation (relaxing on the beach, hiking, excursions), you also need to decide where it is better to go to Greece.

Spring Athens - the capital of Greece

If you like active recreation, but do not want to crowd the streets among many tourists, it is better to go to Athens in early spring. Real spring in Greece begins in March, when tangerines, oranges and other exotic trees bloom. There are still quite a few tourists, so there is an opportunity to truly relax. The air temperature in this period of time in Greece does not fall below 20 degrees. And the aroma of blossoming almonds is in the air.

The excursion season in Greece opens in the spring. But where to go first in the capital? Of course this is the Acropolis. Initially, when it was conceived, the palace of the emperors was located on the Acropolis hill. But already in the 7th century BC its major restructuring began. Thus, the first stone was laid for the construction of the Parthenon Temple. Its peculiarity is that when looking at it from any point, it is visible in volume. The columns are erected at a certain angle and in certain places. Thus, each tourist will observe three walls at the same time.

Next, you should definitely go to the ruins of the Theater of Dionysus, where buses run regularly. This is a theater from antiquity under open air. Back in the 5th century BC it was simply a wooden stage where local celebrations were held. What is surprising is the excellent acoustics of the room. Today, even tourists are encouraged to check this indicator. One of the people remains at the bottom, the other goes up to the very last row. And they start communicating. The audibility is simply excellent even today.

Ancient market area in Athens is the Agora. It's worth going here to see the Temple of Hephaestus. Agora is translated from the ancient language as “to gather.” Indeed, it was a gathering place and meeting place local residents. Among other beautiful and unique attractions of Greece in Athens, the following are worth noting:

  • Tower of the Winds;
  • Hadrian's Library;
  • Byzantine Museum;
  • Odeon Attica;
  • Parthenon;
  • Plaka quarter.

After all, there are entire plantations and groves of these citrus trees.

But, at a rapid pace, local residents and the Greek government rebuilt the capital. But there are practically no old and ancient buildings left here. The surviving architectural structures of antiquity can be seen in the Old City.

From anywhere in the city you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view - white cliffs, golden shores, rich vegetation, wide beaches. Navajo Bay in Greece has indescribable beauty. Its name translates as “shipwreck”. One story contributed to this name of the area. In 1980, a ship carrying smuggled goods ran aground. Since then it has become a symbol of the bay. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get to its golden beach from the shore. You can swim in the emerald water only by sailing on a speedboat or boat from the sea.

Where to go next? The most beautiful places On an island in Greece, it is not the creations of man, but those of nature that are recognized. It’s also worth going to the Blue Caves. Tall stone arches and numerous grottoes proudly rise above the water surface. It's better to see it with your own eyes. The waters in these caves are rich in calcium and many minerals. Therefore, they are considered medicinal. One more business card The island and the whole of Greece can safely be called the Askos Stone Reserve. Many rare animals, birds and plants are found here.

Kastoria - the pearl of Greece

The popular resort town of Kastoria is located in northern Greece. This is the place where you should go to see the most beautiful nature. It is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The main attraction is Lake Orestiada, which is definitely worth visiting. The city has a large number of churches, as it is recognized as the religious center of Greece. The most famous from Byzantine times are the following:

  • Temple of the Holy Mother of God Mavriotis;
  • Church of the Holy Unmercenaries;
  • Church of Saint Athos in Greece;
  • Cathedral of the Archangel.

Kastoria does not have noisy beaches or nightclubs. It’s better to come here for a different experience - merging with nature. This territory of Greece has amazing peace and tranquility, despite the fact that it is a full-fledged city, not a village. Many cafes and small restaurants will delight you local cuisine, at fairly reasonable prices.

Recreation on the lake is presented in the form of fishing, rowing, and sailing. Quite massive mountains offer skiing in winter. The Kastoria Open Theater presents various theatrical performances every day. But when is it better to go to Kastoria? Of course, this is the spring-summer period. This is when you can go shopping for which Greece is famous.

Shopping plays an important role for tourism infrastructure cities. You will ask why? It's simple - Kastoria produces fur coats and other fur products. The quality of this product is excellent. Therefore, at the end of spring, Greece is rapidly filled with tourists from all over the world.

Which resort to choose in Greece?

Hello again, dear readers! It's December and summer is still far away, but many are already thinking about vacation. I would like to draw your attention to sunny Greece.

Pieria

Pieria is a fairly large region located between the city of Thessaloniki and the capital. Vacationers will like it because they can combine excursion holiday with beach Not far from here are the famous ones, it is convenient to get to Athens.

The area is located at the base mountain range Olympus. If you have a car, you can rent accommodation in small villages in the mountainous part, this will allow you to go hiking and enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery, while being close to the sea and in complete silence.

Sandy beaches interspersed with small pebbles and a smooth entry into the water, a large selection water activities, create the best conditions for recreation with children.

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is the second most important metropolis in Greece after the capital. However, thanks to the competent layout of the streets, there is no crowding or feeling of a crowd here. It is pleasant to walk along the streets of the city, looking at numerous architectural monuments.

Young people will enjoy the holiday; the city often hosts various festivals and offers musical events.

Hair

Hair – not so much yet famous place, like other resorts in Greece, but quite comfortable and beautiful. Despite the fact that all the infrastructure is there, there are few tourists. There is no airport nearby, and the road is public transport difficult. However, if you are by car, it is better to take a closer look at the resort.

There is no beach as such in the city itself. But in the surrounding villages there are amazing bays with clean and clear water. Peace and quiet are guaranteed. It will be of interest to tourists who like a relaxing holiday surrounded by beautiful nature. Perfect for families with small children, but teenagers will find it a bit boring.

In conclusion about mainland resorts, I want to say that if you are going for a beach holiday and do not set a goal to visit certain attractions located only there, then it is better to choose other resorts in Greece. In my opinion, the beaches on the islands are better, there are more coves, the sea is more beautiful, and interesting historical places no less than on the mainland, although there are always exceptions.

Peninsulas

Halkidiki

Halkidiki is one of my favorite places in Greece. Very green, with many small beautiful coves. In some places, rocks intricately hang over emerald clear water, creating natural grottoes. There are very few people, most of the peninsula is magnificent, wild, untouched nature.

There are also some disadvantages. There are few attractions here. And those that exist are located quite far away. If you don’t plan, then you need to choose housing in towns where there is the necessary infrastructure, or take a tour to. Because in small villages it is difficult to find a good store or ATM.

This place is simply meant for a beach holiday. Here you can find quiet and uncrowded resorts or even rent a house on the beach far from everyone. Gorgeous nature and magnificent beaches will not leave any tourist indifferent.

Peloponnese

Peloponnese – enough popular place, but more for active recreation, there are many ancient attractions. Sparta, which in those distant times became famous for its opposition to Athens, is located here. As a rule, tourists come here specifically to visit certain historical places.

As in all of Greece - excellent beaches and beautiful nature. The downside is that it is difficult to get here. In the summer, Aeroflot sometimes flies, but there is no constant connection with Russia. You can fly through other cities in Greece, but this lengthens the journey and makes the transfer difficult.

Islands

Crete

Crete is the most big Island Greece and one of best places for relax. Here you can find everything a tourist needs. The unusual mountain landscape and magnificent sandy beaches, especially in the north of the island, will not leave anyone indifferent.

Suitable for relaxation for literally everyone, it’s not difficult to find something to your liking, a lot interesting places, a huge selection of accommodation for every budget.

The island is comfortable for families with children, it has soft sand and a gentle entrance to the water. Read more about best beaches Read Corfu.

Kos

Kos is a chic and expensive resort for the elite, it is not without reason that Hollywood stars choose it for their holidays. The island is small, located in the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea. There is a lot of greenery here, the nature is very beautiful.

Prices are high, so you probably won’t be able to relax on a budget. You can see the cost here.

Zakynthos

Zakynthos – amazing beautiful island, which you want to return to. Two rows of mountain ranges protect the valley from bad weather. Lush vegetation, steep cliffs, picturesque bays with golden sand closed from the sea - a real paradise for tourists.

Unfortunately, people rarely land on the island; you can only get here local airlines or by ferry.

Santorini

Santorini is a small island of volcanic origin, with coastline 70 km. The white houses of local residents are laconically integrated into the mountain landscape. It has its own, kind of aristocratic, cozy atmosphere. Life flows slowly, time seems to stop.

If you go a little away from the tourist trail, you can find wild places and enjoy solitude. The beaches of the island are very diverse, even the sand in each place has its own shade, from soft yellow to bright red.

Holidays on the island are expensive. As a rule, tourists come here for one day as part of excursion groups.

Look for information on the island of Santorini.

conclusions

There are many resorts in Greece and it is really difficult to choose. Beautiful nature and gorgeous beaches can be found in almost every corner of this sunny country. So where is the best place to relax in Greece? How many people, so many opinions. Where one person likes it, it won’t necessarily be good for another.

If you, dear readers, are interested in my opinion, then now I would act in the following sequence:

  1. Reading general information about the country and the main resorts
  2. We look at prices for tours or accommodation and air tickets (you may come across cheap tickets and it will be more profitable to travel on your own)
  3. Based on the second point, we decide how to relax, through a tour operator or on your own. I wrote how to make the right decision
  4. Most likely, for my first acquaintance with the country, I would choose one of the islands, focusing on price-nature-quality-easy transfer (in that order). You may have other priorities
  5. Having decided on the island, read detailed information about the resorts of this place, based on fresh reviews on the Internet
  6. Next, choose accommodation, hotel or house (if not a tour)
  7. Now buy a tour or tickets (if you are traveling on your own)

This plan is not suitable only for those who purposefully go to see certain attractions. It’s easier for such tourists; they just need to choose a resort closer to their desired places to visit.

That's all I wanted to talk about, I hope you have a general picture about the resorts of Greece.

You can soon learn about my personal impressions from the stories in the “My Travels” section. In the meantime, I suggest you read the article. It seems to me that this is a relevant question. Subscribe to my newsletter and be the first to receive new publications.

Recently, in some minor magazine, I came across a note that this country will also soon be closed to Russians. Allegedly, they will make a couple of provocations for this purpose. Haven't you heard anything? It will be a great pity. Write in the comments what you think about this. Very interesting read.

And I’ll say goodbye to you for a moment. Share the article on in social networks, convenient buttons are located below.
