One of the fastest growing mountain resorts Ukraine is located in the village of Plavye, Lviv region. Plai Resort Lately began to expand and improve at a rapid pace, which attracted tourists here. The elevation difference at the resort is about 400 meters (the village itself is located at an altitude of 600 meters, and the upper lift stations are at an altitude of 1060 meters). The upper segment is steeper and features high-level pistes. At the bottom there are slopes for beginners - there are gentle slopes.

The plans for the Plai ski resort are very ambitious. The creators want to build a resort that could successfully compete with the famous Bukovel, and also function all year round. Among other innovations, it is planned to create a museum, an indoor swimming pool, a bowling alley, a SPA center, horse riding, cycling and walking routes. In addition, the organizers are going to keep prices at the current level (which is several times less than in more popular complexes).

The main routes of the Plai resort

The Plai ski resort currently has only 6 main equipped slopes. However, their level is quite high, which allows the GC to compete with its neighbors.

Basic indicators:

All routes are treated with snow groomers, which compact the snow cover to a smooth road. There are also snow cannons here, allowing you to ski even after the snowy season.

Total for ski resort Play has 2 lifts. Their type is chairlift, the number of seats in the cabin is 4. The total length of each lift is 1 kilometer. In addition to standard lifts, there is 1 drag-type multi-elevator with a length of 350 meters and 1 baby elevator with a length of 350 meters.

The cost of lifts is:

The convenience of the Plai ski resort is that all the hotels are located very close to the mountain slope. A vacation in 2018-2019 will cost visitors 600 hryvnia per hotel room. In private cottages prices are lower - from 350 hryvnia. In nearby villages, prices are even lower (from 250 hryvnia for a hotel room).

How to get there

The complex is located next to the Kyiv-Chop highway. The nearest village is the village of Plavye (directly next to the complex). By train you can get to railway stations Skole or Volovets. From there you will need to take a bus or minibus directly to the village of Plavye. If you drive your own car, the route will look like this: Skole – Kozeva – Orjava – Plaje.

Near the village of “Plavye” in the Lviv region in Ukraine there is a ski resort called Play.

The resort has been operating since 2007 and is making improvements and developing from year to year.

Now Play is acquiring clear features of a powerful modern facility. The resort already has a second name - “little Bukovel”, which indicates its similarity with a popular recreation center.

Average temperatures and ski season

In the resort area, air temperatures in winter are quite mild - not lower than 15°C, which is due to the low location in the Carpathians.

The trails run along the slopes of the Kremin and Play mountains, the upper areas of which are steeper than the lower ones.

Trails.

The Playa trails are designed and certified in accordance with modern standards.

There are trails for training (mainly in the lower regions of the mountain ranges) and more complex and extreme ones. The latter are located on the steep tops of the slopes.

To maintain a good and safe ski surface, the resort regularly operates snowcats. If there is not enough snow, snow cannons are launched.

The snowpark is equipped with a sufficient number of structures for extreme snowboarders, the quality of which is supervised and maintained regularly.

Lifts.

Among the 4 lifts there is a 350-meter baby lift, a multi-lift (also 350 m) and 2 chairlifts cable cars 1 km long.

The lifts operate from 9 am to 5 pm. There are queues during peak times ski season, but they are not long-term - up to 5 minutes.

Ski school.

At the resort you can receive instructions from professional instructors. Classes are conducted in groups or individually.

The masters teach both “from scratch” - children and adults - and guests who already have experience in skating.

In Playa, skiers and snowboarders train and improve their skills.

Entertainment and Après-ski

Play offers tourists a wide variety of options for entertainment, recreation, both active and cultural.

An establishment with a forge, a weaving shop, mills (water and wind) and a cheese factory, where you can taste delicious cheese according to ancient recipes of Carpathian cooks.

Also here, a tourist can look at elements of Hutsul culture in the ethnographic museum.

“Carpathian City” is located next to the ancient Church of the Archangel Michael (1888), which is also a landmark of Playa.

2. Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, erected in the village of Plavye.

3. On the way to the neighboring resorts of Podobovets and Pylypets, don’t miss the beautiful natural object“Shipot” is a waterfall 47 km from Playa. There are only 3 km between the waterfall and the neighboring resorts.

1. “At the Owner’s” is an eco-friendly restaurant. Here the chefs cook exclusively from the purest, natural products from Carpathian farms. Dishes from “The Owner’s” are the personification of homely, cozy cuisine and warmth.
2. Luxury restaurant with exquisite style and name – “Carpathian Rose”. Both Hutsul and foreign cuisine are popular here.
3. In the center of Playa there are “Polonina” and “Verkhovyna” - restaurants with dishes of various cuisines and a design close to nature.
4. “On the Slope” is a bistro located 25 meters from the upper lift station. The cuisine here suits every taste, and the panoramas from the terrace are mesmerizingly picturesque.

The average cost of a room for 2 residents is about 600 hryvnia. Since the number of accommodation options in Playa is still small, we recommend booking a room in advance if possible.

Note: some tourists, due to lack of room in the resort hotels, rented an apartment from local residents. This placement option is not uncommon.

It is not necessary to settle directly in Playa. There are similar resorts in the surrounding area where you can quickly find a free room. So, near the resort you can stay in:

All ski kits include skis with bindings, poles and boots.

Snowboard kits consist of a snowboard, boots and bindings. There are similar sets for children.

Snowboarding and skiing lessons are provided individually or in a group. Individual training with an instructor will cost 250 UAH per hour, and training in a group will cost 200 UAH per hour.

Play is located 200 meters from the Kyiv-Chop highway.

• If you go by train, you need to get off at the “Volovets” or “Skole” stations. And then - minibus to Playa.
• You can fly to Lviv by plane, from where tourists get to Playa by charter bus. He drives until the turn to the village of Plavye. From Lviv to Playa it is about 140 km.
• By highways It’s easy to get to the resort on your own by car. The most convenient and fastest route is from Lviv through the town of Skole, then turning to the village of “Kozeva” with the resort “Tysovets”, drive through the village. “Oryava”, and then there is a turn to Plavye, where the resort is located.

The international route Kyiv - Chop runs next to the Play Group of Companies, so getting there by car is very easy. From Skole to Playa it takes about 20 minutes.

• by train

get to Skole by any train that goes to Uzhgorod. A taxi from Skole to Play Group costs 250 UAH.

• from Lviv

You can get to Lviv and transfer to a minibus that goes to Transcarpathia along the Kyiv-Chop highway. Travel by minibus from Lviv will cost about 100 UAH.

• You can also get there by any regular bus, which goes along the Kyiv-Chop highway.

• Play Motel

Located right next to the Kyiv - Chop highway. The journey to the ski lift will take about 7-10 minutes. You need to cross the road and climb up the slope to the territory of the complex.

The motel is not bad, the room has everything you need, but walking about 100 meters up the slope every day is not very convenient.

The room rate includes breakfast in the restaurant, which is located on the ground floor of the motel. For breakfast they serve tea or kozhe (brewed coffee is simply poured with boiling water), bread, butter and cheese. You can also choose to order fried eggs made from 2 eggs with lard or pancakes with cottage cheese, served with sour cream and jam. Eating the same thing for 3-4 days quickly gets boring.

Cost of a standard double room: 800 -1300 UAH depending on the season

• Hotel "Play"

The hotel is practically no different from a motel, but is located on the territory of the complex. There are sports and spa complexes nearby, and it’s a 3-5 minute walk to the ski lift.

Rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors have a balcony, and on the 3rd floor there are attic rooms, which are cheaper. The rooms have mini perfumes and a hairdryer. There is free wi-fi in all rooms, but it works terribly.

The price includes breakfast, which is served in the Verkhovyna restaurant. The restaurant is located directly opposite the hotel.

Breakfast includes tea or coffee (from a coffee machine), bread, butter and cheese. They offer a choice of oatmeal, hot omelette or scrambled eggs (with cheese, vegetables or bacon), sausages, and for dessert - pancakes with cottage cheese or poppy seeds (but they almost never have the latter in stock).

Cost of living in a standard room: 900 -1650 UAH depending on the season

• Hotel "Poruch"

​The hotel appeared only this year and is located right next to the lower lift station. The hotel is located in the same building as the cafe-bistro, but on the second floor.

Cost of living in a double room: 600 - 800 UAH

• Hotel "Karpatska Ruzha"

A large 6-storey luxury hotel, which is located on the territory of the complex. The hotel has only 2 or 3 room rooms and there is even a room for people with disabilities.

The hotel has its own SPA center, gym, ski storage and drying room. The rooms have a bathrobe, slippers, a set of hotel perfumes and a minibar. Floors in rooms are heated.

Cost of living in a 2-room room: 2400 - 4400 UAH depending on the season.

○● Equipment rental and service ○●

On the territory of the complex there is a rental of skis, snowboards and other equipment. You can also rent a storage room there for an additional fee (large cell - 30 UAH, small cell - 20 UAH).

The ski kit includes skis, bindings, boots and poles. All sets are divided into 3 categories: A, B, C, depending on the condition and, accordingly, the price of the set.

The skis, of course, have already seen life and are shabby. While you are learning to ride, you don’t notice much of a difference, but then I took set B.

Sets B and A come with Fisher skis in good condition and with a sharp edge. I advise you not to save money and take set B right away.

There is a ski school on site, where instructors will teach you how to ski or snowboard. Training is carried out individually, in small groups (2-3 people) and large groups (5-8 people).

I advise you not to take group training, because it is much more effective to study individually for 1 hour with an instructor.

○● Lifts, map of slopes and routes ○●

The Play ski resort has blue, red and black slopes, served by 1 rope tow and 2 lifts. On weekdays, one lift and ski lift are open, and on weekends, the second lift is also open. Usually there were no queues for the lift on weekdays, but this year I had to stand in line for about 3 minutes.

Everyone mostly rides on the wide central track. The track on the far right is very narrow, making it good for downhill skiing. The trails are open until 17.00. After the track is closed, the slopes are prepared for the next day using retractors. If there is not enough snow, then artificial snow is used on the slopes.

At the top of the mountain is real winter's tale and the view is amazing.

Cafe-bistro "On the Slope"

Cafe-bistro with self-serve system. Food is sold by weight and all prices are per 100g. The prices are not the cheapest... a plate of borscht of 250 grams will cost 45 UAH, 100 grams of French fries - 18 UAH, meat - about 35 UAH per 100 grams. Espresso at the bar is 22 UAH, and a cup of mulled wine is 28 UAH.

We usually have chinakh for lunch - a pot of meat, potatoes and vegetables (similar to roast) for 50 UAH (about 300 UAH).

Restaurant "Verkhovyna"

located on the territory of the complex near the Play hotel. The prices are almost exactly the same as in the bistro cafe, but the range of dishes is varied. The only drawback is that ski boots are not allowed there, so in between climbs there is only a bistro cafe....

There is also a cafe on the territory of the Karpatska Ruzha hotel and an eco-restaurant “U Gospodarya”.

○● Entertainment ○●

• On the territory of the Play Group of Companies there are sports and spa centers, bowling, billiards and discos. There is a fun games room for children.

Of all the entertainment, we liked the big and modern one the most. SPA center "Shafran".

On 3 floors of the spa center there are swimming pools, jacuzzi, saunas, spa rooms and a bar.

A large entertainment pool 20 meters long (5 Jacuzzis around the perimeter), a children's pool with a slide and a two-lane sports pool 25 meters long.

There are several types of saunas in the basement:

• roman sauna
• Finnish sauna
• Russian bath
• cedar bio-sauna
• infrared sauna
• salt room
• ice room

There is also a large relaxation room where you can lie on sun loungers and listen to relaxing music.

The SPA center has spacious changing rooms with everything you need. There are free safes for storing valuables, hair dryers, and towels are provided. The locker room and showers are clean.

You only need to take a change of shoes with you, but if you don’t have any, you can buy flip-flops or a swimsuit in the store located in the lobby. By the way, the prices are quite reasonable.

Prices: a subscription to the pool from 15.00-21.00 costs 200 UAH, and a subscription to the sauna - 250 UAH. But on weekdays there are not many people, so for several years in a row a sauna + swimming pool subscription from 15.00-21.00 costs only 250 grams. The only drawback of such an economy subscription is that not all saunas are operational. When we visited this year, there were Roman and cedar saunas, a Russian bathhouse and an ice room.

Conclusion:

I can confidently recommend the ski resort "Plai". It will especially appeal to beginners who don’t know how to ride yet. Also "Play" is perfect for family vacation with small children, because there is a separate skating area and playroom for them. What I like about Playa is that it is a large complex with its own developed infrastructure, where everything is concentrated in one place, there is entertainment, cafes and restaurants.

Slavskoe

The ski slopes of the Slavskoye ski resort are located on 4 mountains: Trostyan, Pogar, Menchil and Vysoky Verkh.

There are 11 trails on Mount Trostyan total length 22 km. Mount Pogar is a place for lovers of extreme skiing. There is a certified track for slalom competitions, as well as tracks for freestyle, hang gliding, and giant slalom. There are 4 slopes for beginners on Mount Menchil, and on Mount Vysokyi Verkh there is a ski area with ski fields.

Bukovel

Bukovel is located at an altitude of 850-1372 meters above sea level near the village of Polyanytsya. Its ski slopes stretch for a total of 51 kilometers (three roads - Dovga, Bukovel and Chernaya Kleva). These are mostly trails of medium difficulty, but there are also black ones for pros and blue ones for beginners.

Accommodation prices during the holiday season ( New Year and Christmas): from 6,200 UAH for 4 days, double room.

Subscription prices: last year you would have paid 396 UAH for 1 day during the holiday season. Prices for this year have not yet been announced.

Dragobrat is the highest ski resort in Ukraine (1300-1700 m above sea level). The elevation difference on its route is about 500 m. In addition to ski slopes (1 blue, 3 black and 5 red), there are special jumps for international-class freestyle skiing.

Vodyaniki

This artificial ski resort, located in the Cherkasy region, was created by Austrian, Russian and Ukrainian architects. The length of the ski slopes is 2,000 km; for snowboarders there is a park with three lines of jumps and a half-pipe.

Protasov Yar

Protasov Yar is located almost in the center of the capital of Ukraine. The ski complex has 4 trails for skiers and snowboarders of different difficulty levels: 275 m with a vertical drop of 60 m (for beginners), a combined track about 500 m long with a vertical drop of 60-80 m, 320 m with a vertical drop of 80 m (certified by the International federation skiing FIS) and a training track 150 m long.

Verkhovyna

The Verkhovyna ski resort is located on the banks of the Black Cheremosh River. It’s not worth coming here specifically for skiing, since there is only one slope in the village, and even that one is for beginners. But this is an ideal option for beginners.
