Cornish Beach, (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) - location, description, opening hours, entertainment and infrastructure. Useful tips and practical information from the "Subtleties of Tourism".

 • New Year Tours in the UAE
 • Hot tours in the UAE

To escape from the bustle of the capital, you do not even need to leave the city. Cornish Beach is located in the southwestern part of Abu Dhabi, 2.5 km from Hilton Abu Dhabi Hotel to Al Khalidzh Al Arabi Street (this is where the main entrance is).

Perfectly clean (as confirmed by the Blue Flag), a wide, with excellent infrastructure beach offers all the conditions for those who want to just lie on the soft sand on their own towel, and for fans of luxurious relaxation - there are several clubs at their disposal. And Cornish is very suitable for swimming enthusiasts. The buoys are located at a distance of 40 m from the coast, the sea is always calm due to the opposite islands of Al Lulu and Al Marina, a large number of rescuers work.

Infrastructure

The beach is divided into three zones: free, "family" and "single" - with the same functions as the "family", only more quiet. Free is the most popular. Despite the status, everything is in order with the service: there are showers, changing rooms, 300 meters from the entrance there is a large parking lot for 1100 cars, and in the vicinity there are many cafes and restaurants. In the western part of the public beach (the one closer to the parking lot and the Nation Galleria shopping center) there are football and volleyball courts.

The main difference between paid areas is the ability to rent a sunbed and towel, the availability of shops with useful accessories (clothing, sunscreen, drinks) and a large number of cafes and restaurants - right on the beaches.

The sea along the entire Cornish beach is exactly the same: quite shallow with white sand and minimal excitement.

Practical information

You can get into the free sector through the entrance at the intersection of Kornich Road and 6th Street, in the "single" - on the corner of Kornich Road and Khalidiya Street, in the "family" - at the intersection of Kornich Road and Al Khalidzh Al Arabi Street . Website in English

The working hours of the free public area of the Cornish Beach: daily, around the clock. Paid areas - 8: 00-22: 00. Entrance to the “family” and “single” units is 10 AED, children from 5 to 12 years old - 5 AED, children under 5 years old are free. Sunbed rental: 25 AED, a towel can be borrowed for 10 AED per day. Prices on the page are for October 2018.

Corniche beach, located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, is a fairly famous attraction. About 50 thousand tourists come here annually. It is not surprising, because here are the most beautiful beaches of the country, clear water and a whole sea of entertainment.

Well, now about everything in more detail.

What does the word Cornish mean?

In a number of languages, this word is used to denote a road that first rises up a mountain, and then descends from it. It is of French origin, “route a corniche”, which can be translated as “road on a ledge”.

There are quite a few Cornish around the world, several of which are located in the United Arab Emirates: these are Buheira Corniche in Sharjah, Deira Corniche and Jumeirah Corniche in Dubai.

In this article, we will tell you about the Cornish, which is located in Abu Dhabi.

It is funny that not one of the listed Cornish is on the side of a mountain or a hill. Perhaps the Arabs just like the word itself!

To get there, you need to go to the northwestern part of the city. The place between the Hilton Abu Dhabi hotel and the Old Fish Market will be the root of it.

If you are in the emirate itself, you can take a bus for 2 dirhams. Several flights run right along the promenade.

If flights 007, 009, 011 and 032 pass by your hotel, you can use them to get to the island of Al Marina, and from there walk to the beach in 20 minutes.

Can be reached by. The fare will depend on how far your hotel is from Cornish.

If you have your own car, use it - there is parking near the beach. You will pay 10 dirhams per day.

Excursions to the Corniche

Many excursions in Abu Dhabi are designed in such a way as to pass along this promenade, but this is not the best option, because the buses do not stop there. And when you see the azure waves of the beach, you probably want to plunge, as well as visit local entertainment, so it’s better to get there yourself.

Schedule

The beach begins to receive guests from 7 in the morning. You can swim until sunset. Many restaurants on the coast are open until 4 in the morning, or even around the clock.

Paid parts of the beach accept guests until 10 pm.

A bit of history

Many years ago, even when the country lived thanks to the export of pearls, its producers lived here.

Later, when oil began to be extracted in the country, thanks to the stunning views, this part of the city was allocated for the construction of expensive hotels for businessmen and rich people who came from other countries. Then the embankment was still not in sight.

In 2002, it was decided to build the same promenade. Two companies got down to business: the Canadian LANDinc and Parsons International. I had to bring about 50 hectares of land, build a road and plant trees. It is hard to believe that such a vast territory was artificially created by human hands!

In 2011, Cornish Abu Dhabi received the Blue Flag - an international award given to beaches for the cleanest and most environmentally friendly water - and still holds it.

The beach is divided into 5 areas:

The first - - is intended for families with children. Single men are not allowed there. For greater convenience of vacationers, the territory is fenced. Admission is paid: adults pay 10 dirhams, children under the age of 12 years pay 5 dirhams.

West plaza area - Suitable for absolutely everyone, free admission.

Al sahil beach - Also suitable for everyone, although paid. The price of the issue is 10 dirhams for an adult and 5 dirhams for a child under 12 years old.

East plaza beach - Another free beach, suitable for everyone, like Western Extention Beach.

BAKE company monitors the order on the beach, they charge entrance fees to paid beaches, rent towels, umbrellas and sunbeds for 10, 25 and 25 dirhams, respectively. However, if you have your own towel, you can spread it out and sit right on it, no one will forbid you from doing this.

On the beach there are a large number of sunbeds, there are places for changing clothes and taking a shower. You do not need to pay for visiting the latter.

Also, if necessary, you can look into one of the nearby shops and buy yourself additional beach accessories.

The depth here is not very large, just over one and a half meters. A few tens of meters from the coast is a line marked by buoys - it must not be crossed.

There are always lifeguards on land.

On the beach you can see many well-groomed flowerbeds, trimmed lawns and palm trees. You can buy a soft drink and relax in the shade.

Lovers of comfort

If you don't feel like hustling in a public place, two local clubs will provide you with their services. One of them is the club Nation Riviera, located in the hotel St Regis Abu Dhabi, has its own fenced beach, swimming pool, fitness room and restaurant. One person will pay $ 54 for a one-day visit, and $ 81 will be taken from two.

The second, the Hiltonia Beach Club, also has its own private beach. Entrance costs 200 dirhams on weekdays and 290 on weekends. After 15:00, couples can buy a ticket for only 140 dirhams.

Entertainment on the waterfront

One way to get around the beach is by bike. A rental point is located in its western part, not far from the Hiltonia Beach Club. Here you can find both mountain and city models, however, rental is quite expensive: adults pay 30 dirhams, children - 20. Thus, it is more convenient to use a taxi.

We recommend to visit Family Water Park - A great place to relax with the whole family. You will not find water slides as such, but there are fountains under which you can run and just walk - believe me, your children will appreciate it!

On the lawns are allowed to sit on a picnic, but the fire can not be planted.

Nearby there is a special open area where various events are held, including competitions for children, broadcast on the big screen important events, as was the case during the Formula 1 Grand Prix. As a rule, all events are free.

It is interesting that this embankment is used for military marches: here you can find an amazing variety of military equipment, including guns from Russia, France and Ukraine, admire the military units, and cavalry on horseback and camels.

They are still included in the army, but practically do not participate in hostilities.

At the end of March, you can get to the so-called “Mother of the Nation” festival, organized by Her Majesty Shahine Fatima Bint Mubarak. Children will especially like the event: you can jump from a bungee, participate in competitions and master classes, visit attractions and swim in the pool. Entrance to the event must be paid.

Admire the skyscrapers

Not far from the embankment there are skyscrapers that have become the hallmark of the United Arab Emirates. Among them we can name ADNOC - a large oil production company is located here. The height of the building reaches 342 meters, and it looks very impressive: black glass walls framed by white frames.

The second skyscraper - Etihad Tower - on one of its upper floors is an observation platform "Observation Deck at 300".

Opening hours: from 10:00 to 18:00. Ticket price - 75 dirhams.

On the Corniche embankment there are two more interesting skyscrapers with a height of more than 250 meters. At a height of 202.5 meters there is a bridge connecting them to each other. In one of the towers there is a hotel with its own cinema, spa and fitness center. A night in such luxury costs 25 thousand dollars. Book a room through regular sites will not work.

Where to go to eat

On the promenade you can find a huge number of restaurants and cafes, the cuisine is mainly Italian, Japanese and, of course, Arabic. There, nearby, you can find an ordinary McDonalds and even an ordinary supermarket.

 1. Not far from the Corniche promenade, there is another local attraction - Al Marina Island: there is a big ferris wheel, a shopping center, a giant flagpole with the country's flag and many more interesting places that are worth visiting, given that you can get there in 15 minutes.
 2. It is better to worry about comfortable shoes and clothes in advance, because you will have to walk a lot.
 3. Not far from the promenade is another attraction - the Emirates Palace Hotel, if you have such an opportunity, be sure to check it out.
 4. Many cafes and restaurants accept only Arab dirhams, so it is better to change the currency in advance.

Have a nice walk along the promenade, and see you soon!

On the northwest side of the main island, which faces the open Persian Gulf, there is an 8 km long promenade. In the northern part of this promenade, which is called Cornish, is a densely built-up area, often considered the center of the city of Abu Dhabi.
In general, the word "Cornish" in the UAE refers to the coast, cliffs and coastal roads, so do not think that this name is somehow unique. In most Arab countries, the embankment along the river, harbor or coast of the sea bears the same name.
The Cornish in Abu Dhabi demonstrates the impressive and pompous side of the city. Here you will find not only cafes, restaurants, shops, playgrounds or parks, but also the tallest buildings and the most elegant hotels in the city. The Corniche Embankment invites pedestrians, cyclists and runners, as well as anyone who wants to have a good time. You can stroll between the trees and palm trees that are located next to the promenade, or just relax and enjoy the sea breeze. At the western end of the promenade is Emirates Palace, one of the best hotels in the world. Here, in an elegant atmosphere, you can enjoy tea or attend an art exhibition.

A breathtaking view of the city skyline complements the pompous Cornish experience. The harbor, as well as the Fish Market and Iranian Market, form the end of the promenade. If the section of the promenade longer than 8 km is too long for running, cycling or rollerblading, then you can take one of the taxis and ask your driver to drive along the Cornish. He will willingly stop in different places where you will find something interesting.

In the cool hours of the day, Cornish, with its parks, shops, hotels, restaurants and an overgrown beach, is Abu Dhabi's most popular boulevard. The promenade on the west coast of Abu Dhabi extends along the city center and has the shape of an arc. Until the 1970s, Cornish was the port of a former fishing village.

With walking paths, parks and the picturesque Cornish Beach, it offers the perfect setting for a relaxing break in Abu Dhabi.
The Marina Mall complex on the Corniche embankment, opened in March 2001, is one of the largest shopping centers in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. The green areas and fountains in the Cornish Park offer some refreshment even on hot summer days.

Cornish Beach

The Corniche beach is also located in the promenade area. The beach stretches from Hilton Hotel to Al Khalej Al Arabi Street. However, you cannot sail far into the Persian Gulf here, since there are floating fences at a distance of 40 meters from the coast. In addition, there are always many lifeguards on the beach who are able to ensure the safety of swimmers. The Cornish Beach in Abu Dhabi has the Blue Flag, an international award that guarantees cleanliness and safe swimming. The whole beach is divided into three areas: a public zone, a family zone and a zone for singles. Access to the public area is always free, while entry fees must be paid to enter other areas.
The water in the Persian Gulf near the Cornish beach is always quite warm, so it does not give the desired cooling, especially in the summer months. But you can swim in the cooler hotel pools.
If you don’t like the hustle and bustle, then we advise you not to come to the Cornish beach on weekends (Friday and Saturday), as many locals spend weekends on this beach.

Sightseeing Corniche Abu Dhabi

A walk along the beautiful beach promenade should be a must if you decide to spend your vacation in Abu Dhabi. It is best to take a walk in the morning or in the evening, because in the afternoon the sun heats the paving stones, and unbearable heat is standing on the promenade. The promenade borders on the one hand with the beach and the sea, and on the other side there are cafes, restaurants, green areas and children's playgrounds. The tallest buildings and the most luxurious hotels in the UAE capital can be found along this beautiful coastal road.
For a small fee, you can rent bicycles here, including long bicycles for three people. This makes it easy to explore the beach promenade, enjoying the gentle sea breezes.

Marina Mall

Marina Mall is one of the largest shopping centers in Abu Dhabi and received the title of Top Shopping Mall 2017 from Forbes Magazine. Countless shops, an observatory, an ice rink, a bowling alley, a multiplex cinema and musical fountains - all this you will find in a shopping complex with an area of 122,000 square meters with four floors.

Emirates Palace Hotel

The pompous Emirates Palace Hotel can also be called a landmark. Considered the most expensive hotel in the world, he argues for the title of the best hotel in the United Arab Emirates with the famous Burj al Arab hotels on Jumeirah Beach and Atlantis Hotel on the world famous island of Palma.
The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi offers its guests stunning apartments, excellent food, an ideal beach, a giant fitness center, a swimming pool and a stunning resort landscape.

Lulu Island

Lulu Island is an artificial island that was built from 1988 to 1992 in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Abu Dhabi. First of all, residential and office buildings on an area of more than 4 square kilometers were to be built on the island. Since 2009, access to the island is possible only by boat. How the island will be used in the future is not yet clear.

Cornish Embankment is located on the northwest coast of the main island of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The 8-kilometer Corniche promenade is one of the main promenade areas in the capital, which has been deservedly popular among guests and residents of Abu Dhabi since its beautification in 2003. Its most unusual feature is the gorgeous views that open around. On the one side of the promenade, the turquoise sea sparkles and attracts the eye of the island, on the other, the skyscrapers of Abu Dhabi stand majestically.

In the hot climate of the United Arab Emirates, the Corniche promenade is replete with greenery and numerous fountains, making it an ideal place for a boardwalk. Palm trees, flowers and shrubs are carefully watered using a special system. There is a separate path for cyclists, and for pedestrians there are benches everywhere where you can relax and enjoy the warm sea. In the morning and afternoon, when it is especially hot under the sun, there are almost no people on the embankment. But in the evening, when the air temperature drops, the territory "comes to life" and is filled with people.

Prices in 2019

Entrance to the embankment is absolutely free for everyone. On the municipal beach, you can sunbathe, walk and swim at any time without any cost. But in addition to the free beach, there are several paid ones for which entrance fees are charged.

 • bike rental of various models and varying degrees of capacity - from 20 dirhams for children and from 30 dirhams for adults,
 • entrance to a paid beach - 10 dirhams (for children from 5 to 12 years old - 5 dirhams, up to 5 years old - free of charge),
 • rent of a chaise lounge - 25 dirhams,
 • towel rental - 10 dirhams.

Cornish Beach

Cornish Beach has several areas open to different visitors - common for single visitors, a quiet family plot and part of the beach for families with children. The shore near the calm sea is covered with white sand, which is regularly cleaned by the relevant city services. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag International Award for cleanliness and safety. Despite the relative safety, buoys are swimming closely 40 meters from the shore, blocking swimmers from riding on water vehicles.

Attractions near the Corniche

On the west side of the beach is one of the most comfortable and expensive hotels in the world - Emirates Palace (Emirates Palace). However, the hotel is often called the palace, because the beauty and chic finishes have made it one of the most beautiful attractions in Abu Dhabi. Among the materials for decoration, real gold, silver, marble and Swarovski crystals were used. Near the palace there is a large park with many entertainments and there is a private beach with white sand. Opposite the hotel are the famous etihad towers (Etihad Towers), consisting of 5 skyscrapers, one of which is located observation deck Observation Deck at 300.

1 from 2

On the other side of the embankment from the sea lies the most beautiful area of Al-Khubeira. Among its buildings should be highlighted aDNOC skyscraper 342 meters high (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), towers Nations towersconnected by an air bridge at an altitude of 202.5 meters. On the other side of Corniche street there are several parks - Al Khubeirah Garden, Family Water Park with fountains, Urban Park, Lake Park.

Beyond the water surface of the sea is clearly visible al marina, which also has several attractions of the capital. One of them - heritage Villagevisiting which you can study the life, crafts and other features of the Arab villages. It is located there marina Mall - One of the largest shopping and entertainment centers in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to numerous shops and cafes, the center has a cinema, ice rink, bowling and other entertainment. Right from the beach you can also see such sights of the island as the Ferris wheel and the huge UAE flag on a giant flagpole. The size of the flag is 40 by 20 meters, and the height of the flagpole, considered the highest in the world, is 123 meters.

Additional services

There is not much entertainment on the embankment itself, which is intended, first of all, for walking. Here you will not meet street musicians and artists. But beautiful views of the sea and the city attract with its beauty. For kids there is a playground, and for adults - sports fields, cafes and restaurants. You can ride your own or rented bike along the specially coated bike path. You can rent a bike at several points present at different points on the waterfront.
