The topic of today's post will be my recent trip along the Nizhny Novgorod-Moscow route and back, which I took on the Swallow train.

Trains "Swallow" and "Strizh" - an excellent alternative to the car, thanks to which from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow can be reached in 3.5 hours without traffic jams and in relative comfort. After weighing the pros and cons of traveling by car and train, I decided to go by train.

You can buy a ticket for Swallow on the Russian Railways website (rzd.ru), having previously registered on it. The convenience of this method is that you can specify the places in the car that you like the most. I bought a ticket about a month before the trip, there was a choice. Car seats are shown in the figure below:

I bought a ticket in 3 cars for seats 113, 114 (we were traveling together) and, as it turned out later, my choice was wise! And for what reasons.

Extreme places are located so that in front of you is the back of an adjacent chair. This allows you to more conveniently sit in a chair and stretch your legs under the chair in front, without disturbing anyone. I drew attention to the passengers sitting in front, they practically rested against each other with their knees. Sitting in this position for 3.5 hours is a pleasure below average.

Seats 113 and 114, 115 and 116 in 3 cars are arranged in such a way that you drive with your back to the front and back and forth (I took a return ticket to these places). But here you will not guess, apparently, for different trains, the cars are turned in different ways. At the opposite end of the car there are the same places, but turned in the opposite direction - 1 and 2, 3 and 4.

Still good places 43, 44 and 85, 86 are the same, but in the middle of the car, luggage racks will be behind. Again, for reasons that no one is sitting "towards" and that no one shoves his knees all the way.

What else needs to be prepared when buying a ticket for the "Swallow"?

  1. The seats are relatively narrow and if you come across a burly neighbor, you will have to win a narrow armrest from him. The shape of the seats is not the most comfortable. Either they are already squeezed, but I constantly crawled down, because of which the lower back was tired.
  2. Where to put the outerwear? There are hooks hanging along the windows on which you can hang it, but this will make the window space even closer. Leaning on your jacket or coat still went wherever you go, but when all the passengers in the compartment hang their outerwear on hooks by the window, it’s just uncomfortable in the row by the window, especially if you don’t like to smell other things smoked :)
  3. Restroom. There are only two of them - in the first and last cars. The queue can reach half an hour! Do not try to save 50 rubles and buy a ticket for folding seats near the toilet! A grumbling and characteristically dancing waiting line will constantly stand near you and a door will slam all the way in front of your nose.
  4. Take something to eat and drink with you. The prices for drinks and snacks on the train are just horseback. A cup of coffee 3 in 1 costs about 100 rubles. A sandwich will cost as much.
  5. When the train moves, a creak is heard from wheeled trolleys while the car is rolling, vaguely resembling the barking of sled dogs from the tundra. They say this is a design feature of the train and there's nothing to be done about it. Someone is freaking out. Below is a video where you can hear this creak. The shooting was carried out on a mobile phone, the sound is not very high quality (squeak to listen from 18 seconds :). The player and headphones are an excellent remedy for the creak of wheeled carts :)

Desiro RUS high-speed electric train “Lastochka” is a development of the German company Siemens AG. It consists of 5 cars, and the total length is 130 meters. The maximum speed of this electric train is 160 km / h, and it can work at a temperature of +40 to -40 degrees Celsius.

  1. With folding seats - 30.
  2. For disabled people (passengers with limited activity) - 4.
  3. For ordinary passengers - 409.

The train in question, if necessary, can be used in dual mode - 10 cars (5 + 5). The composition of the electric train structurally includes 3 non-motor and 2 motor cars. It should be noted that the use of a train other than 5 or 10 wagons is not provided.

To date, the "Swallow" trains run on the following routes:

The considered electric train runs in two variations: "Standard" and "Premium".

On the routes "Rostov - Krasnodar", "St. Petersburg - Petrozavodsk", "Moscow - Kursk" an electric train runs Swallow "Premium".

On the routes "St. Petersburg - Veliky Novgorod", "St. Petersburg - Bologoe", "Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod" runs an electric train Swallow "Standard".

It should be noted that the "Swallow" can be doubled if necessary, due to which the number of cars increases to 10.

By its design, the electric train includes 3 non-motor and 2 motor trailed cars. It is not intended to operate this electric train in a composition different from 5 or 10 wagons.

Features of the “Swallow” train running in the direction St. Petersburg - Bologoe / Veliky Novgorod

If the train leaves from St. Petersburg, then the numbering of the cars starts from the head of the train. Cars 1 and 5 from the station Chudovo-Moskovskoe (head) leave for Bologoye, and to Novgorod - tail (6-10).

If the train follows to St. Petersburg, then in Bologovoye the numbering of cars starts from the tail of the train, and in Novgorod - from the head. Trains 1-5 follow from Bologna, and 6-10 from Novgorod. On the Chudovo - St. Petersburg section, the number 10 will be on the head carriage, and 1 on the tail. Thus, the Novgorod part will be located in the head of the train.

History

12/29/2014 Russian Railways signed an agreement with Siemens for the supply of 54 Siemens Desiro Rus compounds, the cost of each train at that time was 410 million euros. It was planned that these compositions will be used during the 2014 Winter Olympics. The first 38 compositions will be made in Germany, and the remaining 16 will later be made in the Russian Federation.

On January 23, 2013, the Lastochka electric train made its first trip along the Moscow - St. Petersburg route. Later, these same trains were actively used as aeroexpresses during the Universiade 2013 in Kazan, as well as in Sochi at the Olympic Games (Sochi-Airport, Olympic Park, Krasnaya Polyana).

December 15, 2014 it became known that in the Sverdlovsk region was launched serial production of trains of the "Swallow" type. This convenient and comfortable mode of transport - allows you to make a quick and comfortable trip.

The high-speed electric train "Swallow" (Desiro RUS) was developed by the German company Siemens AG.

It consists of 5 cars, the total length of the entire train reaches 130 m. The electric train can reach speeds of up to 160 km / h. If necessary, for the transportation of passengers during peak demand days, the Swallow (Desiro RUS) can be operated in a double train (5 + 5 cars).

  "Swallow" is designed for suburban passenger traffic on the railways of the Russian Federation, equipped with high and low platforms.

In developing the numbering scheme, the following factors were taken into account:

When departing from St. Petersburg, the numbering of cars starts from the head of the train. From Chudovo-Moskovsky station, wagons from No. 1 to No. 5 (head) will go to Bologoye, cars from No. 6 to No. 10 (tail) will go to Novgorod.

When moving to St. Petersburg, the numbering of cars begins: from Bologoe from the tail of the train, from Novgorod from the head of the train (in Chudovo, the Novgorod part of the train changes direction). Cars from No. 1 to No. 5 will follow from Bologoe, and from Novgorod from No. 6 to No. 10. On the Chudovo - St. Petersburg section, the head car will have No. 10, the tail - No. 1, i.e. the Novgorod part will be in the head of the train.

When departing from Moscow, the numbering of cars starts from the head of the train.

Attention! At all stations, except the final ones (St. Petersburg, Bologoe, Veliky Novgorod, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod), boarding the trains is carried out only through wagons Nos. 2,4,7,9.

Since October 2014 they began to run trains "Swallow" high comfort (class "premium" (1C)).

In the new trains "Swallow" two classes of service,   the number of toilets in head cars has been increased (four per train), tables are provided, comfortable seats with headrests and armrests with adjustment are designed for inter-regional transportation. Each pair of seats in the passenger compartment has a 220 volt outlet, in the high-comfort cabin, 220 volt sockets are installed in each seat. In the fifth and tenth wagons of the train, seats No. 25.26 are intended for wheelchair users. The layout has changed, there are more seats looking at the back of the head. Those seats that are opposite are separated by a table with folding worktops. Under each chair there is a lever, lifting which you can slightly push the seat forward. Each carriage has a cooler for cold and hot water. The first business-class carriage is equipped with a dressing room and leather seats.The train runs a cart with tea / coffee / snackskamy.

The single train of the Swallow train of the premium class has 5 cars: car No. 1 - the first class of service (1C), cars No. 2,3,4,5 - the second class of service (2C). Cars No. 1 and No. 5 are equipped with toilets (two toilets each).

The double train consists of 10 cars: cars No. 1 and No. 6 - the first class of service (1C), cars No. 5 and No. 10 and cars from the second to the ninth - the second class of service (2C). Cars No. 1,5,6,10 are equipped with toilets (two toilets each).

Small Pet Carriage

On the Swallow trains small pets are transported in special places for passengers with animals. No more than one place for one issued travel document and no more than two small domestic (indoor) animals or two birds for this place in boxes, cages, containers, the size of which in the sum of three dimensions does not exceed 180 cm.

For the transportation of small pets, dogs and birds in high-speed trains "Lastochka" of the formation of the Directorate of high-speed communication, a fee of 150 rubles is charged - a mandatory fee included in the price of the travel document. The fee is fixed.

Disabled dogs can be transported in cars of all types. No transportation fees will be charged and shipping documents will not be issued. The guide dog must have a collar and a muzzle and be at the feet of the passenger it accompanies.

I promised to talk about the electron that delivered me to this exhibition. And now I am ready to bring to your attention the ES2G high-speed electric train, code-named "Swallow"

First, let’s take a look at what the abbreviation “ES2G” means. “ES2” - this means that the electric train is powered by direct current, and the letter “G” indicates the belonging of the electric train to the urban type.

Production was started on November 11, 2013 at one of the Ural plants “Ural Locomotives”. This model, which drove people to the Innoprom, was manufactured first in 2014, which confirms the number “001” in the name printed on the train’s body. According to manufacturers, it consists of 62% of Russian components, it is also planned to increase this figure to 85%. The production of electric trains takes place in Russia. At the moment, about 5 models have already been produced, and by 2021 it is planned to produce 240 electric trains. It turns out about 35-40 models a year! Like I'm friends with math! 😀

Electric train Swallow is not afraid of the Ural cold and rare high temperatures. It feels confident in the temperature range from -40 to + 40 ° C. And diagnostic systems help significantly increase the time before scheduled technical inspections. A modular-block implementation of all devices and equipment allows you to fix the malfunction as soon as possible by replacing the malfunctioning unit with a working one. The data approach is applied in many areas. For example, in cellular communications, radio relay stations have long been not large equipment halls, but small boxes with several modules! 🙂

The doors of the electric train are just like from science fiction films! Each car has two doors on each side. Their width is about 1.3 meters in height, about two meters, mine will probably have to bend down so as not to hit! 😀 When the doors are closed they merge with the body for better streamlining, and during a stop they slide apart outwards. Thanks to special seals at the edges of the doors, the doors close tightly! When the train starts to move, nothing is really heard from the outside! When the electric train swallow pulled up onto the platform, the doors did not open. I thought that when the time comes they will open, but after waiting 5 minutes I was interested in the green glowing button! Why not click? And lo and behold, the doors opened! It turns out that the doors are specially equipped with these buttons. So that passengers can leave at the station themselves when they want.

This is how the doors look from the inside. While driving, I kept wondering what would happen if I pressed that green button while driving. The developers are not stupid, while driving the button is blocked, so that curious people like me do not accidentally fall out on the go! 😀 To the right of the exit is a stop crane and a trash bin, which is so lacking in ordinary trains! If there was, I think people at least a little less litter. On the left, as I understand it, mechanisms are located to help people with disabilities. When you click on the blue button, most likely a specially trained person comes in who, using this mechanism, helps to get into the car.

Question to the experts! Why is this stopcrane needed if those who break it down for serious reasons are still blamed and fined? More than once I saw someone stole a bag and ran out, or the child remained at the station, and the train started off. The driver’s mat is constantly heard on the speakerphone, and the guards run to beat the unfortunate person ...

Since the developers placed the equipment either on the roof or under the car, visually the interior of the car looks wider and more spacious, which allows the use of the entire area for the convenience of passengers. When facing the car, insulating materials were used, which is noticeably felt by the absence of external noise inside the car. And light colors in the design creates a greater sense of comfort for passengers.

The ceiling is equipped with lamps, loudspeakers, ventilation and a rather interesting digital display with all the necessary information for passengers. The display shows the date, time, temperature overboard of the electric train and, most importantly, speed! I specifically observed how fast we are moving. The swallow can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, but we did not accelerate more than 100 kilometers per hour, apparently this is the maximum permitted speed of the railway track.

There are 67 seats in the head carriage, and about 103 seats in the intermediate ones. As a result, a total of 443 seats are obtained.

The transitions between the cars of the electric train swallows are equipped with double-wing, fire doors. Between the doors, the passage is surrounded by an airtight and flexible ceiling. Glasses allow better viewing of neighboring cars for the presence of familiar personalities, so as not to go alone. In old trains, I had to look out for friends through a small window, and I had to go into the vestibule, but here there is no vestibule! Since there is no vestibule, and the doors are separated from the passenger compartment only by small glass partitions, in winter the temperature is maintained with the help of additional heaters. Also, do not forget that the doors themselves are closed and passengers open them when they need to. To ensure the safety of passengers, in the salons there are video surveillance systems and fire alarms.

The windows are made of shockproof glass, emergency exits are equipped with special hammers for breaking glass. Outside, such windows will be difficult to break. So rural kids-terrorists throwing stones at windows are now definitely not scary!

When I entered the carriage I noticed a strange frame, there was a place for luggage. And behind it are folding seats, as well as a place for disabled people with strollers and mothers with strollers. In principle, it is convenient and well thought out. Take care of everyone!

The seatbacks are equipped with these folding tables. Now you can conveniently place a phone, laptop or iPad in front of you and watch movies on the go! Convenient shelves are located above the chairs where you can remove extra items and mobile hooks on which you can hang your clothes. I also noticed that in some places there are 220v sockets!

As in ordinary trains, there is a toilet in the head cars. For those who have been to those terrible toilets, they will be surprised at how he looks here. So far, everything is clean and civil. The toilet is so wide that it is convenient to use the disabled. There are even special equipment located on the left.

Well, and let me ask you dear readers to get out of such an interesting place without doing it? That's right, nothing! He photographed everything he wanted and sat calmly from Koltsovo himself, looked out the window and at passengers with children. Which rushed about the cars with joyful faces and photographed everything in a circle!

In conclusion, I would like to add that due to the presence of four autonomous electric converters, the Swallow, in the absence of supply voltage from the contact networks, can maintain its autonomy for 1.5 hours for emergency lighting lamps, sound devices, parking signals, automatic door systems, parking brakes and emergency ventilation the wagon. I don’t know about you, but I really liked the Swallow Electric Train. It’s very convenient, but knowing how Russian Railways plans the train schedule and the number of cars in them, I hope Swallow has a happy future. There are four places for the disabled, they are in the head cars. There are dry closets. They are adapted for passengers with disabilities.

Please note that the doors of all cars open only at the end stations. At other stations, you can enter and leave only through the doors in cars No. 2 and No. 3.

You can have a bite to eat in the "Swallow" an hour after planting. Stuarts are transported around the cabin, again - like on an airplane, a cart with tea, coffee for 100 rubles, sandwiches and snacks.

During the trip, you can have fun looking at the temperature overboard and the speed typed by the “Swallow” - they are shown on the scoreboard.

The only thing that the Swallows really lack is Wi-Fi. Especially on the way to Sochi there are places where it is difficult to break into the waves of mobile communication to the rails - mountains, sea. Otherwise, the "Swallows" is perhaps the best that is in the North Caucasus Railway.

Fighting for a place with a power outlet

Which car is the best to take a ticket to and where to sit? Naturally, I want to sit by the window, with a view of the sea, in the direction of travel, and also so that the outlet is nearby. We calculate.

Outlets are built into the luggage racks above the heads of passengers (in the illustration borrowed from Russian Railways, outlets are marked with red rectangles). Just in case - online layout.

Window seats have an odd numbering. Even seats - all the rest: medium, at the aisle, folding.

To sit at the window and look at the sea in the section from Tuapse to Adler, choose, for example, the place number 45 in the second car. The layout of the seats differs only in the head cars, in the rest the seats are located as in No. 2.

True, in terms of choosing a chair there is still an element of chance: sometimes the composition is deployed in the opposite direction - this happens for technical reasons. In this case, the seats, which are usually turned in the direction of the train, turn back. Unfortunately, this cannot be found out in advance. But if you have chosen a place near the outlet, you can’t take it away from you.

Router

At the peak moments of the year - in the summer and in the ski season - “Swallows” only do that they “teleport” tourists from Krasnodar and even Rostov-on-Don on the coast, to Sochi, Adler and vice versa.

However, on their way there are other interesting stations where you can quickly and accurately get off. For example, you can, in the early morning, comfortably drive from Krasnodar to Goryachy Klyuch in an hour, take a walk there all day and return back in the evening. Or in 2.5 hours to get to Tuapse, spend time on the beach and watch the sun go down in the water, and be at Krasnodar again at 22.02. A lot of options.

Regular flights to Rostov-on-Don is also an important thing for students and businessmen, not to mention those who just come to Rostov / Krasnodar for a weekend or for cultural events.

Trains run between Adler and Maykop, which is also extremely convenient for residents of the region. In general, all the important points of the Krasnodar Territory were powerfully connected by the Swallow routes. We look.

On the Swallow high-speed train, ticket sales begin 45 days before departure. You can fly directly at the ticket office, and on suburban trains - just like that.
